  • Recently, the change of mechanical properties and microstructural evolution during severe plastic deformation (SPD), such as Equal Channel Angular Extrusion (ECAE), has been the subject of intensive investigation because of the unique physical and mechanical properties of severely deformed materials. In this study, two types of ECAE processes were considered, dies with intersection angles ${\Phi}$ of $90^{\circ}$ and $120^{\circ}$, using experiments and simulations. The decoupled method, in which the rigid-plastic finite element method is incorporated with the rate-independent crystal plasticity model, was applied to predict the texture evolution in commercially pure aluminum during the ECAE processes with $120^{\circ}$ and $90^{\circ}$ dies. The simulated textures were compared with a measured texture via an EBSD OIM analysis. The comparison showed that the simulated textures generally were in good agreement with the experimentally measured texture.

  • The effect of lubrication on the evolution of strain states during shape rolling in AA5052 sheet was studied by the finite element method (FEM) simulation. The strain states calculated by FEM were verified by texture analysis. Shape rolling with and without lubrication produces shape-rolled samples in fairly similar outer shapes, since the distribution of normal strain components is nearly independent of the lubrication condition. In contrast, the distribution of shear strain components strongly depends on the lubrication condition. Shape rolling without lubrication gives rise to the development of strong shear strain gradients leading to the formation of highly inhomogenous textures and microstructures. The {011}//ND fiber develops during rolling with the operation of plane strain plus ${\dot{\varepsilon}}_{22}$.

  • The Goss texture component of {110}<001> is well known as one of the best texture components to improve the magnetic properties of electrical steel sheets. The small amount of the Goss texture component is obtained at the surface of the steel sheet by shear deformation due to friction between the steel sheet and the roll during conventional symmetric rolling. This study aims to identify a method to obtain high intensity of the Goss texture component not only at the surface but in the whole layer of the steel sheet by shear deformation of asymmetric rolling. Low carbon steel sheets, which have different initial texture, were asymmetrically rolled by about 50%, 70%, and 80%. The pole figures of the top, center, and bottom layers of the initial and asymmetrically rolled low carbon steel sheets were measured by an X-ray diffractometer. Based on the measured pole figures of these samples, the intensities of the main texture components were analyzed for the initial and asymmetrically rolled low carbon steel sheets. As a result, the initial low carbon steel sheet with the γ-fiber component showed a higher intensity of the Goss texture component in the whole layer than the steel sheet with other texture components after asymmetric rolling.

  • After extrusion, cold rolling and T-6 treatment, texture development of 7x1x Al-alloy with 0.1% Sc is studied. During extrusion the very strong <111>+weak <100> fiber texture is developed, which is Influenced on the formation of rolling texture. The texture after 80% cold rolling can be described by strong{112}<111>(Cu)+{123}<634>(S) component in the cross section of the extruded rod, the strong -fiber+weak{110}<001>(Goss) components in the longitudinal section, and the strong {110}<112>(Bs)+weak{001}<100>(Cube) components in the transverse section. The components of rolling texture are remained after T-6 treatment, but the maximum density of ODF is higher. The calculated mean r-values and the planar anisotropy are relatively high, which are dependent on the texture. After T-6 treatment, recrystallized equiaxed grains with average grain size of $1{\sim}2{\mu}m$ are obtained.

  • Development of texture in SiC materials by hot-pressing and subsequent annealing was studied. Crystallographic texture type was characterized by measuring X-ray pole figures on the perpendicular plane to the hot-pressing direction. Observed all pole figures were nearly axially symmetric (fiber texture). In case of ${\beta}$-SiC materials, the pole density of basal plane (0004) increased as annealing time increased, in contrast, other planes (hkil) of ${\beta}$-SiC materials and all planes of ${\alpha}$-SiC materials nearly remained unchanged. In the case of ${\beta}$-SiC materials, therefore, a weak texture of (0001) plane at the normal direction took place in the 8h annealed samples, resulting from grian growth. The fracture toughness values of ${\alpha}$-SiC materials measured in both planes parallel and perpendicular to the hot-pressing direction were very similar. However, the fracture toughness of ${\beta}$-SiC materials measured parallel to the hot-pressing direction were higher than that measured perpendicular to the hot-pressing derection, relatively, because of the texture and the microstructure anisotropy.

  • To investigate the evolution of deformation texture in dual phase (DP) steels during deep-drawing deformation, deep-drawing experiments were performed. Microtexture measurements were conducted using electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD) to analyze texture evolution. A rate-sensitive polycrystal model was used to predict texture evolution during deep-drawing deformation. In order to evaluate the strain path during deep-drawing deformation, a steady state was assumed in the flange part of a deep-drawn cup. A ratesensitive polycrystal model successfully predicted the texture evolution in DP steels during deep-drawing deformation. The final stable orientations were found to be strongly dependent on the initial location in the blank. Texture analysis revealed that the deep drawability of DP steels decreases as the true strain in the radial direction of the deep-drawn cup increases during deep-drawing deformation.

  • This study focuses on the microstructural development of 99% magnesium alloy sheet manufactured using twin roll casting (TRC) process. Herein, a plate with a thickness of 5 mm was manufactured using the TRC process, homogenization heat treatment was performed at 400℃ for 2-32 h, and finally, the change in microstructure was evaluated via optical microscopy and textural analysis. The results suggest that the plate manufactured using the TRC process was not destroyed and was successfully rolled into a plate. Microscopic observation suggested that the dendritic cast structure was arranged along the rolling direction. And the central layer of the rolled plate, where was present in a liquid state at the beginning of rolling, solidified later during the TRC process to form central segregation. The initial cast structure and inhomogeneous structure of the plate were recrystallized by homogenization heat treatment for only 2 h, and it was confirmed that the segregated part of the central layer became homogeneous and recrystallization occurred. Grain growth occurred as the heat treatment time increased, and secondary recrystallization occurred, wherein only some grains were grown. The textural analysis, which was conducted via X-ray diffraction, confirmed that the relatively weak basal plane texture developed using the TRC process was formed into a random texture after heat treatment.

  • Asymmetric rolling, in which the ratio of the rotation rates of the upper and lower rolls was 2, has been used to introduce an intense plastic shear strain for the purpose of grain refinement and developing shear deformation textures through the sheet thickness to improve the strength and plastic strain ratio of AA1050 aluminum alloy sheets. The alloy sheets were rolled at room temperature without lubrication. The textures and microstructures of the sheets were investigated by x-ray diffraction and electron back-scattered diffraction (EBSD) analyses with emphasis on effects of combinations of rot ling directions.

  • Because stellerite, belonging to the zeolite group, is much less common mineral than any other minerals in Korea, little mineralogical study has been done so far. Stellerite occurs on open surfaces of fractured zones in the Yucheon Granite associated with flowery tourmaline, Chongdo, Gyeongsangbuk-do. Stellerite with $3{\sim}4\;mm$ length and $1{\sim}2\;mm$ width is characterized by an equigranular and euhedral form. Flat and elongated columnar crystals show well developed (010) face. Stellerite shows an intensive alteration process, possibly due to weathering or devitrification, as evidenced by microtextural analysis of Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). Water loss occurs at $161^{\circ}C$ while dehydroxylation occurs at $467^{\circ}C$ causing decomposition of the structure afterward. From its textural observation, it is concluded that stellerite formed rapidly at small undercooling, precipitated from residual melt during the late stage with relatively constant chemistry.
