The research subjects are 19 male nurses who work at a hospital and 29 female nurses who are doing Masters degrees in "J" province of the Republic of Korea. The data collection period was March 25 to April 1, 2015. The quantitative data was analyzed with SPSS WIN 19.0 software while the qualitative data was analyzed according to the 'contents analysis' method. The results show that the satisfaction of male participants in their profession is higher than average. The item 'growth as a professional' was rated highest as a satisfying aspect of working as a nurse. A difference was observed in the points of view of male and female participants, however, both male and female nurses have a positive view of male nurses which over comes traditional stereotypes. These results will be used to establish a positive image of nurses across genders.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the meaning and essence of nursing students' experience of handwashing education volunteer program. There were 10 students who participated in the handwashing education service, and data collection was conducted for two months from October to November 2021, and three focus groups were formed and interviewed. Data were analyzed by Colaizz's phenomenological research method. As a result of the study, 3 themes and 10 sub-themes were derived. The three themes were 'personal development', 'self-esteem as a pre-nursing nurse', and 'knowing the meaning of service'. Nursing students learned the meaning of service through handwashing education service, and it was found that they could experience their own inner maturity. Nursing students could see that it was a time to learn the true meaning of service through handwashing education volunteering. • Purpose: This study explored the experiences of pregnant women with depressed mood participating in a group cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) program using video communication, based on Beck's cognitive theory. Methods: The participants were six pregnant women out of 13 women who had participated in an 8-session group CBT program using video communication for women with depressed mood (Edinburgh Postnatal Depression score of ≥9). Data were collected from February 20 through March 25, 2021. In-depth individual interviews were conducted through a video conferencing platform at 1 month post-baseline. Thematic analysis was done. Results: Three themes, 10 subthemes, and 38 concepts were derived from experiences of participating in the 4-week group CBT program (twice a week). The first theme, entitled "continuing realization" had subthemes of "a negative and instable self," "a selfish judgment that excludes others," and "a strong belief in self-control." The second theme, entitled "attempt to change for restoration" had subthemes of "shift to rational thinking," "freedom from suppressed beliefs," "tolerance of other people," and "courage for self-expression." The third theme, entitled "departure for a positive life," had subthemes of "emotional healing," "faith in oneself," and "reestablishing the criteria for happiness." Conclusion: Pregnant women with depressed mood expressed that continuing realizations and attempts to change supported their transition toward a positive direction of healing. Thus, they were able to change their distorted thinking into rational thinking through CBT using video communication. These findings support the use of group CBT using video communication with pregnant women who have depressed mood.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to conduct a qualitative synthesis of workplace bullying experiences among nurses in Republic of Korea. Methods: Following the PRISMA guideline, a literature search was conducted using seven domestic and three international databases. Studies published in Korean or English from inception to December 31, 2022 were included. A meta-aggregation approach suggested by the Joanna Briggs Institute was used to synthesize the research findings. Results: Fourteen studies were included in this review. As a result of a data analysis of the selected studies, 199 subthemes and supporting illustrations were identified and grouped into 36 related categories. Based on the subthemes and categories, five synthesized findings were developed: (1) the individual and organizational causes of workplace bullying; (2) the various types of physical violence and psychological harassment; (3) the negative impact of workplace bullying and its effect on self-growth; (4) active and passive coping efforts in dealing with bullying; and (5) strategies for preventing bullying incidents. Conclusion: Based on the synthesized findings, four recommendations were made: (1) improving the challenging working conditions for nurses; (2) enhancing educational programs for new nursing graduates; and (3) promoting proactive responses from nursing managers in conjunction with an expansion of resilience training for nursing students. Finally, to address the issue of workplace bullying, (4) multi-center and multi-level research involving nursing organizations needs to be conducted.
