  • In this study, we developed the google spreadsheet education program which focuses on the education data visualization. And we applied it to forth and fifth grade students, and then verified its effect. The developed program was applied to 29 forth and fifth grade students for 36 classes in six days. Application of the program In order to verify the effect on creativity, Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking Figures A and B were introduced and pretests and post tests were carried out. As a result of the verification, it was found that the google spreadsheet education program which focuses on the education data visualization has positive effects on the creativity factors of the elementary school forth and fifth grade students.

  • In this study, we suggest implications for teaching mathematical justification with analysis of 6th grade students' awareness of why they needed mathematical justification and their levels of mathematics justification in Algebra and Geometry. Also how their levels of mathematical justification were related to mathematic achievement. 96% of students thought mathematical justification was needed, the reasons were limited for checking their solutions and answers. The level of mathematical justification in Algebra was higher than in Geometry. Students who had higher mathematic achievement had higher levels of mathematical justification. In conclusion, we searched the possibility of teaching mathematical justification to students, and we found some practical methods for teaching.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore the relationships between learning-related social skills, early school adjustment, and academic achievement. The sample consisted of 160 first grade children in one elementary school in the city of Ilsan. The teacher rated children's learning-related social skills and early school adjustment. Academic achievement was assessed by scores on Korean language arts and math exams administered at the end of first semester. Learning-related social skills and early school adjustment were correlated with the children's academic achievement. Particularly, the cooperation and mastery behavior of learning-related social skills were strongly associated with the early school adjustment and academic achievement.

  • The school foodservice was quantitatively extended by policy of government all the while. There was carried out the survey of customer satisfaction about school foodservice by the ministry of education, science, and technology since 2006 years. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to grasp an improvement of the scores of school foodservice' quality attributes and satisfaction as compared with the preceding year by respondents and school type (elementary school, middle school, and high school). An annual survey was practiced to respondents (students, parents, and faculty) on september 2007 years and 2008 years in 16 cities and provinces. The statistics was analyzed to descriptive analysis and t-test for SPSS 12.0. The scores of school foodservice' quality attributes and overall customer satisfaction were almost increased to students, parents, and faculty and especially, big elevation in middle school. There was big increased the quality attributes such as 'providing information on foodservice', 'pleasant foodservice environment', 'kindness offered by employee' in elementary school, middle school, and high school to total respondents. An overall satisfaction in school foodservice was improved from 69.2 score to 71.9 score. On students, scores of overall satisfaction was increased from 72.9 to 74.0 as students of elementary school and from 61.5 to 65.8 as students of middle school (p < .001). Therefore, for improvement and development of school foodservice, there should be a necessary for an operator of school foodservice and an office of education to make an effort.

  • The goal of this research is to analyze the trend of Korean fourth grade students' achievement in TIMSS 2011 and TIMSS 2015 science content domains and to suggest implications for science curriculum and teaching & learning improvement. With four elementary science teachers and three science educators, we analyzed Korean fourth grade students' percentage of correct responses in TIMSS 2015 science content and cognitive domains, and conducted item-curriculum matching analysis for test items. According to the results, Korean students performed relatively better in test topics covered in the science curriculum for 3-4 grades regardless of the science content domain (i.e., Life science, Physical science, or Earth science). Korean students showed low percentage of correct answers for items related to such topics as heat conduction, the action of electricity, the motion of the earth and the moon, etc., which were covered in the 5th-6th grades in the 2009 revised curriculum. For science cognitive domains, Korean students' achievement dropped significantly in reasoning between TIMSS 2011 and TIMSS 2015. Discussed in the conclusion are implications to reconstruct elementary school science curriculum, and ways to improve science teaching and learning.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze teachers' understanding of the number and operations area of grades 3 to 6 in elementary school mathematics curriculum and to derive implications for improving teachers' understanding of the mathematics curriculum. To this end, elementary school teachers were asked to develop items to evaluate curriculum achievement standards at each grade level, and then the teachers' understanding of the curriculum was examined based on the collected items. As a result of the study, there was a misinterpretation of the achievement standards in approximately 25% of the questions collected. Typically, cases where the content covered by each grade was confused when using textbooks as a standard, or cases where the difference between the content covered by the two achievement standards could not be completely distinguished were found.

  • This study aims to provide basic data for the development of educational programs for effective gender equality education in elementary schools by confirming the consciousness of gender equality in the 5th and 6th graders of elementary school. In this study, 5th and 6th graders attending three elementary schools located in G and A cities explained the research and collected data using questionnaires from 190 people who wished to participate in the research. Frequency analysis and percentage were used for general characteristics of subjects, and t-test and ANOVA were used for differences in gender equality awareness according to subjects' sex, grade, and number of siblings. Consciousness of gender equality showed an average of 3.47 points out of 4, with an average of 3.51 points in the social and cultural life area, 3.49 points in the home life area, 3.47 points in the school life area, and 3.38 points in the vocation life area. Various activities should be conducted to raise students' consciousness of gender equality, and families, schools, and society should jointly strive to create a gender-equal cultural climate. Future study is needed to identify the factors affecting the gender equality awareness of elementary school students.
