Korea's new high-speed train opened for business on April 1, 2004. This paper examines the passenger demand variation between major train stops on Kyung-Bu corridor. The analysis scrutinized the demand transition and market responses by the opening of KTX. Demand analysis is subcategorized with routes and train classes. The study used the data from the survey between January 2003 and August 2004 and the route sections were between major trains stops including Seoul, Cheonan, Daejeon, Daegu and Busan on Kyung-Bu corridor.

본 논문은 TGV 개발을 중심으로 한 프랑스 철도정책 공동체의 정치, 사회, 경제적 배경과 정책결정자, 정책의 추진과정 및 설득과정을 분석함으로써 1960년대 이후 프랑스 공공정책 분야에서 급속하게 발달하게된 자유주의적 개혁을 설명함을 목표로 하고 있다. 프랑스 국영철도(SNCF)는 2차 대전이후 국민경제의 재건을 목표로 한 정부의 적극적인 지원하에 기술 및 생산성에서 세계적인 기록들을 수립했으나 민간부문의 교통수단들과의 경쟁에 직면해 경영의 어려움을 겪게 되었다. 이에 정부는 철도부문에 민간의 경영방식을 도입하고 적극적인 시장의 재탈환에 나서도록 이니셔티브를 부여함으로써 SNCF로 하여금 고속철도 기술을 개발하도록 이끌게 되었다. 나아가 이 과정에서 나타난 정책결정 구조와 정책의 설득과정에 대한 분석은 프랑스 철도정책 공동체의 특수성을 이해하게 해 줄 것이다.

21세기 무한경쟁시대에 대비하여 국가산업의 경쟁력제고는 물론 지역의 균형발전을 위해 추진하고 있는 경부고속철도 건설사업은 2004년 4월 개통을 목표로 마무리 단계에 접어들었다. 경부고속철도 건설사업을 통하여 우수하고 완벽한 성능의 고속열차도입과 함께 첨단기술을 이전받아 기술수준을 향상시켰고 G7 연구개발 사업으로 시속 350Km급의 차세대 차량을 설계, 제작할수 있는 능력을 보유하게 되었다. 철도는 육로 교통수단과 달리 시스템적 특성이 매우 강하다. 즉 토목, 건축, 기계, 전기, 전자 등 각 분야의 균등한 기술발전을 도모하여야 철도선진국에 진입할 수 있으며 해외 진출이 가능하다. 사업 추진과정에서 습득한 각종 기술은 향후 건설사업의 독자적 추진을 가능케 하였으며, 철도차량의 제작사뿐만 아니라 부품업체가 해외시장을 개척할 수 있는 능력을 갖추어 철도 선진국으로 도약할 수 있는 기틀을 마련하였다.

The governments of Korea, China, and Japan have operated comprehensive research institutes for railway technologies. Korea Railroad Research Institute (KRRI), China Academy of Railway Sciences Corporation Limited (CARS), and Railway Technical Research Institute (RTRI) are representatives of comprehensive railway research institutes in each country. KRRI was found to be the most advanced in the quantitative competitiveness of patents. In terms of qualitative competitiveness, KRRI has strength in civil engineering, whereas RTRI has strength in electricity. KRRI was found to have the greatest efforts in securing competitiveness in overseas property rights. By comparing the publication of papers, CARS published the most papers. On the other hand, from 2015, KRRI showed an upward trend and published the most papers. By examining the impact of the papers by the citation, KRRI was found to have higher competitiveness than the other two institutions. In the future, it will be necessary to perform big data analysis on patents and papers of the three organizations, derive the key research areas and promising technology areas for each institute, and establish a mid-to-long-term development plan for railway technology based on scientific evidence.

This study discusses the worldwide railroad related market survey and its analysis. World market of railroad is expected to grow by $4\%$ annually in 2006 and 42 billion euros in total. Europe takes $39\%$ of market and Asia/Australia do $30\%$. It is about $50\%$ of market those Alstom, Bombardier, and Simens take. Important current market trends are Globalization, Concentration, Standardization, Innovation and WTO. To encourage making inroads into world market, both railroad related companies and government make great efforts to increase efficiency and reliability

This study is to investigate what are major determinants to decide the level of HSR(High-Speed Railroad)'s fare rate in Korea. The study suggests that for the independent operation of the HSR, the fare rate be charged based on the profitability and for the increase in the demand, various discount programs be needed. In addition, in order to operate HSR independently, the HSR fare rate must be charged in the deregulation of the government.

The Korean government, as of last year, is attempting to introduce a competitive system in the rail-market. However there are some pertinent issues which need to be addressed in order to select the best possible organization for optimum railway traffic control. As there are no standard guidelines in selecting an agency, objective evaluation factors need to be properly applied to ensure the best possible decision is made. Through literature review and various interviews with experts, appropriate criteria were selected to evaluate the suitability of each potential operator. As generally mentioned, both safety and efficiency play vital roles in the selection process but in addition, there are other factors such as security and fairness, which also need to be considered. The individual weight of these factors were calculated by the AHP, in which three groups of experts were interviewed to acquire their expertise. According to the results, as a potential operator, the score of a railway operating company and the management cooperation of railway is 2.75 and 3.85, respectively. In the future, in preparation towards becoming a competitive rail-market, this research is expected to assist in choosing the best party to control the rail traffic system.

Japanese railroad companies continued growing by developing diversification based on a railroad enterprise. However, after entering in the 1990s, the diversification model of a railroad company reached the management limit. Under economic depression, A decrease in the birthrate and aging progressed and passenger transport changed to the downward tendency. Nevertheless, since railroad investment was expanded, railroad achievements got worse and price competitiveness with JR East Japan became weak. But the achievements of a diversification section got worse compared with the railroad enterprise. Therefore, group management was thought as important and enterprise reorganization was developed.

It is estimated that the potential of Chinese market is infinite. The success of Chinese economic reformation is generating the high economic growth in China. China is a rising logistics market as its growing throughput and port expansion but China's railway transportation system is not well-linked with ports. China built TCR(Trans-China Railway) which is across the Chinese territory and connected to as far as Europe. With this mode, it is possible to place more overseas freight and meet more customers' needs. Lian yun gang is a city on the East coast of China where the commencing station of TCR is located. This paper reviews the present conditions of Lianyungang and presents the development direction of the city to become a logistics point.
