  • Authigenic siderite grains, ranging 100 to 250-${\mu}$m in diameter, are abundant in an about 8,600-year-old sediment layer in Namyang Bay, west coast of Korea. The siderites exhibit the aggregated spherulitic morphology with well-developed rhombs on the grain surfaces. They consist mostly of FeCO$_3$ (average, 65%) and MnCO$_3$ (average, 22%) with low Mg/Ca ratio (less than 0.4) in their bulk composition. A series of compositional ternary discrimination diagrams, together with high Mn and low Mg contents, show that only meteoric porewater was involved in siderite precipitation, assuming that depositional environment of host sediment is an organic-rich freshwater system. Considering a series of results such as radiocarbon age, authigenic Mn-rich siderite and lithological features, siderite-hosting sediment (unit Tl) is interpreted as freshwater swamp or bog deposition, infilling the topographic depressions that locally existed before the formation of mid-to-late Holocene tidal deposits. Center-to-margin compositional variation within individual grain is very systematic; Mn and Ca decrease towards the margin of a siderite grain, while Fe and Mg increase. It suggests that the spherulitic siderites were precipitated in this sedimentary layer in a series during the early diagenesis of MnOx-FeOx reduction under steady-state.

  • This study purported to examine the effects of precarious employment and social capital on the changes of self-rated health status among the middle aged and the young-old population in South Korea. The study analyzed 12 year follow-up data generated by the Korean Labor and Income Panel Study(KLIPS 6-17), which included 10532 employed subjects aged 55 to 75. Multi-level growth curve modeling was performed by fixed and random effect models using STATA 13.0 program. Afterwards, Hausman test was performed, which resulted in support of the estimation by fixed effect model. The results showed that a day labor position was significant factor affecting the deteriorated changes of self-rated health status over time. In addition, wage, weekly working hours, and private/relational social capitals were also found to be significant factors affecting the changes of the self-rated health status. The results supported the divergence hypothesis as well as the cumulative advantage theory. Efforts should be made to develop and implement various employment support policies and social service programs to alleviate the health inequality of the employed workers over their middle-aged to young-old period.

  • This study conducted an empirical analysis of whether the accelerator incubation program (mentoring, seed investment) and entrepreneur self-efficacy affect competitive advantage performance for start-up representatives who have experienced the accelerator incubation program. At this time, the mediating effect of innovation capability was also examined. As for sample collection, 334 samples collected from representatives of start-ups nurtured by national accelerators and regional centers for creative economy and innovation in Korea were tested using the Smart PLS 4.0 program, and the analysis results are as follows. First, mentoring has no significant effect on competitive advantage performance, whereas seed investment and entrepreneur self-efficacy have a positive (+) effect on competitive advantage performance. Second, mentoring, seed investment, and entrepreneurial self-efficacy have a positive (+) effect on innovation capability. Third, innovation capability has a positive (+) effect on competitive advantage performance. And fourth, it was confirmed that innovation competency has a positive (+) effect between mentoring, seed investment, entrepreneurship self-efficacy and competitive advantage, and has a mediating effect. As a result, while mentoring did not have a direct significant effect on competitive advantage performance, it was confirmed that there was a significant effect mediated by innovation capability. Seed investment, entrepreneur self-efficacy, and innovation capability directly helped competitive advantage performance, and it was confirmed that innovation capability has an effect on the competitive advantage performance as a mediating effect. It is expected that this study will be able to suggest a direction that can help start-ups improve their competitive advantage performance.

  • This paper put the goal on boosting up early startup investment by delivering and positioning SAFE as the main early startup investment type in Korea. In particular, this paper proves the better fitting of SAFE as to the early stage of venture investment than these of Convertible Note. This paper as referring the previous studies of SAFE as the major keystone issues determining active SAFE applying (legal positioning issue, tax treatment issue, failure of inducing the following investment with uncertainty over maturity) proposes boosting up policy of Korean SAFE. First, as to accounting treatment of SAFE, it suggests SAFE to recognize legally as "the capital" on the Korean Venture Investment Act of introducing SAFE actively as venture investment type. Second, as to tax treatment issue, it proposes on amending venture indication rule as the best alternative of resolving tax issue by accepting SAFE as the investment meeting to venture investment requirement. Third, as benchmarking foreign cases, it delivers the method of modifying foreign SAFE Contract Format by adding up more clauses about safety vehicles against the failure of the following investment and fixing maturity date and event. Ultimately, all resolutions of this paper fall on highlighting the role of Korean Venture Investment Act and Ministry of SMEs and Startups.

