Growth and Yield of Potato as Affected by Paper, Oil-treated Paper and Urea-coated Paper Mulching in Spring Season Culture (멀칭종이 기름먹인 멀칭종이 및 요소피복 멀칭종이를 이용한 봄감자 재배시 생육과 수량)

  • A field study was carried out to compare the performances of mulching with recycled paper, oil-treated paper and urea-coated paper in spring season potato culture. Soil temperature, weed occurrence, and the growth and yield of potato (cv. Sumi) were compared with unmulched control. The average soil temperatures at 5cm soil depth during the first 10 days after planting were 18.9$^{\circ}C$, under paper mulch and 20.6$^{\circ}C$, under oil-treated paper mulch, being lower 0.8$^{\circ}C$ and higher 1.2$^{\circ}C$, respectively, than unmulched control. Paper mulch lowered maximum soil temperature by 4.6$^{\circ}C$, on a fine day, while oil-treated paper mulch elevated it by over 6.6$^{\circ}C$, Urea-coated paper was decomposed fester than the mulch paper without urea coating. The former was decomposed 50% by 80days after mulching, but the later only 20%. In all mulch treatments, weeds were effectively controled throughout the potato growing season. The percent emergence of potato was not different significantly among treatments. However, a little lower emergence and poor early growth were observed under oil-treated paper mulch because of higher soil temperature. Except oil-treated paper mulch, the paper mulches with and without urea coating showed no difference in growth and yield of potato from the unmulched control. The growth and yield performances were poorest under oil-treated paper mulch. Oil-treated paper mulch would result in difference growth and yield performances if potato is planted earlier than April IS in the present experiment. Further researches are needed for this aspect.

Effect of Environment on Plant Growth of Oriental Melon in South-North Directed Ridges under East-West Oriented Vinyl house ($\cdot$서동 하우스내 이랑위치별 환경과 참외 생육)

  • This experiment was carried out to investigate the effect of ridge direction (south-north) on temperature and light intensity on early growth of oriental melon under east-west oriented vinyl house cultivation. The air-temperature of minimum between north and south-ridge in the tunnel of vinyl house was $12.5^[\circ}C\;and\;11.3^{\circ}C$ and that of maximum between north and south-ridge was $36.7^{\circ}C\;and\;34.7^{\circ}C$, respectively. The minimum and maximum air-temperature of north-ridge in the tunnel of vinyl house on Feb. 15 were $12^{\circ}C\;and\;2.0^{\circ}C$ higher than those of south-ridge, respectively. The intensity of daylight between south and north-ridge was similar during 9:00-10:30 a.m., that of south-ridge was higher than north-ridge during 10:30-11:30 a.m. and that of north-ridge was higher than south-ridge during 11:30-17:30. The plant growth after 55 days of planting on the north-ridge was prominent cultivation compared to south-ridge. The female flowering and first harvesting day were earlier in north-ridge than in south ridge. The marketable fruits rate and yields (kg/10a) were $6.7\%$ and 218kg higher in north-ridge cultivation than south-ridge, respectively. Differences of marketable fruit rate and yield (kg/10a) in each ridge were significant.

Control Effect of Temperature and Humidity by Ventilation Fan Operation Methods in Wintering Honey Bee House (월동용 양봉사의 환기팬 작동방식에 따른 온 ${\cdot}$ 습도 조절효과)

  • This study was conducted to establish the ventilation fan operation schedule to be able to provide satisfactory environment for colonies in thc wintering honey bee house. The simulation and practical measuring test were conducted to verify the applicability of an existing simulation program to thc calculation of inside thermal environment condition of the house, and the environment control performance was compared between the two types of fan operation schedule to find the proper schedule. It was concluded that the program could be used to design thc materials of the enclosure and the fan operation schedule and decide the number of accommodation hives. Inside temperature of bee house controlled by the fan operation schedule B was lower than the schedule A under the similar high outside temperature condition. In the presence of the high outside temperature condition, inside air temperature of bee house could be decreased by changing fan operation schedule A to schedule B. The humidity variation in bee house controlled by the tan operation of schedule B was smaller than that by schedule A. These results indicated that the schedule B was superior in the aspect of the environment control performance.

