A Study on the Cause and Improvement of the Red-Water Occurrence in Urban Stream (도심하천 내 적수발생 지점에 대한 원인검토 및 개선방안 연구)

  • This study aims to identify the cause of the red-water occurrence (the phenomenon of water being red) that occurs at some points and sections of rivers in Yongin City. As a result of conducting a preliminary investigation, total three sites were selected as the investigation point as it was found that the red-water occurrence continued. As a result of the investigation, it is judged that the cause of the red-water in Yongin-city river is due to the soil color and iron content of the region. JPS, SBS, and JJS sites all showed that the color of soil is mainly consist of reddish brown and red-yellow. The average Fe concentration was 13.75 mg/L, 10.85 mg/L, and 1.31 mg/L, for each sites, and considering that the Fe concentration in general river water was less than 0.5 mg/L, it was confirmed that the concentration was quite high. At the JPS and JJS points, the red-water occurrence occurred mainly in stagnant places, which is believed to be strengthened by the reaction of organic and microorganisms. In the case of SBS, the wateris red, but as a result of observing the actual color, it is judged that the iron component deposited in the pipe causes an optical illusion with a deep red color. In addition, it is believed that the iron concentration can be reduced to the general river water concentration range by removing the particulate iron component through a decrease of more than 95% as a result of filtering with glass fiber filter with particulate iron. As a result of this study, it is necessary to manage the river to maintain the flow, and it is believed that the occurrence of red-water at the survey point can be alleviated through uptake action through planting and agglomeration precipitation and agglomeration filtration methods for particulate iron treatment.

Uplift Bearing Capacity of Spiral Steel Peg for the Single Span Greenhouse (온실용 나선철항의 인발저항력 검토)

  • This study examined the uplift bearing capacity of spiral steel pegs according to the degree of soil compaction and embedded depth in a small-scaled lab test. As a result, their uplift bearing capacity increased according to the degree of soil compaction and embedded depth. The uplift bearing capacity under the ground condition of 85% compaction rate especially recorded 48.9 kgf, 57.9 kgf, 86.2 kgf and 116.6 kgf at embedded depth of 25 cm, 30 cm, 35 cm and 40 cm, respectively, being considerably higher than under other ground conditions. There were huge differences in the uplift bearing capacity of spiral steel pegs according to the compaction conditions of ground. Their maximum uplift bearing capacity was 116.6 kgf under the ground condition of 85% compaction rate and at embedded depth of 40 cm, and it is very high considering the data of spiral steel pegs. It is thus estimated that wind damage can be effectively reduced by careful maintenance of ground condition surrounding spiral steel pegs. In addition, spiral steel pegs will be able to make a contribution to greenhouse structural stability if proper installation methods are provided including the number and interval according to the types of greenhouse as well as fixation of plastic film. The findings of the study indicate that the optimal effects of spiral steel pegs for greenhouse can be achieved at embedded depth of more than 35cm and compaction degree of more than 85%. The relative density of the model ground in the test was 67% at compaction rate of 85%.

The Effects of Pollutants into Sub-basin on the Water Quality and Loading of Receiving Streams (하천 수질 및 부하량에 미치는 유역 내 오염원의 영향)

  • We examined the effects of pollutants into sub-basin on the water quality and loading based on data surveyed during January-December 2013 from 13 sites of 5 streams in the Jinwi watershed. We used the contour plot and Kruskal-Wallis rank sum test to analyze seasonal variation of water quality and loading and Pearson correlation analysis to assess the relationships between pollutants and loadings. The significantly higher seasonal variation were SS, TN and TOC as compared to other water quality constituents (P < 0.001). A significant interaction existed between the effects of human population and the effects of discharge of Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) on water quality and loading, especially for the spring and winter seasons. It is necessary to control discharge water of sewage and wastewater from industrial facilities and to make full use of the watershed management system such as TMDLs in operation since 2012 for improvement in stream water quality.

