Robust Placement Method for IR Drop in Power Gating Design (파워 게이팅 설계에서 IR Drop에 견고한 셀 배치 방법)

  • Power gating is one of effective techniques for reducing leakage current in semiconductor chip. However, power gating cell (PGC) which is used to switch the power source causes performance degradation and the associated reliability problem by increasing IR drop. However, the newly raised problem caused by different scaling properties between gates and metal wires demands additional considerations in power gating design. In this paper, we propose a robust cell placement based power gating design method for reducing the area for power gating cell and metal routing thus to meet IR drop requirement. Experimental results by applying the proposed techniques on the application processor for smartphone fabricated in 28nm CMOS process show that power gating cell area is reduced by 16.16% and maximum IR drop value is also decreased by 8.49% compared to existing power gating cell placement techniques.

  • 최근 PC의 성능이 향상되면서, 고성능의 전원공급 장치가 요구되고 있다. 특히 CPU에 대전력을 공급하는 싱크로너스 벅 컨버터는 파워 MOSFET을 구동하기 위해 별도의 구동 IC가 필요하다. 본 논문은 adaptive 지연을 이용하여 파워 MOSFET을 구동하는 싱크로너스 벅 구동 IC를 설계하였다. 고정밀도의 밴드캡 기준회로와 비교기를 이용하여 30 ns의 adaptive 지연을 생성하며, 전력소모를 줄이기 위해 저전압에서 동작하는 UVLO(under voltage lock out)를 설계하였다. 또한 상단 파워 MOSFET을 구동하기 위하여 부트스트랩 방식을 이용하며, 부트스트랩 다이오드를 IC 내부에 내장하여 컨버터의 설계비용을 줄였다. 설계한 구동 IC의 동작 전압 범위는 8 V - 15 V이며, 출력 전류는 최대 2A이다. 싱크로너스 벅 구동 IC는 $0.5\;{\mu}m$ BiCMOS(Bipolar-CMOS) 공정 파라미터를 사용하여 설계되었으며, 시뮬레이션은 Cadence사의 Spectre를 이용하였다.

Relay Position in Decode-and-Forward Relay Systems to Achieve Full Diversity Gain (최대 다이버시티 이득을 얻기 위한 복호 후 전달 (Decode-and-Forward) 릴레이 시스템의 위치에 관한 연구)

  • Error propagation of source-relay (S-R) link limits the performance of decode-and-forward (DF) relay and prohibits DF relay from achieving full diversity gain. In order to solve this problem, the proposed deployment strategy focuses on two objectives. One is to achieve full diversity gain, and the other is to minimize the used power of the DF relay system. In order to achieve full diversity, the error probability of S-R link should be lower than that of maximal ratio combining (MRC) at destination without error propagation since the error probability of the weaker link dominates the total error probability. The proposed strategy of relay positioning points out the range of the relay position for achieving full diversity, and the used power of the relay is minimized by this range. Analysis of error probability and simulation results prove that the two objectives are achieved by the proposed strategy of the relay position.

The Testbed System for Crisis Management System of the Power Grid Using Satellite Communication Network (위성망을 이용한 파워 그리드 위기관리 시스템의 테스트베드 구현)

  • In this paper, we propose a testbed system for the crisis management system of the power grid(CMS-PG) using satellite communication network. For the verification of CMS-PG, the proposed system composed of the simulator of satellite communication network and the simulator of phase measurement unit. Proposed satellite communication simulator can evaluate the delay and the robustness of the communication according to the rainfall and the humidity of local site. And the proposed simulator can calculates the voltage stability by hardware implementation using FPGA. Using the proposed testbed system, we adapted its function of crisis management system for the conventional power grid.

