Numerical Investigation of Low-pollution Combustion with applying Flue Gas Recirculation in Counterflow Flames: Part I. Combustion Characteristics of Low NOx (대향류 화염에서 FGR이 적용된 저공해 연소의 수치적 해석: Part I. 저 NOx 연소특성)

  • One of the methods for low-pollution combustion, flue gas recirculation(FGR) is effective to reduce nitrogen oxides and it was applied in CH4/air premixed counterflow flames to identify the change of flame characteristics and NOx mechanisms. Considering that the mole fraction of the products varied depending on the strain rates, the major products: CO2, H2O, O2 and N2 were recirculated as a diluent to reflect the actual combustion system. With the application of the FGR technique, a turning point of maximum flame temperature under certain strain rate condition was found. Furthermore as the recirculation ratio increased, the tendency of NO was changed before and after the turning point and the analysis on thermal NO and Fenimore NO production was conducted.

Effect of Ash Content on Unburned Carbon and NOx Emission in a Drop Tube Furnace (DTF 를 이용한 석탄 회분 함량에 따른 미연분 및 NOx 배출 특성 연구)

  • Four coal sources that had different ash contents were evaluated in a drop tube furnace (DTF). Combustion experiments were conducted by using several sources with different particle sizes and excess air ratios under air-staging conditions to determine the optimized combustion conditions of high-ash coal, with an emphasis on the combustion efficiency and NOx emissions. The results show that the higher ash content results in a large amount of carbon remaining unburned, and that this effect is dominant when the largest particle size is used. Furthermore, the ash content of coal does affect the Char-NOx concentration, which decreases with the particle size. The results of this study suggest that an air-staged system can be useful to reduce the NOx emissions of high-ash coal and that control of the air stoichiometric ratio of the primary combustion zone (SR1) is effective for reducing NOx emissions, especially by considering unburned carbon contents.

  • Hydrogen-fueled gas turbines are a promising technology that can resolve the carbon dioxide emission issue as future aviation propulsion engines and carbon-free power generations. To achieve high efficiency and stability of gas turbines using 100% hydrogen as fuel, an innovative design of combustor systems is necessary to consider the characteristics of hydrogen, which are different from those of conventional hydrocarbon fuels. Micromix is a combustor design method, which aims to terminate the reaction quickly by intense mixing of fuel and air, consequently reducing NOx and increasing the stability. In this paper, we examine the principles and design process of micromix combustors as a pure-hydrogen combustion technology, and we introduce a design of a 30 kW micromix hydrogen combustor for research.

