Design of Power and Load Reduction Controller for a Medium-Capacity Wind Turbine (중형 풍력터빈의 출력 및 타워 하중저감 제어기 설계)

  • A control algorithm for a 100 kW wind turbine is designed in this study. The wind turbine is operating as a variable speed variable pitch (VSVP) status. Also, this wind turbine is a permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) Type. For the medium capacity wind turbine considered in this study, it was found that the optimum tip speed ratios to achieve the maximum power coefficients varied with wind speeds. Therefore a commercial blade element momentum theory and multi-body dynamics based program was implemented to consider the variation of aerodynamic coefficients with respect to Reynolds numbers and to find out the power and thrust coefficients with respect tip speed ratio and blade pitch angles. In the end a basic power controller was designed for below rated, transition and above rated regions, and a load reduction algorithm was designed to reduce tower vibration by the nacelle motion. As a result, damage equivalent Load (DEL) of tower fore-aft has been reduced by 32%. From dynamic simulations in the commercial program, the controller was found to work properly as designed. Experimental validation of the control algorithm will be done in the future.

A Novel Maximum Power Point Tracking Control Algorithm for Photovoltaic System (태양광 발전 시스템을 위한 새로운 최대 출력점 추종 제어 알고리즘)

  • Most maximum power point tracking(MPPT) control algorithm is based on Perturb and Observe(P&O) and Incremental Conductance(IncCond). In comparison with P&O and IncCond algorithm, the dynamic and tracking characteristic of IncCond algorithm is better than P&O algorithm in condition of rapidly changing solar radiation. But in the case of digital implementation, the InCond algorithm has error en decision of maximum power operation point(MPOP). To solve this problem, this paper proposes a improved IncCond algorithm, which can determine the MPOP correctly by inserting the test signal in control input. This paper proposes a novel MPPT control algorithm for the digitally implemented photovoltaic system in condition of rapidly changing solar radiation. To verify the validity of the proposed control algorithm. the computer simulation and experiment are carried out.

  • 본 논문에서는 전하 균등화를 해주는 동시에 차동전력조절 방식(Differential Power Processing, DPP)을 추가하여 최대 전력점(Maximum Power Point, MPP)을 추종하는 회로를 제안한다. 이를 통하여 본 논문에서는 PV모듈을 제어를 하고, 동시에 벅-플라이백 컨버터를 이용하여 전하 균등화를 할 수 있다. 본 논문에서의 전력조절기는 포워드컨버터로 구성 되어 있고, 주 컨버터인 전하균등화회로는 벅-플라이백컨버터로 구성하였다. 컨버터의 입력은 PV모듈을 직렬로 연결, 출력은 배터리를 직렬로 연결하여 제안한 기능을 구현하였다. 이에 따른 조건을 수식으로 증명하였다.

  • 본 논문에서는 120kW급에 이어 단일용량 200kW급 태양광발전용 계통연계형 인버터의 개발에 관한 내용을 설명하고 있다. 200kW급 계통연계형 태양광발전시스템은 22.9kV의 특고압 계통전원에 연계되도록 설계되었으며, 삼상 380V를 22.9kV로 승압 연계하는 2단 절연방식을 채택하였다. 200kW급 인버터는 상용주파수 변압기 절연방식으로 3상4선식 380V 60Hz 출력을 가지고 있으며, 인버터 내부에 200kVA급 변압기와 리액터를 포함하고 있다. 최대 전력점 추종(Maximum Power Point Tracking, MPPT)제어 기법으로 P&O 알고리즘을 적용하였으며, 3상 IGBT 인버터를 DSP로 제어하였다. 본 논문에서는 200kW급 단일용량 인버터를 개발함에 있어, 계통연계 시험, 단독운전 검출 및 방지 시험, 발전량에 따른 효율과 THD 측정 등의 결과를 보이고 있다.

  • The Photovoltaic systems with solar cell way Provide electrical energy to the utility/consumers, which are becoming one of the promising energy substitutes. The photovoltaic system can be classified into two types : One is the stand-alone type, and the other utility interactive one. The latter can return the generated power to the utility, but the former can't. The utility interactive systems are so valuable for peak power cut in summer season. In the photovoltaic systems the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) has been studied for the increase of the generating energy of the photovoltaic system. There are many control methods of MPPT, but a new MPPT algorithm is proposed to overcome the disadvantages of the conventional ones, and as a result the proposed method enables to improve both tracking ability and generating efficiency of photo voltaic system without DC chopper.

