In this study, we measured shielding block correction factors for irregular fields and compared them with published data for the square blocked field. We devised a methods to measure the factors at an arbitrary depth in phantom. The measurements were performed for 12 shielding blocks used in radiation therapy. The measured correction factors for irregular blocked fields were consistent within $\pm$0.5% with those of the square blocked fields. Our results show that the shielding block correction factors for the typical square blocked fields can be used in clinical dose calculations for irregular blocked fields. However, for small fields, we suggest that verification be done by measurement.
This paper describes a detailed investigational performance on the gamma radiation shield effect of heavy concretes that were manufactured by the use of mineral ores produced domestically and which may be possibly applied for the biological shield design. Ten different kinds of mineral ores were collected for use as the aggregates, physical test and chemical analysis for them were carried out to select the aggregate with a better property. Through the experimental investigation on the shielding effect of various concretes with different combination of concrete components such as water-cement and fine-coarse aggregate ratios, it was possible to derive some criteria for the best condition being capable of obtaining the concretes with high density and good uniformity. Data on the shielding-effectiveness of the different concretes were obtained by performing collimated beam experiment using 60Co gamma-ray. Analyzing the shielding-efficiency, shielding-concrete specific gravity and biological shield cost, the optimum condition of yielding the best economic shielding design, with low cost and good spatial distribution to some extent was determined.
Recently, radiation shielding sheets made of eco-friendly materials have been widely used in medical institutions. The shielding sheet is processed into a solid form by thermoforming by mixing a shielding material with a polymer material. The base is resin-based and has a limit in tensile strength, and for this purpose, fibers such as non-woven fabrics are used on the surface. The shielding sheet process technology has a problem in that the tensile strength rapidly decreases when the content of the shielding material is increased to increase the shielding performance. In order to improve this, this study intends to compare and evaluate the method of laminating and coating the fibers in the sheet process. In comparison of the three types of sheets, there was no difference in shielding performance between the fiber-coated sheet and the compression sheet, but there was a large difference in tensile strength.

In this paper, the magnetically shielded room for low magnetic field shielding is designed and measured by fabricated. The size of magnetically shielded room was 3.0[m](W)$\times$3.0[m](L)$\times$3.0[m](H) to enter the industrial measuring instruments and analyzed DC and AC shielding characteristics of magnetic materials with a high permeability and AC shielding characteristics by eddy current of conductive materials. As a results, shielded room dimensions were obtained. To verify the analysis results, magnetically shielded room is fabricated and the calculated results are compared with the measured results. The Measured results show good agreement with calculated results. According to measurements, 5 times of 0.1[Hz] and 86 times of 60[Hz] is achieved at low frequency. The fabricated shielding room can be used as the magnetically shielding room for low magnetic field shielding.
Radiation shielding of affinity material, which is widely used in medical institutions, is made in sheet form and is mainly applied to apron. Shielding performance is presented based on lead equivalent, and is presented as 0.25-0.50mmPb. In the case of shielding materials where lead is used as the main material, the shielding performance can be adjusted by thickness due to the excellent machinability of lead. However, eco-friendly shielding sheets are difficult to control shielding performance based on thickness criteria as shielding performance varies depending on the content of shielding materials, the properties of polymeric materials that are base materials, and the technical differences in the process. In this study, shielding sheets were manufactured based on thickness to solve these problems and the shielding performance was compared in this study. As a result, it was shown that the laminated structure shielding sheet was more effective.
While the shielding substances of radiation shields in medical institutions are beginning to be replaced by environmentally friendly materials, radiation protection according to the shielding properties of environmentally friendly substances is becoming an important factor rather than the existing lead shielding properties. Tungsten and barium sulfate are representative shielding materials similar to lead, and are made in sheets or fiber form with eco-friendly materials. Ytterbium is an impermeable material used as a fluorine compound in the dental radiation field. This study aims to evaluate the shielding performance in the x-ray shielding area by comparing the shielding properties of ytterbium by energy band and that of existing eco-friendly materials. When three types of shielding sheets were fabricated and tested under the same process conditions, the shielding performance of the medical radiation area was about 5 % difference from tungsten. Furthermore, shielding performance was superior to barium sulfate. In the cross-sectional structure of the shielding sheet, there was a disadvantage that the arrangement of particles was not uniform. Ytterbium oxide showed sufficient potential as a medical radiation shielding material, and it is thought that it can improve the shielding performance by controlling the particle arrangement structure and particle size.
The purpose of this study is to derive a lead thickness calculation formula for direct-shielded doors based on NCRP Report No.151 and IAEA Safety Report Series N0.47. After deriving the dose rate calculation formula for the direct shielded door, this formula was substituted for the lead shielding thickness calculation formula to derive the shielding thickness calculation formula at the door. The lead shielding thickness calculated from the derived direct shielded door shielding thickness calculation formula was about 6% lower than that calculated by the NCRP and IAEA secondary barrier shielding thickness calculation methods. This result is interpreted as meaning that the thickness calculation is more conservative from the NCRP and IAEA secondary barrier shielding thickness calculation methods and fits well for secondary beam shielding. In conclusion, it is thought that the formula for calculating lead shielding thickness of the direct shielded door derived in this study can be usefully used in the shield design of the door.