Aromatic Constituents and Essential Oil Content of Codonopsis lanceolata Trautv Cultivated at Different Altitudes (표고에 따른 더덕의 향기 성분과 정유 함량)

  • This study was to determine aromatic constituents and essential oil content in the root of Codonopsis lanceolata grown at different altitudes; Andong(150m), Mt. Hagka(550m) and Mt. Irwol(750m). Soil pH in Mt. Hagka and Mt. Irwol was 5.6 and 6.1, respectively, which was lower than in Andong(150m), but organic matter content was higher than that of Andong with 6.7 to 8.8%. Fresh root yield also increased as cultural region was located at higher altitude. In particular, yield in Mt. Irwol was 281kg/10a. Essential oil content was highest of 0.006% in the Mt. Irwo1. Forty-eight volatile aromatic compounds in the root of Codonopsis lanceolata were identified by GC/MS. Major aromatic compounds were 1-hexanol, cis-3-hexano1. and Trans-2-hexanol. In partucular, Trans-2-hexanol, was highest in Mt. Irwol attaining the 47.22% area. As a result, it was considered that cultural region above 700m in altitude was the most effective for the improvement of essential oil and aromatic constituents in the roots of Condonopsis lanceolata Trautv.

Effect of Meteorological Condition during Ripening on the Grain Shattering of Rice Plant (등숙기 기상조건이 벼알의 탈립성에 미치는 영향)

  • Environmental factors are known in general to influence much on the development of abscission layer and thereby on shedding of plant parts. The present study was carried out to determine the effect of meterological condition during ripening on the grain shatterability of rice plants at harvest. Different meteorological conditions were obtained by shifting transplanting timing of 40 days old rice seedlings 4 times with a 15 days-interval. Grain shatterability was measured as tensile strength of rice grains: it varied within a range of 214g. to 251g. in a practically non-shattering Japonica variety'Jinheung' and l27.5g. to 204g. in an easy shattering Indica \times Japonica progeny variety'Taeback'. In view of field loss of rice, the variation in tensile strength with time of transplanting and harvest did not matter in Jinheung, but was an important factor in Taeback. In Taeback the tensile strength was significantly correlated positively with mean, maximum and minimum air temperature and relative humidity during a certain period of grain ripening, especially during 30 days period before harvest, but diurnal range of air temperature showed a significant, negative correlation with it. The tensile strength seemed to be more closely related with min. air temperature than max. air temperature, and it was not significantly correlated with radiation amount during any period of pre-harvest. Meteorological effect on grain shatterability may vary with variety, but temperature regime during ripening appears to play major role among the meteorological factors in easy shattering and more thermophilic Indica \times Japonica varieties: lower the temperature, greater the shatterability.

Emergence Timing of overwintered adults laid eggs and Control Effect by Eco-friendly materials to Cacopsyllapyricola (꼬마배나무이 월동성충 산란 알의 부화 및 유기농업자재에 의한 방제효과)

  • The pear sucker (Cacopsylla pyricola) is the most important insect pest in Korea. The hatching rates of overwintered adults laid eggs were observed at 10, 13, 18, and $22^{\circ}C$. The liner model was draw as Y=0.00277X+0.00146(Y=developmental rate, X=temperature) about temperature and developmental rate to eggs. The developmental threshold temperature to eggs was assumed about $-0.83^{\circ}C$. The egg hatching timing over 50% as the accumulated temperature by day maximum temperature $6^{\circ}C$ over from 1st February in 2008, 2009 and 2011 was 429.7, 417.6, and 424.3 degree $^{\circ}C$, respectively, was 3 to 7days before full blooming in pear orchard. On the other hand, the abamectin 1.8EC, lime sulfer, machine oil and 13 kinds of eco-friendly materials were not shown the control effect to the eggs. To mixed stage of pear sucker, the eco-friendly materials over 90% control value were 4 kinds such as a mixture of Azadiractin A+B, Nimbin, Salanin, Meliantriol and Vepol after twice application as 21st May and 5th June in pear growing season, in 2012.

