  • This paper presents the appropriateness for using high strength reinforcement according to the use of high strength concrete. Nine flexural tests were conducted on full-scale beam specimens according to the concrete strength, reinforcement strength and reinforcement ratio as main variable. The structural behavior was analyzed due to the flexural strength, stress-strain curve, deflections at yielding and fracture point, crack appearance and ductility factor. The member with high-strength reinforcements showed large deflection at yielding point and this was analyzed as a main cause to decrease the ductility factor. Structural behavior after yielding point, however, showed similarity to behavior of members with normal strength reinforcements of same stiffness. It was found that in the case of using reinforcements of $5500kgf/cm^2$ strength, the combination with concrete of $800kgf/cm^2$ strength demonstrated the great appropriateness which can increase the flexural capacity without any reduction of maximum reinforcement ratio.

  • This paper presents a nonlinear finite element analysis procedure for the performance assessment of deteriorated reinforced concrete bridge columns. A computer program, named RCAHEST (Reinforced Concrete Analysis in Higher Evaluation System Technology), was used to analyze these reinforced concrete structures. Material nonlinearity is taken into account by comprising tensile, compressive and shear models of cracked concrete and a model of reinforcing steel. Advanced deteriorated material models are developed to predict behaviors of deteriorated reinforced concrete bridge columns. The proposed numerical method for the performance of damaged reinforced concrete bridge columns is verified by comparison with reliable experimental results.

  • This paper proposes equations for balanced-steel ratio to predict the failure types in reinforced concrete beams under pure torsion. Equations are theoretically derived using a space truss model and considering a softening effect which reduces the strength of concrete due to the diagonal crack. To investigate the validity of the proposed equations, experiments were conducted with 13 specimens. Corre¬lation between predicted failure types by balanced - steel ratio and the experimental results in the literature was good. but not for beams tested in this paper.

  • Many losses of life and extensive damage of social infrastructures have occurred due to moderate and strong earthquakes all over the world. In this research various design parameters have been evaluated to develop a rational seismic design code of rectangular reinforced concrete(RC) bridge piers. It was confirmed from this study that the axial force ratio and longitudinal steel ratio were most influencing design parameters on the seismic displacement ductility from experimental results of 54 rectangular RC bridge piers, which were tested at domestic and foregin countries. However, these important parameters are not considered in the confinement steel ratio of Korea Highway Bridge Design Specification(KHBDS). The objective of this study is to propose a rational design provision for the transverse reinforcement of rectangular RC bridge piers. New confinement steel ratio is proposed by reflecting the effect of the axial force and longitudinal steel into the current code of KHBDS. furthermore, minimum transverse confinement steel ratio is also proposed to avoid a probable buckling of longitudinal reinforcing steels of RC bridge piers with a relatively low axial force. New practical code can alleviate the rebar congestion in the plastic hinge region of RC bridge pier, which contributes to construct RC bridge piers in a simple and economic way.

  • The steel design based on the width of transverse crack which is the major factor to affect a long-term performance of continuously reinforced concrete pavement was developed. For this study, twenty-one cities of Texas were selected and the temperature data was collected at those locations during the past ten years. From the data, zero-stress temperatures were calculated by the PavePro program and the widths of transverse crack were analyzed by the CRCP program. The variables used to this numerical analysis were slab thickness, coefficient of thermal expansion of concrete, steel ratio, and design temperature. The total of 448 factorial runs were made and the regression analysis was performed using the results. Steel ratios from the regression equations were backcalculated and a steel design table was proposed.

  • This paper concerns the flexural capacity of reinforced concrete beams with ultra-high performance cementitious composites(UHPCC). It was investigated if the existing equations to estimate the flexural capacity of reinforced fiberous concrete beams are applicable with the experiments including lightly reinforced concrete beams. The reinforcing effect when the steel fiber reinforced concrete was used in beams was also estimated. The results showed that the equation to predict the flexural capacity of reinforced steel fiber concrete by ACI 544 committee didn't have a good agreement with the test results and underestimated the flexural capacity in especially lightly reinforced beams with under 1.5% reinforcement ratio. the enhancement of flexural capacity was quite considerable in lightly reinforced beams when the steel fiber reinforced concrete was used. A equation to predict the reinforcing effect of steel fiber in reinforced steel fiber beams was developed. the equation was proposed as a function of both the characteristics of steel fiber and reinforcement ratio.

The paper is : nonlinear constitutive relations of reinforced concrete columns are formulated, the multivariable nonlinear equation formulated in this study is solved by the incremental iterative method, the solution scheme is suitable for computer application, the proposed method bas been compared with the numerical examples and other research results and is shown to be in good agreement Accordingly, the objectives of this investigation are to use the method developed to conduct a parametric study of the different variable (Rotational Restraints,Ratio of End Restraints. End Eccentricity, Ratio of End Eccentricities,Lateral Restraint, Concrete Strength, Ratio of Reinforcement. Yield Point of Reinforcement) influencing the behavior and the ultimate strength for columns. Chosen values for different parameters and their variations are based on values encountered in practice and on results of other analylitical studies.

  • The use of FRP(Fiber Reinforced Polymer) bars to replace conventional steel bars in reinforcing concrete structures is currently encouraged by many structural engineers, especially for their noncorrosive properties. The partial inferiority of the bond and mechanical properties for FRP bars, however, leads to wider and deeper cracks compared with those of steel reinforced concrete structures. This paper presents experimental results of concrete beams reinforced with FRP bars tested under static loading conditions up to failure. The study focuses on the effects of the reinforcement ratio on the behavior of concrete beams at various stages during loading. The study also attempts to establish a theoretical basis for the development of simple and rational design procedures for concrete beams reinforced with FRP bars.