  • 본 논문은 풍속이 변화하는 상황에서 풍력 발전 시스템의 동작을 실시간으로 모의할 수 있는 시뮬레이터의 구성과 실험 결과를 제시한다. 본 논문에서 제시하고자하는 풍력 발전 시스템 시뮬레이터는 실시간 시뮬레이터인 RTDS(Real Time Digital Simulator)와 11kW의 AC 서보 시스템을 포함하는 전동기-발전기 실험 장치(MG set, Motor-Generator Set)로 구현되었다. RTDS는 풍속 모델과 블레이드, 터빈, 발전기를 포함하는 풍력발전 시스템 모델을 실시간으로 모의하며 MG-set은 실시간으로 모의된 풍력 발전 시스템의 물리적 상태를 구현한다. 풍력 발전 시스템 모델의 동작점 궤적과 최대출력점추종(Maximum Power Point Tracking)제어에 의한 풍력 발전 시스템 시뮬레이터의 운전 결과의 제시를 통해 시뮬레이터의 유용성을 검증하였다. 본 논문에서 제시된 시뮬레이터는 상용 실시간 시뮬레이터를 이용하여 간단한 소프트웨어의 수정을 통해 다양한 모델의 풍력 반전 시스템을 모의할 수 있으며 다양한 실험 조건에서 과도상태 및 정상상태 특성 실험이 가능하므로 풍력 발전 시스템의 발전기 특성 평가, 전력 변환 장치의 성능 시험 등에 활용이 가능하다.

  • This paper proposes a grid-tied photovoltaic (PV) system, consisting of Voltage-fed dual-active-bridge (DAB) dc-dc converter with single phase inverter. The proposed converter allows a small dc-link capacitor, so that system reliability can be improved by replacing electrolytic capacitors with film capacitors. The double line frequency free maximum power point tracking (MPPT) is also realized in the proposed converter by using Ripple Correlation method. First of all, to eliminate the double line frequency ripple which influence the reduction of DC source capacitance, control is developed. Then, a designing of Current control in DQ frame is analyzed and to fulfill the international harmonics standards such as IEEE 519 and P1547, $3^{rd}$ harmonic in the grid is directly compensated by the feedforward terms generated by the PR controller with the grid current in stationary frame to achieve desire Total Harmonic Distortion (THD). 5-kW PV converter and inverter module with a small dc-link film capacitor was built in the laboratory with the proposed control and MPPT algorithm. Experimental results are given to validate the converter performance.

  • The small-sized wind turbine generating system with the output power less than 10kW, which can be installed in some areas of hills, parks, and cities due to its flexibility, is one of the progressive research and development fields in renewable energy. It is important for the small wind turbine generators to have low cost, high reliability as well as high efficiency. To meet these requirements, development of various maximum-power-point-tracking (MPPT) control schemes should be required. Generally, the output of the controller can be connected to a 48V battery to supply power to a DC load. In this work, the design and implementation of an FPGA-based MPPT controller for small-sized wind turbine generating system is presented. For the verification of the practical performance of various MPPT algorithms, CRIO controller from NI has been used.

Application of neural network for airship take-off and landing mode by buoyancy control (기낭 부력 제어에 의한 비행선 이착륙의 인공신경망 적용)

  • For long time, the takeoff and landing control of airship was worked by human handling. With the development of the autonomous control system, the exact controls during the takeoff and landing were required and lots of methods and algorithms were suggested. This paper presents the result of airship take-off and landing by buoyancy control using air ballonet volume change and performance control of pitch angle for stable flight within the desired altitude. For the complexity of airship's dynamics, firstly, simple PID controller was applied. Due to the various atmospheric conditions, this controller didn't give satisfactory results. Therefore, new control method was designed to reduce rapidly the error between designed trajectory and actual trajectory by learning algorithm using an artificial neural network. Generally, ANN has various weaknesses such as large training time, selection of neuron and hidden layer numbers required to deal with complex problem. To overcome these drawbacks, in this paper, the RBFN (radial basis function network) controller developed. The weight value of RBFN is acquired by learning which to reduce the error between desired input output through and airship dynamics to impress the disturbance. As a result of simulation, the controller using the RBFN is superior to PID controller which maximum error is 15M.
