Numerical analysis for development of vehicle engine room cooling hood (차량 엔진룸 냉각용 후드 개발을 위한 수치해석)

  • This study deals with the numerical analysis for hood development to improve the cooling effect of the engine related components in engine room. Reducing the component temperature in engine room caused by a sudden temperature deviation can minimize the durability degradation of components. Therefore, in this study, numerical analysis for the development of the hood in engine room was carried out in four parts such as generator, battery, ECU and power steel oil which are relatively easy to control temperature among the main components in engine room. In order to verify the numerical analysis, experiments were conducted under the same conditions as those assumed in the numerical analysis.

  • To achieve the weight reduction of a vehicle, Magnesium alloys are widely used in automobile parts because of its lightweight characteristics. Magnesium alloys also have advantages in recycling, stiffness, NVH , heat protection. But Magnesium alloy parts are mainly manufactured by diecasting processes, their productivity was not so high compared to by sheet metal working. We are developing vehicle hood using magnesium sheets. In this study we designed magnesium alloy hood which have equivalent mechanical characteristics to steel hood. Using finite element method we decided thickness of magnesium sheets under some design requirements and we changed the shape of hood inner panel and hinge reinforcements. Outer and inner panel thickness was 1.3mm, 1.5mm respectively. Panel dentibility analysis was performed to conform the new magnesium design by nonlinear FEM package. Formability and hemming of Magnesium sheets are the subjects for further study because they have poor stretchability compared to steel sheets.

Design Analysis and Derivation of Experimental Equations of Hood Frame for Vehicle (차량 후드 작동용 프레임의 설계해석 및 실험식 유도)

  • This paper presents the experimental result and theoretical analysis result to investigate the correlation between the operating force and locking torque for vehicle hood frame. Also, we derived the experimental equations that using the results of experiment and theory. The hood frame is switching-devices used for opening and closing the vehicle hood. It needs the correlation data between locking torques of each joint and operating force of hood frame because the parameters affects the emotional quality of the vehicle. The correlation data for torque and force of hood frame obtained through experiment and theory analysis. Finally, two experimental equations of correlation are derived. Thus, the developed equations show that has high usefulness for the basic design of hood frame of vehicle.