  • 2007년 발간된 IPCC의 4차 평가보고서에서 자연재해, 환경, 해양, 농업, 생태계, 보건 등 다양한 부분에 미치는 기후변화의 영향에 대한 과학적 근거들이 제시되면서 기후변화는 현세기 범지구적인 화두로 대두되고 있다. 또한, 기후변화에 의한 지구 온난화는 대규모의 수문순환 과정에서의 변화들과 연관되어 담수자원은 기후변화에 대단히 취약하며 미래로 갈수록 악영향을 받을 것으로 6차 기술보고서에서 제시하고 있다. 특히 우리나라는 지구온난화가 전 지구적인 평균보다 급속하게 진행될 가능성이 높기 때문에 기후변화에 대한 담수자원 취약성이 더욱 클 것으로 예상된다. 따라서 지표수에 용수의존도가 높은 우리나라의 댐 저수지를 대상으로 기후변화에 따른 수환경 변화의 정확한 분석과 취약성 평가는 필수적이다. 본 연구에서는 SRES A1B 시나리오를 적용하여 기후변화가 주암호 저수지의 수환경 변화에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 지역스케일의 미래 기후시나리오 생산을 위해 인공신경망(Artificial Neural Network.,ANN)기법을 적용하여 예측인자(강우, 상대습도, 최고온도, 최저온도)에 대해 강우-유출모형에 적용이 가능한 지역스케일로 통계적 상세화를 수행하였으며, 이를 유역모델에 적용하여 저수지 유입부의 유출량 및 부하량을 예측하였다. 유역 모델의 결과를 토대로 저수지 운영모델에 저수지 유입부의 유출량을 적용하여 미래 기간의 방류량을 산정하였으며, 최종적으로 저수지 모델에 유입량, 유입부하량 및 방류량을 적용하여 저수지 내 오염 및 영양물질 순환 및 분포 예측을 통해서 기후변화가 저수지 수환경에 미치는 영향을 평가하였다. 기후변화 시나리오에 따른 상세기 후전망을 위해서 기후인자의 미래분석 기간은 (I)단계 구간(2011~2040년), (II)단계 구간(2041~2070년), (III) 단계 구간(2071~2100년)의 3개 구간으로 설정하여 수행하였으며, Baseline인 1991~2010년까지의 실측값과 모의 값을 비교하여 검증하였다. 강우량의 경우 Baseline 대비 미래로 갈수록 증가하는 것으로 전망되었으며, 2011년 대비 2100년에서 연강수량 6.4% 증가한 반면, 일최대강수량이 7.0% 증가하는 것으로 나타나 미래로 갈수록 집중호우의 발생가능성이 커질 것으로 예측되었다. 유역의 수문 수질변화 전망도 강수량 증가의 영향으로 주암댐으로 유입하는 총 유량이 Baseline 대비 증가 하였으며, 유사량 및 오염부하량도 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 저수지 수환경 변화 예측결과 유입량이 증가함에 따라서 연평균 체류시간이 감소하였으며, 기온 및 유입수온 상승의 영향으로 (I)단계 구간대비 미래로 갈수록 상층 및 심층의 수온이 상승하는 것으로 나타났다. 연중 수온성층기간 역시 증가하는 것으로 나타났으며, 남조류는 (I)단계 구간 대비 (III)단계 구간으로 갈수록 출현시기가 빨라지며 농도 역시 증가하였다. 또한 풍수년, 평수년에 비해 갈수년에 남조류의 연평균농도 상승폭과 최고농도가 크게 나타나 미래로 갈수록 댐 유입량이 적은 해에 남조류로 인한 피해 발생 가능성이 높아질 것으로 예상된다.