A Study on Legal and Institutional Improvement Measures for the Effective Implementation of SMS -Focusing on Aircraft Accident Investigation-

  • Even with the most advanced aviation technology benefits, aircraft accidents are constantly occurring while air passenger transportation volume is expected to double in the next 15 years. Since it is not possible to secure aviation safety only by the post aircraft accident safety action of accident investigations, it has been recognized and consensus has been formed that proactive and predictive prevention measures are necessary. In this sense, the aviation safety management system (SMS) was introduced in 2008 and has been carried out in earnest since 2011. SMS is a proactive and predictive aircraft accident preventive measure, which is a mechanism to eliminate the fundamental risk factors by approaching organizational factors beyond technological factors and human factors related to aviation safety. The methodology is to collect hazards in all the sites required for aircraft operations, to build a database, to analyze the risks, and through managing risks, to keep the risks acceptable or below. Therefore, the improper implementation of SMS indicates that the aircraft accident prevention is insufficient and it is to be directly connected with the aircraft accident. Reports of duty performance related hazards including their own errors are essential and most important in SMS. Under the policy of just culture for voluntary reporting, the guarantee of information providers' anonymity, non-punishment and non-blame should be basically secured, but to this end, under-reporting is stagnant due to lack of trust in their own organizations. It is necessary for the accountable executive(CEO) and senior management to take a leading role to foster the safety culture initiating from just culture with the safety consciousness, balancing between safety and profit for the organization. Though a Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's order, "Guidance on SMS Implementation" states the training required for the accountable executive(CEO) and senior management, it is not legally binding. Thus it is suggested that the SMS training completion certificates of accountable executive(CEO) and senior management be included in SMS approval application form that is legally required by "Korea Aviation Safety Program" in addition to other required documents such as a copy of SMS manual. Also, SMS related items are missing in the aircraft accident investigation, so that organizational factors in association with safety culture and risk management are not being investigated. This hinders from preventing future accidents, as the root cause cannot be identified. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Manuals issued by ICAO contain the SMS investigation wheres it is not included in the final report form of Annex 13 to the Convention on International Civil Aviation. In addition, the US National Transportation Safety Board(NTSB) that has been a substantial example of the aircraft accident investigation for the other accident investigation agencies worldwide does not appear to expand the scope of investigation activities further to SMS. For these reasons, it is believed that investigation agencies conducting their investigations under Annex 13 do not include SMS in the investigation items, and the aircraft accident investigators are hardly exposed to SMS investigation methods or techniques. In this respect, it is necessary to include the SMS investigation in the organization and management information of the final report format of Annex 13. In Korea as well, in the same manner, SMS item should be added to the final report format of the Operating Regulation of the Aircraft and Railway Accident Investigation Board. If such legal and institutional improvement methods are complemented, SMS will serve the purpose of aircraft accident prevention effectively and contribute to the improvement of aviation safety in the future.

An SE-Based System Architecture Process for Submarine's Basic Design (잠수함 기본설계를 위한 SE 기반 시스템 아키텍처 프로세스)

  • Naval Ships have a number of requirements related to performance. Naval ship acquisition takes a long time from initial planning to delivery, and various products such as drawings and reports are created. In complex systems, such as naval ships, it is difficult to maintain the required traceability through these outputs. The basic design of the ship is an important step to determine the specifications, performance, and equipment of the ship. It is necessary to apply the systematic requirements management process. The basic design manages the requirements in accordance with the systems engineering-based technical review process, but the actual system architecture design process is not presented. The traceability between the requirements and the functional and physical architectures of components is unclear. This paper examined how to design the system architecture required for specification and system design, and the design results were verified using SE-based technical review process for requirements management. A step-by-step process for designing a submarine system architecture is presented and verified using the SE technical review. This facilitates the specification of the requirements and system architecture design, and supports traceability management and verification of the requirements. The proposed process can be applied in various ships including submarines.

  • In Semantic Web, metadata and ontology for representing semantics and conceptual relationships of information resources are essential factors. RDF and RDF Schema are W3C standard models for describing metadata and ontology. Therefore, many studies to store and retrieve RDF and RDF Schema documents are required. In this paper, we focus on some results of analyzing available query patterns considering both RDF and RDF Schema and classify queries on RDF and RDF Schema into the three patterns. RDF and RDF Schema can be represented as graph models. So, we proposed some strategies to store and retrieve using the graph models of RDF and RDF Schema. We can retrieve entities that can be arrived from a certain class or property in RDF and RDF Schema without a loss of performance on account of multiple joins with tables.

Distribution of spontaneously growing mushrooms in the juwangsan national park (주왕산국립공원의 자생버섯 분포상)

  • Mushrooms growing spontaneously in the Juwangsan National Park were surveyed from April to October 2017 for supporting management of higher fungi and creating a bio-diversity database of the park. In total, two divisions, eight classes, 21 orders, 85 families, 225 genera, and 503 species were detected. Among them, 247 species belonged to order Agaricales, which occupied 48.8% of the population, followed by members of orders Polyporales and Russulales. The mushrooms were abundant in August, and an altitude of 300-400 m above sea level was optimal for their growth, such as those found at Sanguijigu, Deajeonsa, and Geodaeri semgoal areas. Furthermore, Macrolepiota procera and Sarcodon aspratus, which belong to criteria of climate change, were detected in this survey.