교통량에 따른 배기가스량 산정에 관한 연구 -교차로를 중심으로-

  • 현재 서울은 교통사고문제, 교통혼잡문제와 자동차로부터 배출되는 유해가스에 의한 대기환경오염문제를 갖고 있다. 본 논문의 목적은 대기환경오염을 악화시키는 자동차의 주된 배출오염가스인 일산화탄소, 탄화수소 및 질소화합물량을 교차로 교통량을 중심으로 어떻게 계산하는가에 있다. 연구의 대상지역은 서울시의 송파구 교차로들과 도심지역의 링크들을 선택하였다. 그리고 교통량, 지체시간, 링크길이, 정지회수, 운행속도, 주행속도 등을 고려하여, 제작차 배출가스 허용기준, 총량기준, 불량차 기준, 속도기준 등에 의한 계수산정 및 TRAF-NETSIM에 의한 시뮬레이션을 통하여 일정 도로상의 제한된 범위내의 배출량 산출을 시도하였다. 본 연구의 결과에 의하면 첫째, 어느 방법이든 실제배출량의 정확한 값을 표현 할 수는 없는 것이고, 단지 상대적인 비교에 의하면 배출가스량의 수준을 추정 할 수 있었다. 또한, 시뮬레이션 배출율표를 우리 현실에 맞는 자료에 의해 수정할 수 있다면, 그 결과는 실제량에 보다 근접할 수 있을 것이다. 둘째, 서울도로의 현재 혼잡상태에서 속도의 저감에 배출량이 민감한 반응을 보이고 있다는 사실이다. 셋째, 교통량변화에 따른 배출량의 변화가 일산화탄소에서 가장 심하게 나타남을 알 수 있었고, 신호운영상의 옵셋값이 잘못 설정되면 탄화수소는 35%, 일산화탄소는 40%, 질소산화물은 75%까지 초과발생할 수 있으며, 유해배출가스량을 최소화시키는 측면에서의 신호최적화를 위해서는 현재의 Stop Penalty는 상향 조정되어야 함이 밝혀졌다. 앞으로는 자동차로 인한 대기환경오염 농도의 저감을 위해서는 도로별 자동차 유해가스 배출 총량규제 방안도 고려해 볼 가치가 있으며, 이를 위해 환경공학과 교통공학의 다학제적 공동연구가 지속적으로 필요하며 교통정책에 반영되어야 할 것이다.분석, 리용수 학모형대이십일세기상해항공운량진행예측, 제출발전상해항공운수적전 략목표급발전중점. 예측2020년 상해항공항총객운탄토량4300만인/년, 화운량달120만돈; 2050년객운량장달18150만인차/년, 화운량518만돈. 사, 발전상해민항기출경제정책, 제출위료$\ll$진흥상해, 개발포동, 복무전국, 면향세계$\gg$ 화도이십일세기중기국민경제달도중등발달국가수 평굉관전략목표적실현, 제료필수재지도사상상파교통운수진정방도전략 산업지위, 환응재관리체제상채취과단유효적개혁조시, 재기출경제정책 상급여대력부지. 오, 전략목표, 위파상해건설성위태평양서안최대적경제, 김융, 무역적중심, 요구상해항공항성위화동지구통향세계각지항선망출발참, 구성대외개방선면축심, 실현국제항선적함접화국내항반적전항, 형성다축심복사식항선망; 가강기장건설, 개피포동제이국제기장건설, 괄응포동개발경제발전적수요. 부화개시일은 각 5월 26일과 5월 22일이었다. 11. 6월 중순에 애벌레를 대상으로 처리한 Phenthoate EC가 96.38%의 방제가로 약효가 가장 우수하였고 3월중순 및 4월중순 월동후 암컷을 대상으로 처리한 Machine oil, Phenthoate EC 및 Trichlorfon WP는 비교적 약효가 낮았다.>$^{\circ}$E/$\leq$30$^{\circ}$NW 단열군이 연구지역 내에서 지하수 유동성이 가장 높은 단열군으로 추정된다. 이러한 사실은 3개 시추공을 대상으로 실시한 시추공 내 물리검층과 정압주입시험에서도 확인된다..   • SCR technology, which uses urea-water as a NOx reducing agent, has been widely used to reduce NOx in marine diesel engines. However, as an alternative NOx reducing agent, solid-phase ammonium carbamate has several advantages, such as low-temperature NOx reduction performance and NH3 storage capacity. This study presents a method for evaluating the purity of ammonium carbamate using EA, FTIR, and XRD to investigate the change in the material characteristics of ammonium carbamate when it is exposed to various temperature and pressure conditions. In this study, it was found that the purity of ammonium carbamate can be effectively evaluated via EA analysis. The FTIR analysis results confirmed that the properties of ammonium carbamate did not change even after repeated heating and cooling under thermal decomposition temperature conditions, which may be applied to the SCR system of marine diesel engines. Additionally, it was found that when ammonium carbamate was exposed to the atmosphere for a long time, it transformed into ammonium carbonate.

A Study on the Flow Characteristics of the Flue Gas Recirculation with the Change of Venturi Tube Shape (벤튜리관 형상에 따른 배기가스 재순환 유동 특성에 관한 연구)

  • Exhaust gas recirculation method is widely used among various methods for reducing nitrogen oxides in automobile engines and incinerators. In the present study, the computational fluid dynamic analysis was accomplished to derive the optimal location of air nozzle exit position by changing its position in a venturi tube for the maximum flue gas recirculation effect. In addition, the flue gas recirculation characteristics with a cone at the exit of air nozzle was elucidated with flue gas recirculation flow rate ratio and mixed gas exit temperature. When the air nozzle exit position was changed from the start position (z = 0) to the end position (z = 0.6m) of the exhaust gas recirculation exit pipe, the change of streamline and temperature distribution in the venturi tube was observed. The exhaust gas recirculation flow rate and the average temperature at the mixed gas exit position was quantitatively compared. From the present study, the optimal location of air nozzle exit position for the maximum flue gas recirculation flow rate ratio and maximum mixed gas exit temperature is z = 0.15m (1/4L). In addition, when the cone is installed at the outlet of the air nozzle, the velocity of the air nozzle outlet is increased, the flue gas recirculation flow rate was increased by about 2 times of the flow rate without cone, and the mixed gas exit temperature is increased by $116^{\circ}C$.

