  • Robotics education in elementary school, It is difficult for girls to continue the motivation and willingness to learn because of a negative attitude and low recognition against the machine. In this paper, we studied method to improve the learning attitude through STEAM-based robotics education utilizing storytelling and robot smart learning system for elementary school girls. The curriculum is composed of nine themes which are selected from famous classic fairy tales for girls and we developed robot smart learning system which allows girls to enjoy robot design&control, collaborative learning, and sharing their ideas by using smart-phone. As a t-test results of learning attitude, the two groups showed statistically significant difference, the experimental group was higher average than the control group in terms of learning attitude. The robot smart learning system is effective for collaborative learning activities and maintaining learning motivation of elementary school girls.

  • In this study, we performed experimental studies on the educational programming languages of Dolittle and Robot to compare and analyze their effect on improving creativity. We formed three sixth grade classes, totaling 99 students, into a Robot class, a Dolittle class, and a general class that served as a neutral. The Dolittle class and the Robot class took ten programming lessons with specific hand-in operations, as well as feedback and discussion, during ten weeks. The experiment results showed that student creativity in the two programming classes improved more than that of students in the general class. Especially creativity of the students in the Robot class improved the most. Moreover, the mean creativity of the lower academic achievement group was slightly better than that of the higher group. This implies that there is no positive correlation between academic achievement and creativity.

  • The purpose of this research is to confirm that how the support type of the assistant teacher changes the students' creativity and self-efficacy in the Robot Education, particularly Robot Edu-Camp. The study objects are 72 elementary students for 8 groups; each group has 9 students, and 4 groups of them have the assistant teachers and others are supported by giving some feedbacks for their questions or some information if they need. The assumption of this study sets up as in the following; there are no differences for the students' creativity and self-efficacy between the supporting of the assistant teachers with making robots and programing together and the giving feedbacks and information if students need. To verify this assumption, we use the nonequivalent control group in the pretest-posttest designs. The result is as in the following. There's no meaningful differences of the students' creativity by the support type of the assistant teachers. But in the self-efficacy, the groups which are giving feedbacks and information if they need have more higher level of achievement than others. The result shows that if the assistant teachers help the students directly, the students' levels of the self-direction, and control are low because they lean on the teachers. This will give you some implications to the follow-up studies about the support type of the assistant teachers in the Robot Education.

  • In this study, we selected an educational robot as a suitable tool to support algorithm learning for middle school learners through comparative analysis of various tools. Educational robot can provide tangible experiences for abstract concepts of algorithms. Therefore, we developed an algorithm learning program with educational robots to enhance intrinsic motivation and creative problem solving ability for middle school learners. Also, we implemented the developed program in middle schools and analysed the educational effects of the program. We found that the algorithm learning program with robots was helpful in enhancing learners' intrinsic motivation about algorithm learning and creative problem solving potential. These findings may offer useful direction for designing teaching and learning program for algorithm education. These results can be used as a basis for study on designing and developing algorithm learning program.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out the effects of the use of Chatting Method(with AI Chatting robot: Chatterbot) and Computer Interest Levels on Teaching & Learning. The major findings of the study are as follows. Firstly, the chatting activities using the chatterbot method and computer Interest Levels were not effective in the academic achievement. Secondly, the chatting activities using the chatterbot method and computer Interest Levels were effective in improving the learning motivation. Thirdly, According to the result of post-feedback analysis, the benefits of chatterbot method was 'the new', 'transcends time and space', 'drill and practice learning' and was some of the drawbacks 'response fixed', lack of emotional transactions. and the proposal 'PBL' was reached(1. strength: new experience, 2. weakness: be tired, 3. proposal: PBL approach). Fourthly, the relationship between the academic achievement, learning motivation, post-feedback was no correlation. Based on these results, the study suggests that the chatterbot method was need for multiple instructional design strategy.

  • Our research team is developing a 6-DOF manipulator that is adequate for the narrow workspace of press forming processes. This paper addresses the task sequence optimization methods for the manipulator to minimize the task-finishing time. First, a kinematic model of the manipulator is presented, and the anticipated times for moving among the task locations are computed. Then, a mathematical model of the task sequence optimization problem is presented, followed by a comparison of three meta-heuristic methods to solve the optimization problem: an ant colony system, simulated annealing, and a genetic algorithm. The simulation shows that the genetic algorithm is robust to the parameter settings and has the best performance in both minimizing the task-finishing time and the computing time compared to the other methods. Finally, the algorithms were implemented and validated through a simulation using Mathworks' Matlab and Coppelia Robotics' V-REP (virtual robot experimentation platform).

  • The current study explored how robot's persuasive intent and its' physical distance affect consumers' evaluaton on the robot and the product that the robot advertises. This study administered a 2 (level of pursasion intent: low vs. high) × 2 (physical distance: normal vs. close) between-subjects factorial design experiment. The findings revealed that consumers evaluated the robot' expertise and trustworthiness more negatively and reported lower intentions to buy the produce when they perceived robot's persasive intent saliently high. Consumers were also found to show more negative attitude toward the robot and lower intentions to buy the produce when the robot approached to their personal space more closely. The theoretical and practical implications about human-robot interaction in marketing context were discussed.

  • A robot-friendly building certification system was established in 2022 to accommodate the growing number of service robots introduced into buildings. However, this system primarily targeted office buildings, with limitations in applying other functional architectures. To address this problem, we developed a certification model of a robot-friendly environment to extend the existing system to apartment complexes. Using focus group interviews and the analytic hierarchy process, we established 28 evaluating items categorized as (a) architecture and facility design, (b) networks and systems, (c) building operations management, and (d) support for robot activity and other services. These indicators were weighted based on their relative importance within and between categories, resulting in scores ranging from 1 to 18 points and a total of 176 points. According to evaluations with the 28 items, each apartment complex could be graded as "best," "excellent," or "general" based on its total achieved scores. This study is significant, as we present the world's first certification model of a robot-friendly environment for apartment complexes that considers human-robot interactions

  • This research examines the effect of robots for improving creativity in elementary art classes. A creative art program with robot was developed based on research of robots and their effects on creativity, and an elementary art curriculum analysis. The program ran for 16 class periods. In this research, fifty seven 4th grade students participated, and an analysis of covariance was carried out based on before and after creativity tests. The research result shows that students who used the robot program achieved a significant improvement in their creativity over students who did not use the robot program in art classes. It proves that robots can be effective tools for improving creativity in elementary art classes.
