  • This primary study describes the strategies for expanding the railway market to overseas. Therefore, I mainly reviewed and analysed the report of KRRI. Hereafter, I referred to the world railway market analysis, and benchmarked about Japan, France and Germany for high speed rail system of their export strategies to the world. After than, I suggested some measures for expanding strategies through analysing the problems. According to opening the KTX from Seoul to Busan, we have to think what the next step is. Like other countries of developing the high speed rail system, we have to try to export some kinds of system for further technology and industry development.

  • This study focuses on the efforts of rail freight industry in Europe to adapt to the change of freight market. Nearly $80\%$ of freight is transported in short and medium distance market and due to e-commerce the freight becomes small and requires more frequencies than before. Rail freight industry tries to change their operation practices and to create measures to catch the market share. Trials in the two market segments, sea port to/from inland rail terminal and airport to/from inland rail terminal, are reviewed in this study.

  • In this study, market strategies for the HSR's fare system are suggested for successful operation of high speed train opened in April 2004. For price strategies, we suggested HSR's fare system considered competition with other transportation modals are supposed to be charged and some discount-fare policies compared to service distances are needed for the successful operation of high speed train after the train open. In addition, this study concludes that for non-price strategies, various services for customers driving for enough demand can provide the base for stable operation of high speed train in Korea by making balances or profitability.

  • After the establishment of 'Staggers' Rail Legislation' in 1980, which established an atmosphere of free competition in rail freight transportation market, freight railway in America became larger and the proportion of freight railway in the market increased. In 2008, it took up 43% of the transportation market based on tonne/mile unit and the productivity of freight rail increased. On the other hand, in the case of Korea, the competing atmosphere is being set up under the influences of the renovation of the rail transportation industry in 2004. However, to make the rail transportation market more active and become more advanced, a lot of efforts are required to build a stronger foundation of free competition atmosphere. In this paper, we have deducted the political implications on the establishment of strengthened competition in Korean rail transportation industry from reviewing what kind of changes the rail transportation market in America went through and how it was developed. In this case, we have focused on the changes in industrial trend towards the restriction policy. Also influences of the deregulation policy after 1980 on the enhanced market efficiency were reviews.

  • In the early 1990s, the market-orientation attracting a lot of attention as the implementation strategy of marketing is an effort to give customers a value and get sustained earnings in the market. In the previous studies, most of the studies on the market-orientation have focused on hotels, large companies and IT, so it was hard to find the study on railroad in the view of transport service. Thus, this study aimed to find out how marketing activities using transport service and a variety of products linked railroad are shared by group members and what effect the organized union of corporate culture has on business performance as market-orientation activity. Previously, the purpose of this study was to research whether the management system of a private enterprise based on market could be applied to the public enterprise like Korea railroad.

  • Railway is paid attention as a means of environment-friendly transportation and logistics. Efforts to enhance the competitiveness by IT convergence, for railway vehicle market share of the world, has been promoted. This study proposes a technology development plan of railway IT convergence. We analyzed the results of legacy researches and technology patents related with railway IT convergence and derived the target tasks in accordance with our technologies classification. By adopting the multi-attributes utility theory methodology and using survey of experts, we selected the core research issues. The result of this study could help policy making and R&D planning about railway IT convergence.

  • Reliance on road transport in domestic logistics can lead to intensified congestion and greenhouse gas emissions due to the rise in oil prices, any increase in logistics costs can have a high social cost. The government policy on Low Carbon Green Growth is seeking to take advantage of the railway system. However, existing railway transport logistics systems, for reasons such as low speed, low track capacity constraints, and the impossibility of implementing a Door to Door system, make it difficult to activate a railway logistics program. As a result of this study, a national R&D project to develop a High-Speed Passenger/Baggage Mixed Train(Hy-SoBex) utilizing the rail capacity constraints to overcome the difficulties of linking an air cargo and freight railway logistics system, we propose a variety of service models and select the optimal service model.

  • This study started with questioning the fact that in the assessmentof technology, which has taken place every two years since 2010, the technology gap in the most technologically advanced countries was evaluated as 4-5 years in each evaluation. To interrogate this question, regression estimation was performed using the Gompertz model based on time series data for technology level evaluation. As a result, it would take 17 years for high-speed rail vehicle technology to reach the level of 95 % of the country with the highest technology, and 72 years to reach the level of 100 %. Recognizing the technology gap is important in establishing a technology catchup strategy. A collaborative technology catchup strategy is the best strategy for moving to an original technology development stage while competing with large global leaders without much domestic market demand. This can occur regardless of where Korea is located in the technology catchup stage.
