  • Frequency resource efficiency is important in satellite communication systems. One of the causes of a waste of frequency resource is bad flatness. In the case, flatness of satellite Tx terminals would be worse by ACI and guard band. In order to overcome this problem, this paper proposes a technique for frequency response equalization in satellite Tx terminals. First of all, a general linear polynomial expression which meets least squares of representative measurement data is calculated to interpolate unmeasured data. And then flatness can be adjusted using the polynomial expression. Simulation results illustrate adjusted data have lower peak to peak and standard deviation than original data, and these show that flatness be improved.

  • This paper presents a RLS based adaptive sliding mode observer (A-SMO) for unknown fault reconstruction in longitudinal autonomous driving. Securing the functional safety of autonomous vehicles from unexpected faults of sensors is essential for avoidance of fatal accidents. Because the magnitude and type of the faults cannot be known exactly, the RLS based A-SMO for unknown acceleration fault reconstruction has been designed with relationship function in this study. It is assumed that longitudinal acceleration of preceding vehicle can be obtained by using the V2V (Vehicle to Vehicle) communication. The kinematic model that represents relative relation between subject and preceding vehicles has been used for fault reconstruction. In order to reconstruct fault signal in acceleration, the magnitude of the injection term has been adjusted by adaptation rule designed based on MIT rule. The proposed A-SMO in this study was developed in Matlab/Simulink environment. Performance evaluation has been conducted using the commercial software (CarMaker) with car-following scenario and evaluation results show that maximum reconstruction error ratios exist within range of ±10%.

  • In this paper, we propose a position measuring system using trilateration based on the illuminance of a light-emitting diode (LED). Three LEDs are located on the ceiling of the virtual space, and each fixed coordinate is inputted to the monitoring program, and Length to the illuminance sensor is drawn through the relational expression of the length and illuminance value from the respective LED. Based on the derived length, the trilateration method is used to find object location information in virtual space. By using the least square equation to minimize the error of the length drawn to trilateration, the error is reduced to the utmost. Unlike the existing indoor positioning system using visible light communication (VLC), the proposed system does not require synchronization between the transmitter and the receiver, so the system can be configured simply.

  • This paper proposes multiple RLS and actuator performance index-based adaptive actuator fault-tolerant control and detection algorithms for longitudinal autonomous driving. The proposed algorithm computes the desired acceleration using feedback law for longitudinal autonomous driving. When actuator fault or performance degradation exists, it is designed that the desired acceleration is adjusted with the calculated feedback gains based on multiple RLS and gradient descent method for fault-tolerant control. In order to define the performance index, the error between the desired and actual accelerations is used. The window-based weighted error standard deviation is computed with the design parameters. Fault level decision algorithm that can represent three fault levels such as normal, warning, emergency levels is proposed in this study. Performance evaluation under various driving scenarios with actuator fault was conducted based on co-simulation of Matlab/Simulink and commercial software (CarMaker).

  • In this paper, we propose a novel sound field reconstruction algorithm using a three dimensional loudspeaker array for providing realistic sound field to multiple listeners. The proposed algorithm is based on minimization of the squared error between the original sound field and the reconstructed sound field by the loudspeaker array over a predefined three dimensional region of the space using a loudspeaker array surrounding the listening area. For evaluating the proposed algorithm, we constructed the three dimensional array composed of 40 loudspeakers and discuss the relevant experiment results.

  • This paper concerns a least square method for pattern optimization of a thinned sensor array in which the squared error between a desired pattern and a synthesized one is minimized. A weighting function is applied in the function with respect to the array visual range for a symmetric and asymmetric configuration for sensor spacing. An exponential weighting function is proposed to control the sidelobes efficiently around the mainbeam and to generate a uniform sidelobe. The resulting pattern may be employed to eliminate incoming interferences distributed uniformly around the array visual range.

  • This paper discusses the test procedure, instrumentation, verification methodology and the results of the ground vibration test(GVT) performed on the KF-16D aircraft to estimate experimentally dynamic characteristics of the aircraft. The modal tests for 7 external store configurations were conducted to estimate effects of external stores on the aircraft vibration modes. To emulate free-free boundary conditions the test aircraft was mounted on its landing gear structure with deflated tires during the GVT. The airframe modal tests were done by burst random excitations with 6 to 8 shakers and about 200 accelerometers. Frequency response functions(FRFs) were measured for each test, and the FRFs were reduced and analyzed to identify the dynamic parameters interested. The analyses were carried out in two steps. To extract modal parameters such as, frequencies and damping ratios, the poly-reference least square complex exponential method was used in the time domain. The mode shape coefficients were estimated with the least squares frequency domain method to identify the vibration modes.

  • Water quality models can be applied to manage the regional water quality problems and to estimate the target and allowable pollution load in watershed effectively. The optimization of state variables in the given water quality model Is necessary to build up more effective model. The least-squares method is applied to fit field observations in QUAL2E developed by U.S. EPA, which is most widely used one in the world to simulate the stream water quality, and the optimization model with constraints is constructed to estimate the parameters. The objective function of the optimization model is solved by Solver in Microsoft Excel and Monte Carlo simulation is conducted to know the influence of parameter in conventional pollutants. It is found that this technique is easily implemented and rapidly convergent computational procedure to calibrate the parameters after appling this approach in Anyang stream located in Kyonggi province mainly.

  • As marine accidents happen frequently, it is required to establish a marine traffic monitoring system, which is designed to improve the safety and efficiency of navigation in VTS (Vessel Traffic Service). For this aim, recently, X-band marine radar is used for extracting the sea surface information and, it is necessary to retrieve wave information correctly and provide for the safe and efficient movement of vessel traffic within the VTS area. In this paper, three different current estimation algorithms including the classical least-squares (LS) fitting, a modified iterative least-square fitting routine and a normalized scalar product of variable current velocities are compared with buoy data and then, the iterative least-square method is modified to estimate wave information by improving the initial current velocity. Through several simulations with radar signals, it is shown that the proposed method is effective in retrieving the wave information compared to the conventional methods.