History Database Construction for Digital Map Updating System using As-Built Drawings (준공도면을 이용한 수치지형도 갱신시스템의 이력 DB 설계)

  • The modification of digital maps because of creation, extinction, and change of topology can be expressed by change of information. But according to complication of society, topology of digital maps and relation with another objects is more complicated. We carry out partial update using as-built drawings to reflect in digital maps efficiently with maintaining accuracy and update. This supplement a weak point of partial update without field surveying. But unlike creation and extinction of file with information or of entire database, when each object is changed, added problem will come like change of raw data and of updating date. So it is necessary that history data about creation, change and extinction of spatial data and attribute data have to be chosen and managed. In this study, we analyze operations of updating system of digital map using as-built drawings, and suggest the history database system.

A Study on Climate Characteristics of Waterfront in Busan Area (부산지역 워터프런트의 기후특성에 관한 연구)

  • The waterfront has distinct climate characteristics different from urban or inland area. These may create not only the rise of energy and maintenance costs for facilities located at waterfront areas, but also the negative effects on the climate of the nearby inland area, unless these are treated with particular care. For the present study, the climate characteristics of waterfront were examined with climate data of 10 observation points carefully selected in Busan area. Each weather observation point was classified into either waterfront area of inland area, based on the distance from the coastal line. Special considerations were given to the climate data gathered at the Dae-Yeon weather station because it shows the climate characteristics similar to those of inland area, although it is located very near the waterfront area. Results indicates that this peculiar climate condition attributes, at least in part, to the reclamation of frontal coastal area.

  • 현재 하천 건천화에 따른 수생태계 교란 및 수질악화 등의 근본적인 문제가 발생하고 있으며, 최근 정부의 저탄소 녹색성장기조에 따라 조성되고 있는 신도시, 소규모 및 대규모 택지개발사업의 경우는 환경 친화적인 단지조성 요구에 부응하기 위해 기존 도심하천의 복원 및 인공하천의 녹색성장을 고려한 친환경적 생태하천으로 조성하고자 하는 다양한 노력이 시도되고 있으나 안정적인 생태복원의 수원확보 방안을 마련하지 못해 실제 설계가 반영되지 못하고 있다. 또한, 조성하고자 하는 소하천 혹은 실개울 등의 수질보전 및 생태계 보호 등 하천이 본래의 기능을 유지할 수 있도록 생태하천유량을 확보하는 다양한 기술들이 개발되어 있지만, 공사 유형과 주변 환경에 적합한 생태하천유량 확보 방안을 선정할 수 있는 비구조적 대책마련이 부족한 실정이다. 이러한 실정과 문제점을 고려해 볼 때, 조성하고자 하는 도시 내 자연하천 및 인공하천 조성 등 수변환경을 고려한 단지조성에 맞는 생태하천유량 확보 방안 및 평가에 대한 연구가 단계적으로 이루어져야 할 것이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 생태하천유량 확보와 하천수질 개선이 필요한 특정 지역 또는 다양한 유형의 공사 지구 내 하천이 정상적인 기능을 수행할 수 있도록 적용 가능한 생태하천유량 확보 방안들과 수리해석 모델인 HEC-RAS(River Analysis System), 생태하천유량 산정 모델인 PHABSIM(Physical HABitat SIMulation)을 연계한 물리서식처 평가 모듈을 개발하고, 이를 기초로 가중치부여매트릭스 평가(국토해양부, 2006) 기법을 적용한 최적의 생태하천유량 확보 방안과 수질개선 방안을 제시해 줄 수 있는 의사결정지원 시스템을 구축 하고자 한다. 본 연구에서 개발된 최적의 생태하천유량 확보 방안 도출을 위한 의사결정지원 시스템의 활용으로 필요유량은 물론, 기준을 만족하는 수질의 확보가 절실히 요구되는 중 소규모 하천에 실질적으로 적정수질의 생태하천유량을 확보함으로서 하천으로서의 역할을 위한 본 기능의 회복과 동시에 소하천, 도심하천 및 인공하천 등 중 소규모 수계의 수문순환을 정상화하여 하천의 지속 가능한 개발과 관리가 효율적으로 이루어지도록 하는데 이용될 수 있을 것으로 예상되어진다.
