Development of Comprehensive Evaluation Index for In-vehicle Warning Information Systems (혼합가중치기반 차내 경고정보시스템 통합평가지표 개발)

  • In-vehicle warning information systems(IWIS) is an effective countermeasure for preventing traffic crashes. It provides drivers with warnng messages about upcoming hazards to draw proper evasive maneuvering. This study developed a methodology for evaluating the effectiveness of IWIS based on an integrated index to identify driver's responsive behavior. The proposed index consists of characteristics of longitudinal and lateral behavior of vehicle maneuverings. Also, a method to assign mixed-weights in the context of multi-criteria decision making framework was adopted to develop the evaluation method. It is expected that the outcome of this study is useful in designing more effective in-vehicle warning information systems.

Stated Preference Analysis of the Impacts of Bus Crowdedness Information on Bus Choice (선호의식 조사를 통한 버스 차내 혼잡도 정보제공이 버스선택에 미치는 영향 분석)

  • The study proposed a new type of bus information, Real-time Bus Crowdedness (RBC) information, to meet various demands of users and improve the convenience level of using public transportation, while existing bus information provided by bus information systems(BIS) were limited to bus operating information such as predicted bus arrival time. To analyze the impacts of providing the proposed RBC information, stated preference(SP) survey was performed and a methodology of disaggregate analysis (e.g., binary logit) was applied to develop passenger choice models. Additionally, passenger choice models incorporating the heterogeneity of different user groups(i.e., by age or trip purposes) were developed to evaluate the different responses on RBC information. The results showed that providing RBC information was significantly related to users' bus choices and the responses of user groups were significantly different, especially the age group of more then 60 was most affected by the RBC information on their bus choices. Also trip purposes were significantly related to users' bus choices, for instance the impacts of providing RBC information was bigger for non-business trips(leisure/meet friend/personal business, shopping, hospital) compared to business trip.

  • The objective of this study is to develop a methodology for evaluating the effectiveness of in-vehicle pedestrian warning systems. Driving Simulator-based experiments were conducted to collect data to represent driver's responsive behavior. The braking frequency, lane change duration, and collision speed were used as measure of effectiveness (MOE) to evaluate the effectiveness. Collision speed data obtained from the simulation experiments were further used to predict pedestrian injury severity. Results demonstrated the effectiveness of warning information systems by reducing the pedestrian injury severity. It is expected that the proposed evaluation methodology and outcomes will be useful in developing various vehicular technologies and relevant policies to enhance pedestrian safety.

  • This paper presents the on-vehicle information system that displays the states of the vehicle in brief words instead of symbols. Main functions of this system include a system check function, trip function, warning function, and clock function. With this system, a driver can obtain all sorts of useful information related to various conditions of the vehicle, and if any problem arises in the vehicle, he can recognize it by the displayed words with a warning sound. Also, this system is very helpful for safety driving because it displays whatever a driver wants to have concerning trip information. By experimental test and driving test, the development system shows good results for each function.

  • This paper demonstrates the in-vehicle dilemma zone warning system (DZWS) project developed as a part of the Driver Advisory and Collision Warning System in Automated Vehicle and Highway System (AVHS). The DZWS project, one of the Korea national ITS projects in 2000 develops the in-vehicle warning device to support drivers' decision making on whether to stop or to proceed to clear the intersection prior to the onset of yellow signal for avoiding the high risk of collision at signalized intersections through the dedicated short range communication (DSRC). This paper explores the design of optimal communication systems between roadway and vehicles, the operational and functional concepts of dilemma zone warning system based on appropriate approach speeds, and the system integration for field test at two sites of signalized intersections. Findings from the system integration indicated that the system would be implemented in eliminating the dilemma zone relative to approach speeds and in reducing red light violations and intersection collisions through the in-vehicle warning device at signalized intersection.

  • Collection of invaluable real-time traffic data becomes available under ubiquitous transportation sensor networks (UTSN). Various research efforts have been made to utilize such useful data for deriving more accurate and reliable traffic information. This study presented a novel concept of decentralized traffic information and method to process traffic data which are obtained from inter-vehicle communications under the UTSN. In addition, an experimental evaluation to investigate the feasibility of the proposed method using probe vehicle data. Predictive travel times were estimated and evaluated for the feasibility investigation. Technical issues were derived and discussed to fully implement the proposed system. The outcomes of this study would be used as a guideline in designing better next-generation traffic information systems.