Ultrasound-Assisted Micellar Extraction for Paclitaxel Purification from Taxus chinensis (Taxus chinensis 유래 파클리탁셀 정제를 위한 초음파를 이용한 마이셀 추출)

  • In this study, an ultrasound-assisted micellar extraction process was developed to efficiently purify the anticancer substance paclitaxel from the plant cell Taxus chinensis. The problem of many extraction steps and long phase separation time in the traditional micellar process could be dramatically improved. The highest paclitaxel yield (~96%, extracted twice) was obtained at 180 W of ultrasonic power and 1.5 h of ultrasonic irradiation time, which was 24.7% higher than that of the traditional method. In addition, the partition coefficient (K) showed a maximum value (24.0) at 180 W of ultrasonic power and 1.5 h of irradiation time. There was no significant difference in the purity of paclitaxel, and the purity of initial paclitaxel (6.81%) increased to 22.0% after purification. Compared to the traditional method, the phase separation time of the back extraction decreased by 40.7-56.2% (ultrasonic power 80 W), 46.3-67.6% (ultrasonic power 180 W), and 51.9-67.6% (ultrasonic power 250 W), respectively. The phase separation time decreased as the ultrasonic power (80-250 W) and irradiation time (0.5-2.5 h) increased.

The Comparative Analysis of EMG Activities on the Lower Limb Muscles during Power Walking and Normal Walking (파워보행과 일반보행 시 하지근의 근전도 비교 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to compare EMG activities on the lower limb muscles during power walking and mormal walking. Seventeen subjects who have no known musculoskeletal disorders performed walking exercise at a cadence of 140 beats/min. After surface electrodes were attached to rectus femoris, vastus medialis, vastus lateralis, biceps femoris, tibialis anterior, medial gastrocnemius, averageed IEMG and peak IEMG, were measured. The result showed that the power walking did influence the averaged IEMG and peak IEMG. The EMG activity of the quadriceps during power walking was significantly higher than the corresponding values in normal walking during most phases. The averaged IEMG and peak IEMG of gastrocnemius muscles at the end of the double limb stance increased significantly when going from normal walking to power walking. The results indicate that power walking had greater effect on EMG activities on the lower limb muscles and demonstrate that the wide range of benefits can be obtained from power walking in respect to health and fitness. This study suggests that power walking has the potential to improve aerobic fitness and assist in weight management.

Power Allocation Scheme For Mobile Communication Systems Using Directional Transmission (방향성 전송을 사용하는 이동통신 시스템을 고려한 파워 할당 방안)

  • Directional transmission is one of key technology to solve the utmost problem that current mobile communication system faces, which is explosively increasing data traffic, since directional transmission can maximize the throughput of mobile communication systems. In this work, we consider power allocation scheme for mobile communication system which utilizing directional transmission. Especially, we consider the case in which multiple users in the same sector of base station, are served at the same time by utilizing directional transmission. For this scenarios, we consider equal power allocation scheme, Water-filling based scheme and inverse SNR scheme. Moreover, we propose beam power allocation scheme whose objective is to maximize overall system throughput by taking into account interference between different directional transmissions. Moreover, we have examined the spectral efficiency and Jain's fairness index of various power allocation schemes for directional transmission by using system level simulator that has been developed in our previous work. Through simulations, it has been verified that the proposed power allocation scheme can improve the spectral efficiency of the system by 28%.

Ethical Dilemma and Empowerment among Dental Hygienists in Some Regions (일부 지역 치과위생사가 경험하는 윤리적 딜레마와 임파워먼트)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the ethical dilemma of dental hygienists and the level of empowerment among them in an attempt to provide some information on how to alleviate the ethical dilemma of dental hygienists to boost their empowerment. The findings of the study were as follows: The dental hygienists got a mean of 1.58 out of possible four points in ethical dilemma. Among the subfactors of ethical dilemma, they scored highest in ethical dilemma about dental hygienists and profession (1.79), followed by dental hygienists and patients (1.53), life reverence and respect for human rights (1.51) and dental hygienists and cooperators (1.49). As for the general characteristics of the dental hygienists, those who were better educated and who intended to temporarily work just until marriage fell into a more ethical dilemma. The dental hygienists got a mean of 3.05 out of possible five points in empowerment. Among the subfactors of it, they scored highest in support structure (3.52), opportunity structure (3.18), information structure (3.08) and resources structure (3.04). There were significant gaps among the dental hygienists in empowerment according to their attitude toward the dental hygienist job as a profession. There was a significant negative correlation between ethical dilemma and empowerment. Regarding influential factors for the ethical dilemma of the dental hygienists, marital status and empowerment were identified as significantly influential factors, and empowerment had a significant relationship to age, academic credential and ethical dilemma. Given the findings of the study, the development of various intervention programs and empowerment-boosting strategies is required to relieve dental hygienists of ethical dilemma.
