  • The structures to be demolished have become diverse in types from reinforced concrete to steel. The demand for demolition of steel structures is recently increasing in Korea. Most of flexible linear-shaped charges for steel demolition are now imported from foreign countries. To determine the optimum parameters of design far domestic development of flexible linear-shaped charges, some basic experiments have been carried out and their results are summarized as follows; Copper is shown to be superior to aluminium and lead as a liner material. It is also proved that the optimum apex angle of liner is 90$^{\circ}$ in comparision with 45$^{\circ}$, 60$^{\circ}$ and 120$^{\circ}$ Adequate thickness of liners, standoff distance in terms of quantity of explosives are also examined. Explosives and liners are required to be plasticized in order to improve the bond between explosives and various shapes of steel structures.

  • The seismic control effect of reinforced concrete structures with low energy dissipating capacity due to stiffness degradation is investigated through nonlinear time history analysis. The primary structure is idealized as a SDOF system of modified Takeda hysteresis rule and an elasto-perfectly-plastic nonlinear spring is added to represent a hysteretic damping device. Based on statistics of the numerical analysis, equivalent linearization techniques are evaluated, and empirical equations for response prediction are proposed. As a result, estimation of the ductility demand with proposed empirical equations is more desirable than the equivalent linearization techniques. The optimal yield strengths based on empirical equations are significantly different from the optimal yield strength of elasto-perfectly-plastic systems. Also, the results indicate that the reduction effect of the ductility demand is more remarkable for smaller natural periods.

  • This paper presents an experimental study on the flexural performance of concrete members strengthened with external steel plates for the purpose of improving seismic performance. In order to strengthen the structure, a strengthening method was applied that wraps the walls and columns with steel members. The partial section of the wall with the longest span in the structure was manufactured in real size and the strengthening effect was confirmed by performing a static load test. As a result of the experiment, it was confirmed that the strengthened section exhibited sufficient flexural performance satisfied to the seismic requirements, but the behavior until failure was not obtained because of actuator capacity. It was confirmed that the strengthened member resists the out-of-plane moment with a composite behavior. It was verified that the stiffness and load carrying capacity of the strengthened member were improved compared to the non-strengthened member by displacement and strain measurements.

  • Recently, the durability of concrete structures has received great attention as the number of sea-side structures, such as new airport, bridges, and nuclear power plants, increases continuously. In this regards, many studies have been done on the chloride attack in concrete structures. However, those studies were confined mostly to the single deterioration due to chloride only, although actual environment is rather of combined type. The purpose of the present study is, therefore, to explore the effects of combined deterioration due to chlorides and sulfates in concrete structures. To this end, comprehensive experimental program has been set up to observe the chloride penetration behavior for various test series. The test results indicate that the chloride penetration is more pronounced for the case of combined attack than the case of single chloride attack. The surface chloride content is found to increase with time and the diffusion coefficient for chloride is found to decrease with time. The prediction equations for surface chloride content and diffusion coefficient were proposed according to test results. The equations for chloride penetration considering the time-dependent diffusion coefficients and surface chlorides were also suggested. The present study allows more realistic assessment of durability for such concrete structures which are subjected to combined attacks of chlorides and high concentration sulfates but the future studies for combined environment will assure the precise assessment.

  • Even though the cost associated with the repair and rehabilitation of existing structures are rapidly increasing, vast number of the repaired and rehabilitated structures do not function properly as expected during their remaining service lives. This paper focused on the flexural behavior of reinforced concrete slabs repaired and reinforced by PS strand and polymer mortar in the tension face. The slabs have the size of 700${\times}120{\times}$2200 m and 700${\times}120{\times}$1300 mm. Variables of experiment were space of strengthening, chipping, the number of strand, the kind of mortar in this experimental study. Attention is concentrated upon overall bending capacity, deflection, ductility and failure mode of repaired and reinforced slabs. Test results show that deflection of repaired and reinforced slabs reduced to approximately $40 \%$ comparison to standard slabs. Boundary cracking of chipping slab started ultimate load afterward. Concrete-mortar interface cracked 64.5 kN in repaired slab with AP mortar and 36.0 kN in repaired slab with general polymer mortar. Reinforcement effect increased with reducing space of strand. Also, Reinforcement effects are more by strand than by polymer mortar.

