Regulatory fit occurs when the way people act accords with their goal orientation the activity. When there is regulatory fit, to pursue a goal feels light and also increases the value of what a person is doing-value from fit. Value from fit can be transferred to other value experiences such as monetary value. Present research proposes that regulatory fit occurs when the domain in which a decision or an evaluation is made sustains the decision maker's chronic goal orientation, and this regulatory fit affects the value that he or she assigns to the object. In Experiment 1, participants with chronic promotion or prevention focus evaluated their preference and purchase intention on 14 design products including positive and negative emotional valences. Results showed that evaluations on the product design (promotion domain) were more extreme under promotion than prevention, F(1, 95) 4.87, p < .05. In Experiment 2 with 16 moral scenarios including prescriptive and proscriptive morality, prevention-focus individuals evaluated immoral behaviors as more immoral than promotion-focus individuals only in the proscriptive scenarios (prevention domain), F(1, 139) = 4.14, p < .05. In prescriptive scenarios, regulatory fit effect was not found. Findings from both experiments suggest that regulatory fit occurs when the domain of an issue that people engage in sustains their goal orientation.
This paper investigates the possibility that children in school limit their mothers' labor supply. The theoretical background for the possibility is that mothers may choose to stay home if their time and monetary inputs on children's quality investment are poor substitutes for each other. The empirical findings suggest that labor supply of highly educated women and those with high household income is relatively suppressed by their children in school.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the positive impact that social value coaching has on employees, specifically highlighting the role of regulatory focus. Based on a coaching model, we developed a social value coaching program and applied it to the employees. We investigated whether the experimental group that participated in the social value coaching program would report higher levels of meaning of work, hedonic job satisfaction, eudaimonic job satisfaction, and job crafting compared to the control group, as well as whether regulatory focus would function as a moderator. We only analyzed the moderating role of prevention focus as promotion focus did not show any moderating effects. The results suggest that the experimental group that participated in the social value coaching program reported significant increases in all of the outcome variables compared to the control group. Additionally, for meaning of work, hedonic job satisfaction, and eudaimonic job satisfaction, the effects of the coaching program was stronger for those with a higher level of prevention focus than those with a lower level of it. Based on these results, we discussed the implications and limitations of this research, as well as suggestions for future research.
This study explores the effects of different Focus-on-Form Instruction (FFI) on improving learners' grammatical knowledge development and observes how the learners apply the knowledge to their output. A total of 112 college students were placed into three groups: 35 input-enhanced group students, who received visually enhanced input reading materials, 41 output-enhanced group students, performing dictogloss tasks, and 46 control group students given traditional grammar instruction. All the participant students took pre/post grammatical tests and completed pre/post writing tasks, which aimed to look into how the target grammatical structures were used in writing. The research findings indicated that both input-enhanced and output-enhanced FFI were effective on learners' language form learning and made contribution to their writing. Based on the findings, this study suggests that the elaborate design of combination of both FFI can maximize learners' language form learning.
The current study investigated mediating effects of self-regulatory system in the context of public service announcements (PSAs). We conducted a survey to collect participants' orientation of self-regulatory systems, emotional response and evaluation of PSAs. A total of 70 undergraduate students with mean age of 22.49 (SD = 3.22). Results showed that emotional engagement to the PSAs is affected by ad liking and, in turn, directly influences intention to act as a campaign outcome. Furthermore, our findings suggested that promotion-oriented individuals are more likely to commit PSA messages than do the prevention-oriented individuals. Therefore, messages of the PSA campaign should include hope and aspiration, indicating the connection of accomplishment and advancement.

Investment of organization in information security is increasing, but information security threats within the organization are not decreasing. The purpose of this study is to suggest a direction to increase the information security compliance intention of employees. In detail, the study presents the positive effects of security motivation and organization trust on the information security compliance intention, and presents the moderating effect of work promotion focus. Research model and hypothesis verification are confirmed through structural equation modeling and the study conducted a questionnaire technique to the employees of the organization applying the information security policy for quantitative verification. As a result, information security punishment and value congruence had a positive affect on the compliance intention by mediating organization trust. In addition, work promotion focus had a moderating effect on the positive relationship between the precedent factors on the compliance intention. The research has academic and practical implications from the viewpoint of presenting the factors of the organization's efforts to improve the level of information security compliance by insiders.
This paper compared self-validation and regulatory focus between consumers who felt happy vs. sad prior to decision and explored the effects of self-validation on regulatory focus and information distortion. The results of empirical analysis are as follows. First, consumers who felt happy beforehand revealed larger self-validation and stronger promotion focus than those who felt sad in advance. Second, compared to sadness, just-felt happiness was found to have partially positive impact on promotion focus by means of self-validation and exercise entirely positive impact on information distortion through mediation of self-validation. This study has made theoretic contributions by identifying the differences in the extent of self-validation and promotion focus between happiness and sadness as ambient emotion felt prior to the impending decision making as well as by investigating the effects of self-validation upon information distortion.

In venture creation research, studying 'entrepreneurial leadership' is important for uncovering and comprehending the underlying causal process in innovative behavior performance. Although previous studies provide that entrepreneurial leadership enhances followers' innovative behavior, there is few research on entrepreneurial leadership and followers' characteristics interaction. The present study's focus is paradoxical effects of entrepreneurial leadership on self-efficacy and innovative behavior. On the basis of individual regulatory focus, this study suggests that interaction effects of entrepreneurial leadership and followers' regulatory focus differed in promotion view and prevention view followers' innovative behavior. To strengthen the casual mechanism, this study conducted in priming experiment method using employees in SMEs. This study used a 2(entrepreneurial leadership vs. control) x 2 (regulatory focus: promotion vs. prevention) between-participants design. The results of this study provide that (1) Individuals in promotion focus especially benefited from entrepreneurial leadership in terms of its effect on their self-efficacy and innovative behavior; (2) whereas entrepreneurial leadership was negatively related to self-efficacy and innovative behavior of followers' prevention focus. In sum, results of the present study supporting evidence for hypotheses, combined effect of entrepreneurial leadership and regulatory focus on innovative behavior through self-efficacy. Experimental results confirmed hypotheses of this study, revealing that promotion focus show more innovative behavior than prevention focus when their leaders' leadership style is entrepreneurial leadership. Also, the paradoxical effect of entrepreneurial leadership and regulatory focus of followers on innovative behavior was mediated by followers' self-efficacy. This study helps explain how leaders' entrepreneurial leadership boost followers' innovative behavior, particularly for those employees who have promotion focus. The current study contributes to the theory of entrepreneurial leadership and regulatory focus and innovation literature. Findings of this study shed light on the organizational processes that shape innovative behavior in venture/startup corporations and provide contributions for venture business field.