  • In the midst of the current turbulent global economy, traditional investment metrics are undergoing a metamorphosis, signaling the onset of what's often referred to as an "Investment cold season". Early-stage startups, despite their boundless potential, grapple with immediate revenue constraints, intensifying their pursuit of critical investments. While financial indicators once took center stage in investment evaluations, a notable paradigm shift is underway. Organizational culture, once relegated to the sidelines, has now emerged as a linchpin in forecasting a startup's resilience and enduring trajectory. Our comprehensive research, integrating insights from CVF and OCAI, unveils the intricate relationship between organizational culture and its magnetic appeal to investors. The results indicate that startups with a pronounced external focus, expertly balanced with flexibility and stability, hold particular allure for investment consideration. Furthermore, the study underscores the pivotal role of adhocracy and market-driven mindsets in shaping investment desirability. A significant observation emerges from the study: startups, whether they secured investment or failed to do so, consistently display strong clan culture, highlighting the widespread importance of nurturing a positive employee environment. Leadership deeply anchored in market culture, combined with an unwavering commitment to innovation and harmonious organizational practices, emerges as a potent recipe for attracting investor attention. Our model, with an impressive 88.3% predictive accuracy, serves as a guiding light for startups and astute investors, illuminating the intricate interplay of culture and investment success in today's economic landscape.

  • In this paper, we propose a pulmonary nodule registration for the tracking of lung nodules in sequential CT scans. Our method consists of following five steps. First, a translational mismatch is corrected by aligning the center of optimal bounding volumes including each segmented lung. Second, coronal maximum intensity projection(MIP) images including a rib structure which has the highest intensity region in baseline and follow-up CT series are generated. Third, rigid transformations are optimized by normalized average density differences between coronal MIP images. Forth, corresponding nodule candidates are defined by Euclidean distance measure after rigid registration. Finally, template matching is performed between the nodule template in baseline CT image and the search volume in follow-up CT image for the nodule matching. To evaluate the result of our method, we performed the visual inspection, accuracy and processing time. The experimental results show that nodules in serial CT scans can be rapidly and correctly registered by coronal MIP-based rigid registration and local template matching.

  • The characteristics of $NO/N_2O$ nitrided oxide and reoxidized nitrided oxide being studied as super thin gate oxide and gate dielectric layers of nonvolatile semiconductor memory(NVSM) was investigated by dynamic secondary ion mass spectrometry(D-SMS), time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry(ToF-SIMS), and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The specimen was annealed in $NO/N_2O$ ambient after initial oxide process. The result of D-SIMS exhibits that the center of nitrogen exists at the initial oxide interface and the distribution of nitrogen is wider in the annealing process with $N_2O$ than with NO annealing process. For investigating the condition of nitrogen that exists within the nitrided oxide, ToF-SIMS and XPS analysis were carried out. It was shown that the center of nitrogen investigated by D-SIMS was expected the SiON chemical bonds. The nitrogen near the newly formed reoxide/silicon substrate interface was appeared as $Si_2NO$ chemical bonds, and it is agreed with the distribution of SiN and $Si_2NO$ species by ToF-SIMS.

  • The crucial problems of K-means clustering are deciding the number of clusters and initial centroids of clusters. Hence, the steps of K-means clustering are generally consisted of two-stage clustering procedure. The first stage is to run hierarchical clusters to obtain the number of clusters and cluster centroids and second stage is to run nonhierarchical K-means clustering using the results of first stage. Here we provide automated K-means clustering procedure to be useful to obtain initial centroids of clusters which can also be useful for large data sets, and provide software program implemented using R.

  • Through the biographical approach, the current research purports to reconstruct the Changeprocess of values and identities on the lives of the first-generation Korean-German females in Germany from the transnational perspective. Ten interviews were conducted, using Schutze's autobiographicalnarrative interview. Interview data were analyzed through the application of Schutze's autobiographical-narrative interview and Mayring's qualitative content analysis. Findings showed that on the onset of emigration, their values centered around hybrid collectivism. Their life in the process of emigration was characteristic of a shift to hybrid individualism. Furthermore, the life at beginning of emigration was found to be characterized by a singular regional identity. The process of emigration was shown to mark the conversion into dual identity, dual regional and dual national. Some theoretical and practical suggestions for the emigrants' welfare were finally offered that were associated with the process of values and identities changes in their life.

  • Systematic studies have been rarely conducted on the acceptance of big data technology despite the technology drawing much attention from academia, industry and general public. With big data technology still being in the infant stage in Korea, a study model was constructed in this paper by integrating the innovation diffusion theory and the task technology fit theory with this technology acceptance model (TAM) as the central framework to make big data technology more readily acceptable in the country, and the aim of making big data technology readily acceptable was expanded as the moderator variable of the TAM. The results of this study showed that "subjective norm" and "task technology fit" showed the most significant effect as the exogenous variables of the TAM. In addition, the "innovative characteristic of the organization" was the significant exogenous variable affecting the intention to accept big data technology to those "technology utilizers" that try to come up with new services or products that are technology-based; however, "subjective norm" was the rather significant factor affecting those simple "technology users". Finally, a significant difference was seen in the verification of mediation effect.