  • An underwater structure is made to put with serious damage state by special environmental factors. If this damage phenomena persist, as for the structure, it is generated a structural serious problem because of the corrosion of a reinforcing bar and the loss of the concrete cut end. Repair work of an underwater structure is very harder than repair work in land, and it is actual that certification about a maintenance effect is uncertain. And the existing repair method is applied to a structure damaged with you without verification of a repair effect by a foreign reward and experience. In this study, a repair method about an underwater structure was proposed and observed a behavior characteristic and interface failure of an specimens. and comparison analyzed an effect of a proposed maintenance method.

  • Internal factors having effects on compressive strength test results of concrete include size, shape, height-diameter ratio(h/d), section processing method, dryness and wetness, etc. of the specimen. As it is difficult to ensure dimensions of core specimen due to rebar cutting from rebar spacing, wall thickness, effects on the structure, etc. when taking core of the concrete structure, correction of dimensions and h/d of the specimen become important for quality control of the concrete. Thus, in order to review effects of specimen size and height-diameter ratio for the concretes with compressive strength within 40~60MPa, this study has experimentally reviewed compressive strength test values by applying correction factors pursuant to KS F 2422 (Method of obtaining and testing drilled cores and sawed beams of concrete), when changing specimen diameter to ${\emptyset}5{\sim}15cm$, and h/d to 2.0~1.25.

  • In this study, a double wall system is introduced, which was invented to simplify the complicated manufacturing process of the existing precast concrete (PC) double wall systems and to remove defects such as laitance that may occur during the production of concrete panels. An experimental study was conducted to investigate the tensile resisting capacity of the steel tube which is embedded in the precast concrete panel to keep the spacing between PC panels and to prevent damage of the PC panels during transportation and casting concrete onsite. The experiment was planned to determine the detail of effective steel tube connection considering the steel plate treatment method according to the formation of the opening, the presence of embedded concrete, and the reinforcement welding for additional dowel action as key variables. As a result, the ultimate tensile strength increased by 20-30% compared to the control specimen (ST) except for the steel tube specimen (ST_CP) which has steel plates bent inward at the end part of the steel tube. Since the specimen (ST_CON) filled with concrete inside the control specimen has no additional process and cost for the steel tube connections compared to the control specimen during the production of the developed double wall system, it is determined to be the appropriate detail of steel tube connection.

  • The parameters describing a complete hysteresis loop include pinch force, drift offset, effective stiffness, unloading and reloading trangential stiffness. Analytical equations proposed to quantify the nonlinear, inelastic behavior of reinforced shear walls can be used to predict these parameters as a function of axial load and drift ratio. For example, drift offset, effective stiffness, and first and second unloading and reloading tangential stiffness are calculated using equations obtained from test data for a desired drift ratio or ductility level. Pinch force can also be estimated for a given drift ratio and axial load. The effective virgin stiffness at the first yield and its post yield reduction can be estimated. The load deflection response of flexural reinforced concrete shear walls can now be estimated based on the effective wall stiffness that is a function of axial force and drift ratio.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the flexural behavior of square concrete filled carbon tube (CFCT) columns subjected to constant axial load with the cyclic lateral load. Two parameters, wnding angle and thickness of tube, were chosen to evaluate the flexural capacity and behavior of rectangular CFCT columns. Selected two parameters were considered simultaneously in order to evaluate the flexural behavior of a rectangular CFCT columns more precisely. Flexural strength, deformation capacity, ductility and energy dissipation capacity of rectangular CFCT columns were evaluated by calculating the area of load-displacement envelope curves and load-dispalcement hysteresis curves obtained from experiment. Also, the ductile capacity obtained from experiment was compared to that of reinforced masonry wall for the comparison of existing structural element.
