In two experiments, we compared envy with admiration in attentional and motivational benefits. In addition, we tested whether individual differences in working memory capacity (WMC) have consequences for emotion regulation. In Study 1, following WMC tasks, the participants were primed either with envy or with admiration through a recall task, in which they had to recall their own experiences about envy or admiration. The participants in the envy condition considered it more undeserved that another person had an advantage over them, than in the admiration condition. Additionally, in the envy condition, WMC was related to happiness, and anxiety was related to the motivation to study more. In contrast, there were no significant relationships between WMC, emotion and study hours in the admiration condition. Study 2 (N=43) found greater memory for the envy scenario in the envy condition than in the admiration and in the control condition. Additionally, there were significant relationships between WMC, anxiety and recall accuracy in the envy condition. However, these relations were not found in the admiration and in the control condition. Findings implicate that envy may play an important role in memory systems and that WMC is related to emotion regulation abilities.

This study investigated the effect of parental psychological control on relational aggression among middle school students, the mediating effects of rejection sensitivity and friendship jealousy, and whether there were differences in these variables by the demographic characteristics of gender and family form. Data of 554 middle school students living in Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do were used for the final analysis. There were two major results. The first major result was what rejection sensitivity and friendship jealousy sequentially mediated the relationship between parental psychological control and relational aggression. The second major result was gender differences which was shown by a multi-group analysis to examine in the path from parental psychological control to rejection sensitivity, the path from parental psychological control to relational aggression, and the path from friendship jealousy to relational aggression. This study was meaningful in that it expanded the understanding of relational aggression and identified directions for therapeutic interventions.

This paper explores envy and jealousy caused by conflicts between youth and old age in Philip Roth's The Dying Animal and Bumshin Park's Eungyo. In Roth's Novel, David became envious and jealous of a fictional man when he imagined "the pornography of jealousy." In this pornography, his imagined rival was a young man who was once David himself but was no longer young who might steal Consuela away from him. In this sense, David's envy towards this young rival can be called "self-envy." David considered sex an act of revenge on death. But his envy and jealousy undermined his power and effect. In Eungyo, envy and jealousy arose between Lee and Seo when they came into conflict because of Lee's literary talent and Eungyo. At first, Seo admired Lee. But he grew envious of Lee's talent when he gained popularity and success by publishing Lee's novels under his own name. He was engulfed in jealousy when he detected Lee's sexual desire for Eungyo. He even insulted Lee's old age, which enraged Lee. Lee's rage was mixed with his envy toward the young and his sense of betrayal against Seo. With Seo's death, all these negative feelings disappeared. Instead, Lee was captivated by the pulsing breath of life and its beauty he observed in Eungyo.

This study used the hypothetical path model to investigate individual traits(attachment, reciprocal relationship, and self-esteem), situational evaluation(justification, and intention) and jealousy level in adolescents. Subjects were 853 7th, 9th, 11th grade students in the city of Daegu. Results showed that scores of girls were higher than boys on self-reported and peer-reported jealousy level, attachment, reciprocal relationship, adaptive expression and non-adaptive expression. Scores of boys were higher than girls for self-esteem, justification. Self-reported jealousy level was affected by situation evaluation(justification and intention) and attachment. Peer-reported jealousy level was affected by reciprocal relationship. Jealousy expression modes were affected by self-reported jealousy level and attachment.

대학과 대학교수들은 분명 비판받을 점이 많다. 그렇기에 언론이 냉정하게 이성적으로 대학사회의 문제를 지적하고 비판한다면, 그건 우리의 대학발전에 큰 도움이 될 것이다. 그런데 언론은 대학과 대학교수에 대해 보도할 때엔 이성을 잃고 감정적인 보복을 하는 듯한 태도로 나오니 대학발전에 도움이 되기는커녕 오히려 대학발전에 역행하기 일쑤다. 언론의 대학교수 관련보도에 많은 문제가 있다는 건 모든 교수들이 공감하고 있는 듯히다. 그러나 그런 보도에 대한 교수들의 대응은 거의 전무했다. 비록 과장과 왜곡이 난무할망정 언론의 대학교수 비판에 타당한 면이 있는 건 분명한 이상, 교수들이 적극적으로 시시비비를 가리는 것이 옳을 것이다. 그렇게 하는 것이 논쟁의 생산성을 높여 궁극적으로 대학발전에도 기여할 수 있을 것이다.

사랑만큼 인간을 변함없이 사로잡은 테마가 있을까? 아담이 혼자 있는 것이 보기 좋지 않아, 이브를 탄생시켜 에덴동산에서 같이 살게 만들었 다는 <성서>, 질투와 짝사랑, 그리고 이뤄질 수 없는 자기애 등 사랑에서 생기는 많은 모티프의 원형으로 가득한 <그리스,로마 신화>, 그리고 바보 온달 왕자를 사랑의 힘으로 훌륭하게 만들었다는 낙랑공주의 이야기 등이 담긴 <삼국유사>. 역사의 고전에는 어디에나 사랑의 이야기가 넘쳐날 정도로 풍부하다. 그러나 이렇게 많은 사랑의 이야기에도 불구하고 우리는 새로운 사랑 이야기를 찾는다. 그리고 언제나 다시 사랑의 이야기에 주목하게 된다. 디지털 시대라고 해서 다를까? 그렇지 않다. SF영화, 미래를 다루는 영화에서도 사랑은 빠지지 않고 등장하는 중요한모티프이다. <매트릭스>만 봐도 그렇다. 궁극적으로 모든 갈등과 위기를 구원하는 것은‘사랑’이지 않은가. 이처럼‘사랑’은 인류 최대의 난제이자 영원한 테마인 것이다.

한국 대중문화의 발전과 더불어 국내외에서는 한류라는 브랜드로 대한민국의 문화와 대한민국 자체에 대하여 많은 호감과 함께 질투의 시선을 보내고 있다. 이러한 대한민국의 대중문화산업은 이제 대한민국을 벗어나 우리만의 문화가 아닌 세계를 지향하며 공감대를 형성하는 문화로 발전하고 있으며, 대중적인 인기를 얻고 있는 스타들이 문화첨병의 역할을 하고 있는 상황이다. 이제 한국의 대중문화는 우리만의 것이 아닌 세계인과 소통하고 나누어야 하는 문화인 것이다. 대한민국의 문화산업은 이제 가파른 성장만이 아닌 기본에 충실한 역사와 철학을 수반해야 할 것이며, 대중에 대한 사회적인 책임과 역할을 수행함으로써 더욱더 세계의 문화와 교감하며 발전해 나갈 수 있을 것이다. 그러므로 본 논문에서는 대중들의 사랑을 통하여 성장하는 스타들의 사회적 기여와 그 활동에 대한 사례를 살펴보고 한류의 지속적인 발전과 문화 창출을 위한 올바른 소셜테이너로서의 책임 및 역할과 지구공동체를 위한 힐링 소사이어티에 대하여 고찰해 보고자 한다.