Numerical Study on the Arrangement of AIG for Determining the $NH_3$ Concentration Distribution in the Package Type of Small Scale SCR System (패키지형 소형 SCR 시스템 내 $NH_3$ 농도분포 제어를 위한 AIG의 배치에 관한 전산해석적 연구)

  • A package type of SCR (selective catalytic reduction) system that was proposed for removing the $NO_x$ found in flue gas from the small scale of air pollution sources was evaluated. The efficiency of the SCR system is determined by the proper utilization of catalytic media installed inside of the system, and the proper distribution of flow velocity and $NH_3$ concentration in the flue gas is a crucial factor for using the catalytic media. In this study, the distributions of $NH_3$ concentration were estimated under the various arrays and shapes of AIG at the given gas flow condition. The value of RMS (%) in $NH_3$ concentration is 95.3% at co-current flow (at $0^{\circ}$) injection but it is 90.1% at the condition of counter-current flow (at $120^{\circ}$) condition, which implies the counter-current injection is more favorable. By rearranging the $NH_3$ injection flow rates based on the distribution of velocity and $NH_3$ distribution in basic calculation, the value of RMS (%) in $NH_3$ concentration was reduced to 62.8%. The enhanced effect of $NH_3$ mixing by the combined effect of arrays and shapes are complied in the study.

A Study on the Uniform Mixing of Ammonia-Air with the Change of Ammonia Supply Device Shape in a De-NOx System (탈질설비에서 암모니아 혼합기의 형상에 따른 암모니아-공기 균일 혼합에 관한 연구)

  • Selective catalytic reduction(SCR) method is widely used among various methods for reducing nitrogen oxides in combustion devices of coal power plant. In the present study, the computational fluid dynamic analysis was accomplished to derive the optimal shape of ammonia-dilution air mixing device in a ammonia injection grid. The distribution characteristics of flow and $NH_3$ concentration had been elucidated for the reference shape of ammonia mixing device(Case 1). In the mixing device of Case 1, it could be seen that $NH_3$ distribution was shifted to the wall opposite to the inlet of the ammonia injection pipe. For the improvement of $NH_3$ distribution, the case(Case 2) with closing one upper injection hole and 4 side injection holes, the case(Case 3) with installing horizontal plate at the upper of ammonia injection pipe, the case(Case 4) with installing horizontal plate and horizontal arc plate at he upper of ammonia injection pipe were investigated by analyzing flow and $NH_3$ concentration distributions. From the present study, it was found that the % RMS of $NH_3$ for Case 4 was 4.92%, which was the smallest value among four cases, and the range of $R_{NH3}$ also has the optimally uniform distribution, -10.82~8.34%.

A Study on the Recirculation Flow Characteristics with the Change of Shape in a Flue Gas Recirculation Device using Coanda Nozzle (코안다 노즐을 이용한 배기가스 재순환 장치의 형상에 따른 재순환 유동 특성에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of the present study is to elucidate flue gas recirculation device for reduction of nitrogen oxides using coanda nozzle without adopting additional power driving fan in a waste incinerator. The characteristics of the exhaust gas recirculation flow rate and the average temperature change at the outlet of the mixed gas were investigated according to the change of air supply nozzle gap and the position of air supply nozzle. When the gap of the air supply nozzle was changed to 3.22, 4.03, and 4.84 mm, the largest recirculation flow ratio, which is the ratio of exhaust gas recirculation flow rate and air supply flow rate, was 2.227 for the case with 3.22 mm and its mean temperature at outlet was $594.8^{\circ}C$. When the position of the air supply nozzle changes to the front position, neck position, and expansion position of the coanda nozzle neck, the recirculation flow ratios at the forward position and the neck position were nearly almost the same value, 1.843, and 1.696 at the expansion position, their mean temperatures were $559.8^{\circ}C$ and $544.3^{\circ}C$, respectively.

Combustion Characteristic Study of LNG Flame in an Oxygen Enriched Environment (산소부화 조건에 따른 LNG 연소특성 연구)

  • The ultimate objective of this study is to develop oxygen-enriched combustion techniques applicable to the system of practical industrial boiler. To this end the combustion characteristics of lab-scale LNG combustor were investigated as a first step using the method of numerical simulation by analyzing the flame characteristics and pollutant emission behaviour as a function of oxygen enrichment level. Several useful conclusions could be drawn based on this study. First of all, the increase of oxygen enrichment level instead of air caused long and thin flame called laminar flame feature. This was in good agreement with experimental results appeared in open literature and explained by the effect of the decrease of turbulent mixing due to the decrease of absolute amount of oxidizer flow rate by the absence of the nitrogen species. Further, as expected, oxygen enrichment increased the flame temperatures to a significant level together with concentrations of $CO_2$ and $H_2O$ species because of the elimination of the heat sink and dilution effects by the presence of $N_2$ inert gas. However, the increased flame temperature with $O_2$ enriched air showed the high possibility of the generation of thermal $NO_x$ if nitrogen species were present. In order to remedy the problem caused by the oxygen-enriched combustion, the appropriate amount of recirculation $CO_2$ gas was desirable to enhance the turbulent mixing and thereby flame stability and further optimum determination of operational conditions were necessary. For example, the adjustment of burner with swirl angle of $30\sim45^{\circ}$ increased the combustion efficiency of LNG fuel and simultaneously dropped the $NO_x$ formation.