An Implementation of Speech Recognition System for Car's Control (자동차 제어용 음성 인식시스템 구현)

  • In this paper, we propose speech control system for a various control device in the car with real time control speech. A real time speech control system is detected start-end points from speech data processing by A/D conversion, and recognize by one pass dynamic programming method. The results displays a monitor, and transports control data to control interfaces. The HMM model is modeled by a continuous control speech consists of control speech and digit speech for controlling of a various control device in the car The recognition rates is an average 97.3% in case of word & control speech, and is an average 96.3% in case of digit speech.

  • 새로운 세기를 맞이하면서 이제 새삼 IT(Information Technology: 정보기술)가 주목을 받고 있다. 급속한 기세로 세계에 퍼진 인터넷이 정보의 흐름과 ''물건''의 움직임을 크게 바꾸려 하고 있기 때문이다. 외출지나 자동차 등의 이동환경에서도 휴대전화를 통하여 언제든지, 어디서나, 간단하게 인터넷 접속이 가능하게 되어 바야흐로 시간과 공간을 초월한 본격적인 네트워크사회를 맞이하려 하고 있다. 모바일 단말과 정보통신인프라의 발전은 네트워크에 의한 정보취득이나 전자상거래 등의 새로운 정보서비스를 창출하여 라이프사이클의 변화도 일으키고 있다. 한편 자동차를 둘러싼 정보통신환경은 카 내비게이션 등의 차재 정보단말과 함께 발전해가고 있다. FM다중, 광비컨, 전파비컨을 통한 VICS(Cehicle Information and Communication Systems: 도로교통정보통신 시스템)와 휴대전화를 통한 인터넷 접속, 자동차를 위한 정보제공서비스는 이미 실용화되고, 특히 노차간 통신전용 DSRC(Dedicated Short Range Communication: 협성통신)를 통해 유료도로에서 요금을 자동으로 징수하는 ETC(Electronic Toll Collection: 자동요금 징수시스템)의 실용화가 임박하고 있다. 앞으로는 IMT-2000(International Mobile Telecommunications-2000) 차세대휴대전화와 디지털방송서비스 등 보다 더 새로워진 정보통신 고속화$\cdot$고품질화가 기대되고 있으며, 이것들을 조합한 복합미디어에 의해 가까운 장래에는 차내에서도 다양한 정보제공서비스를 받아서 누릴 수 있을 것으로 생각된다.

  • Provision of advanced warning information is one of the useful countermeasures to prevent traffic accidents. Analysis of user's preference for any information contents would be a backbone in designing more effective warning information systems. This study aimed at deriving more comprehensive and valuable warning information that leads to user's safer driving by conducting a questionnaire survey. In total, 258 people including various age groups and driving experiences participated in the survey. Preferable warning information contents were identified by this study. It is expected that the results would be useful data for providing warning information to drivers.

  • 가정에서건 사무실에서건 혹은 이동 중에도 무선 이동 통신, 인터넷, 각종 디지털 기기를 통해 자유롭게 정보를 교환하고 원하는 서비스를 이용할 수 있는 새로운 네트워크 시대가 열리고 있다. 단순한 운송수단이었던 자동차도 무선 통신과 GPS 기술을 바탕으로 차내 이동형 정보서비스를 지원하는 텔레매틱스 서비스를 도입하면서, 도로상에서 다양한 서비스를 이용할 수 있는 환경을 제공하고 있다. 이로 인해 텔레매틱스 서비스를 위한 핵심기술 개발에 대한 수요도 증가하고 있으며, 그 중에서도 사용자 및 차량으로부터의 서비스 요청을 처리하고, 다양한 컨텐츠 제공자 및 서비스 제공자와의 연계를 지원하기 위한 텔레매틱스 서버에 대한 필요성이 증대되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 항법 맵, POI, 실시간 교통정보 등 텔레매틱스 핵심 컨텐츠를 상호 연계하여 이를 사용자에게 효율적으로 서비스하기 위한 텔레매틱스 컨텐츠 서비스 서버를 설계하였다. 이를 통해 향후 텔레매틱스 서비스를 위한 시스템 구축 시 상호운용성과 확장성을 제공함으로써, 국내 텔레매틱스 서비스의 조기 활성화에 기여할 수 있을 것이다.
