Study of DMT Localization & Business Operation System Development (한국형 DMT 사업운영시스템 개발에 관한 연구)

  • Improvement of transport system is necessary to advance the freight traffic meanwhile logistics are getting bigger and faster by worldwide tendency. The link between each transportations occurs bottleneck state and it raises the necessity of non-stop mixed transport system which can reduce the cost of logistics. DMT(Dual Mode Trailer) was designed to use road and railway at the same time for door to door service. It is called DMT for every transport system which can connect between road and railway in Korea. This study would like to examine the present condition of promotion for localization of DMT which is new idea and technology and suggest the new subjects from now.

A Study on Railroad Yard Reform for Vitalizing Freight Movement by Railroad: Focused on the Introduction of Piggy Back System (철도물류 활성화를 위한 철도정거장 개량 연구: 피기백(Piggy Back)시스템 도입을 중심으로)

  • There is no question that railroad investment is crucial for better transport systems and the Korean government has continued to invest in railroad facilities. Nevertheless, the modal share of railroad, in particular, for freight has decreased. This is because rail freight transport can hardly meet customer needs such as just-in-time(JIT), a door-to-door service, compared to road transport, to be specific, trucking which can directly carry the freights to the final destinations. This has made the value of the railroad infrastructure less, which has been operated for the past 114 years. This study proposes a new freight movement concept called Piggy Back System. This system can carry freight trucks on the trains and deliver the freights to the final destinations. It can make a door-to-door deliver system possible for railroad transportation, which is the key factor for modal shift from road to railroad. For implementing this, this study proposes three important things: the cost-efficient reforming way of railroad yard that has been used for the past 114 years, the diagram plan of train services, and some technical reviews like clearance limits. This is the first study with practical proposals and solutions on this topic in Korea. The suggestions of this study cut down distribution costs by more than seven trillion won.

  • It is connected with various gauges existing in Euro-Asian continents. Such differences impedes the operation seriously as on the contact of railway tracks of different gauge the cargo must be either transshipped or the running assemblies of rail vehicles must be exchanged. Those operations are costly, time-consuming and require extended infrastructure together with very expensive storage and transshipment facilities at border-crossing point. Moreover, those operations extend transportation time considerably. Therefore, effectiveness of railway transportation systems significantly depends on track gauge change 1435/1520mm, which connects with complicated handling-shifting operations. The paper concerns assessment of effectiveness in strategical rail systems with gauge changing. The paper presents short description of transport system with gauge changing and initial assessment of shifting technologies. Method of system assessment comparison based on Life Cycle Cost model is described here as well.

  • 21세기의 사회적 환경변화는 크게 개도국의 인구증가, 선진국 인구감소, 인구의 노령화(2025년 전세계 인구의 20%가 65세 이상)와 연관된 인구통계의 변화와 경제발전으로 인한 세계화, 도시화(현재 전세계 인구의 45%가 도시지역에 생활하고 있으나, 2025년에는 60%로 증가) 등의 문제가 나타날 것으로 예측되며, 이로 인해 유동인구 및 물동량의 증가로 수송시스템에 대한 수요가 급격하게 증가할 것으로 예상된다. 특히 철도는 안전성, 정시성, 환경친화성, 대량수송성, 경제성 등에 장점을 바탕으로 국가교통의 핵심수단으로 확대되고 있다. 그러나, 미래사회는 각종 재해, 테러 등 다양한 위험원의 증가에 노출되면서, 안전에 대한 사회적 요구도 또한 증대될 것이다.   • Recently the increase in the exchange of goods between Europe and Asia caused by social and economic factors creates good opportunities for railways. At the same time, however, it becomes an enormous challenge for railway transport. There are different rail track gauges (i.e narrow/standard/broad gauge) on the continental transportation between Korea (TKR) and Eurasian (TCR/TSR). The existence of various track gauges is one of obstacles preventing the smooth flow of goods by rail. The transferring process system from one track gauge to another could vary with the types of cargo. Service operation of these systems has a decisive effect on working time and cost of storage and transshipment facilities at border crossings. In relation to the above-mentioned factors, it is important to examine the comparison between different methods of transferring goods in different track gauges. In this study, it was performed to evaluate the effectiveness of continental railway transportation systems through analysis scenarios and to suggest technical factors of them.