Pollination Effect and Nesting Behavior of Osmia cornifrons on 'Hongro', Early and 'Fuji', Late-season Apple Cultivars (중생종 '홍로'와 만생종 '후지'사과에서 머리뿔가위벌(Osmia cornifrons)의 영소활동 특성과 화분매개효과)

  • In order to use Osmia cornifrons more effectively in apples, we investigated the pollination effect and nesting activity of O. cornifrons on 'Hongro', the middle-season cultivar, and 'Fuji', the late-season cultivar. There was a significant difference in the nesting activity and pollination effect of O. cornifrons depending on the apple cultivar. The nesting activity, rate of trap nesting, and reproduction in 'Fuji' were 2.5, 1.5, and 3.8 times greater than in 'Hongro', respectively. The pollination effect according to cultivar 'Fuji' was 1.6 times greater than that of 'Hongro' in the central fruit set. In terms of the quality of fruit, the asymmetry index of 'Fuji' was 2.5 times lower than that of 'Hongro', and the number of apple seeds of 'Fuji' was 1.9 times greater than that of 'Hongro'. The main reason for this result was the air temperature. The activity of O. cornifrons was most affected by air temperature (R2 = 0.578). It is expected that the nesting activity and pollination effect are great in 'Fuji' (17.4-24.1℃) when the temperature during the blooming period is higher than that of 'Hongro' (12.5-20.2℃). Our study provides important information on stable apple production for apple cultivators, and can be used as an evidence for changes in flora and insect fauna caused by climate change.

Long-term Trends of Daily Maximum and Minimum Temperatures for the Major Cities of South Korea and their Implications on Human Health (한국의 주요 대도시에 대한 일 최고 및 최저 기온의 장기변동 경향과 건강에 미치는 영향 전망)

  • Trends of daily maximum and minimum temperatures in major cities of South Korea (Seoul, Busan, Incheon, Daegu, and Ulsan) during the past 40 years (1961-2000) were investigated. Temperature records for the Chupungryeong station were compared with those of the large cities because of the rural environment of the station. There were distinct warming trends at all stations, although the warming rates depend on each station's local climate and environment. The warming rates in Korea are much greater than the global warming trends, by a factor of 3 to 4. The most increasing rate in daily maximum temperature was at Busan with $0.43^{\circ}C$ per decade, the most increasing rate in daily minimum temperature was at Daegu with $0.44^{\circ}C$ per decade. In general, the warming trends of the cities were most pronounced in winter season with an increasing rate of $0.5^{\circ}C$/decade at least. Diurnal temperature range shows positive or negative trends according to the regional climate and environmental change. The frequency distribution of the daily temperatures for the past 40 years at Seoul and Chupungryeong shows that there have been reductions in cold day frequencies at both stations. The results imply that the impacts on human health might be positive in winter and adverse in summer if the regional warming scenario by the current regional climate model reflects future climate change in Korea.

Sap Collection and Major Components of Acer okamotoanum Nakai Native in Ullungdo (울릉도 자생 우산고로쇠나무의 수액채취와 주요성분)

  • The collecting amount by DBH class and contents of mineral and free sugar in the sap of Acer okamotoanum Nakai being autogenous in Ullungdo were investigated. The total amount of sap was 376 l Sap of A. okamotoanum were increased with increasing DBH, 67 l (18%), 121 l (32%) and 188 l (50%) from small (below 18 cm), middle $(20{\sim}28\;cm)$ and large (above 30cm) diameter tree, respectively. Amounts of sap was required by big temperature fluctuation in day and night. The contents of solid, ash and sugar were 3.04%, 0.06% and 3.06% in the sap of A. okamotoanum. Free sugar determined in the sap was sucrose with 30.6 g/l, but glucose, fructose and maltose were not detected. The sap of A. okamotoanum was composed of seven kinds of mineral. The prominent minerals in the sap were Ca and K, and the concentrations of Ca and K were 522 mg/l and 309 mg/l, respectively.
