  • Generally, fully implantable middle ear hearing device (F-IMEHD) is implanted under the skin nearby human temporal bone with all components including implantable microphone and vibration transducer. The microphone and transducer have different characteristic before and after implant. Fitting process is performed for this characteristic change of them and proper performance of hearing aids for each patient. Conventional hearing aids and partially implantable hearing aids, they have wired connector for fitting process. However in case of F-IMEHD, it is difficult this wired connection, because all components of F-IMEHD is implanted. In this paper, fitting software that can be apply wireless fitting hardware for F-IMEHD has been designed and implemented. It can find out proper fitting parameter reflecting characteristics of the microphone and transducer for patients who has difficulty in hearing.

  • A 4-year-old, intact female Border Collie was presented for evaluation of hearing impairment. Clinical, neurological, otoscopic and magnetic resonance imaging examinations were carried out to determine the cause of hearing loss, but no remarkable change was found. Then, brainstem auditory-evoked response test was performed to assess hearing loss, and the dog had a bilateral sensorineural deafness was revealed. Since possible causes of acquired hearing loss were ruled out by several examinations and history taking, bilateral later-onset deafness was suspected to be genetic and not congenital. This report suggested the possibility that dogs had inherited later-onset sensorineural deafness.

  • In this paper, we propose a high frequency boosting circuits compensating for age-related hearing loss. The frequency response of this hearing loss is quite similar to that of a low-pass filter of which the critical frequency get lower with age. Therefore the voltage gain of this compensation circuits increase proportionally to the frequency of signals when the frequency is higher than the critical frequency and the voltage is constant irrespective of the frequency of signals when the frequency is lower than the critical frequency. The proposed circuits consist of a differential circuit and a unity gain amplifier. Because the critical frequency of the proposed circuits is controlled simply in the shape of a volume control lever, the aged people can adjust the high frequency boosting level easily according to one's hearing loss level. The critical frequency is continuously controllable in the whole audible frequency band and the gain of this high frequency boosting circuits is above 80dB at 10kHz.

  • The aim of this study was to investigate phoneme recognition in postlingually deafened adults with cochlear implantation. 21-cochlear implantee were participated. They was used cochlear implants more than 1 year. In order to measure consonant performance abilities, subjects were asked for 18 items of Korean consonants in a "aCa" condition with audition alone. The scores ranged from 11 to 86 ($60{\pm}17$)%. The consonant performance abilities correlated with implanted hearing threshold level, significantly (p<.046). This results suggest that consonant performance abilities of postlingual deafened adults cochlear implantee be important for implanted hearing. They had higher correct rates for fricatives and affricatives with distinctive frequency bands than for plosives, liquids & nasals with the same or adjacent frequency bands. All subjects had confusion patterns among the consonants of the same manner of articulation. The reason of consonant confusions was caused that they couldn't recognize different intensities and durations of consonants with the same or adjacent frequency bands.