Economic Analysis on Transshipment and the Gauge-Adjustable System for Trans-Continental Container Transportation (대륙연계 컨테이너 수송을 위한 환적방식과 궤간가변방식의 경제성 비교)

  • With a view to the commercialization of the Korean automatic variable-gauge bogie in the Eurasia railway system, the aim of this research was to perform an economic analysis concerning the possible introduction and operation of this bogie at the present time. For this purpose, we compared the possible types of freight connection service for container transportation, transshipment and the gauge-adjustable system, estimating the total life-cycle cost (LCC) incurred by each system, depending on type and quantity, over the whole process of acquisition, operation, maintenance and disposal. Based on this, we presented a case-by case analysis. Furthermore, in estimating economic feasibility, we analyzed the cost-benefit ratio taking into account not only the objective LCC, but also the reduced time required for the gauge-change and customer convenience. After estimating the LCC and analyzing the cost-benefit ratio of the respective systems, we demonstrated the economic superiority of view of the gauge adjustable system.

  • The logistics industry is growing rapidly with China's economic development in recent years. Particularly, the intermodal freight system is becoming the main issue to reduce the logistic costs under the situation that the quantity of cargo transported between Korea and China is continuously increasing. Shift from road transportation to eco-friendly modes such as rail and coastwise shipping is also increasing. The present study suggests technical aspects related to the implementation of intermodal transport system centered on train ferries between two countries with already employed Chinese infrastructure into consideration. Technical assessment of intermodal train ferry system entails not only the vessels but supporting facilities and technologies as well. Port and rail facilities and operating skills for efficient modal shifting, and their standardization is indispensible to the realization of an intermodal train ferry system between the two countries.

  • 본 논문에서는 우편사업의 효율적 운영을 위해 추진중인 우편집중국의 건설과 관련하여 기존에 발표된 우편집중국의 건설에 관한 연구보고서 등을 통해서 우편집중국의 운영에 관한 연구 둥을 분석한다. 또한, 우편집중국간의 우편수송경로결정 의사결정지원 시스템을 개발하기 위해 우편물 수송모델을 수송수단에 따른 복수계층 네트워크(Multi layer network)로 구성하여, 이를 다품목네트워크 흐름문제로 수송모델을 정의하고, 정수선형계획문제로 정식화하여 최적화 S/W LINGO를 이용하여 구한 해의 결과를 분석하여 향후 우편수송경로결정을 위한 의사결정지원시스템의 기본으로 활용하고자 한다.

A Study on the Evaluation of Economic Benefit for Railway Transshipment System with Non-Powered Turntable (무동력 회전장치를 이용한 철도환적시스템의 경제성 평가에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this paper is to estimate economic benefits for the investment of railway transshipment system with non-powered turntable. The freight transport by railway can have decided advantages over trucks in terms of energy efficiency, emissions and cost for certain freight movements, just as transportation in the metropolitan region can have great advantages over driving truck. But the freight transport by truck should gain significant mobility benefits from a freight railway system. Thus, the railway transshipment system with non-powered turntable which is coupled railway transport advantages with load transport advantages has been developed and used in the european countries. This research has conducted the empirical analysis, by calculating the investment of railway transshipment system with non-powered turntable. The key factor for the economic benefits for the non-powered turntable is the utilizing throughputs. This demand is influenced by the throughput in the railway transshipment system. The main results of this paper are as follows: railway transshipment system with non-powered turntable does not have economic benefit for investment. We recommend that the plan for investment has to be considered the modification.
