  • Drawing on the autonomist Marxist concepts of 'social factory', 'immaterial labour', and 'precarity', this paper discusses the changed nature of labour, life and social relations in contemporary informational capitalism. More specifically, it first traces back to the early autonomist (operasimo) theories of 'social factory' and 'class composition' and then discusses how these earlier theories were developed into the concept of 'immaterial labour' by a group of later autonomist theorists such as Paolo Virno, Maurizio Lazzarato, Micheal Hardt, and Antonio Negri. Then, it reviews how the concept of immaterial labour was taken up to understand the nature of labour in digital economy within the tradition of Cultural Studies, closely intersecting with the critiques of 'creative labour'. Finally, it discusses how the changed nature of labour is interrelated with the neoliberal labour forces transformations such as casualization of employment and increasing insecurity in employment and life, which the autonomist explores with the concept of 'precarity', the material condition of immaterial labour.

  • Research on human identification in ubiquitous environment has recently attracted a lot of attention. As one of those research, gait recognition is an efficient method of human identification using physical features of a walking person at a distance. In this paper, we present a human shape extraction and tracking for gait recognition using geodesic active contour models(GACMs) combined with mean shift algorithm The active contour models (ACMs) are very effective to deal with the non-rigid object because of its elastic property. However, they have the limitation that their performance is mainly dependent on the initial curve. To overcome this problem, we combine the mean shift algorithm with the traditional GACMs. The main idea is very simple. Before evolving using level set method, the initial curve in each frame is re-localized near the human region and is resized enough to include the targe region. This mechanism allows for reducing the number of iterations and for handling the large object motion. The proposed system is composed of human region detection and human shape tracking modules. In the human region detection module, the silhouette of a walking person is extracted by background subtraction and morphologic operation. Then human shape are correctly obtained by the GACMs with mean shift algorithm. In experimental results, the proposed method show that it is extracted and tracked efficiently accurate shape for gait recognition.

  • Traditionally, economic growth has been uneven over the space. It has also been true for the recovery from social and economic crisis in old industrial areas of the advanced economies. Even if many of such old industrial areas were seriously affected by de-industrialization, some areas have been showing progress, while others have not been so. While interpreting this phenomenon used to be a key issue in economics, main stream liberal economic theorists' explanation was uneven distribution of economic resources, such as raw materials, labour and money. However, some revolutionary economic theorists have brought in the concept of "history" in explaining the phenomenon. Path dependence theorists, for example, interpretate the emergence of different growth paths with the concept of historical accidents. This contrasts to the recent argument of the group of scholars suggesting the concept of "regional resilience," who argue that uneven growth and different growth paths are originated from different regional resilience. This paper introduces the backgrounds, characteristics and utilities of the two theories: path dependence theory and the concept of regional resilience.

  • This article focuses on reviewing place branding theories as a major toolkit of 'soft regional development'. Place branding provides sophisticate methodologies to strengthen city and regional image and identity. For effective place marketing practices, four of useful place branding tools are suggested. They include the methodology of place identity development, brand leadership system in local governance, construction of city brand architecture, and evaluation model for city brand equity. A process model is suggested for systematically organizing the diverse tools of place marketing and branding. The model is expected to be used as a framework of strategical soft regional development and planning. The place branding process model is to be an important theoretical and methodological basement of postmodern urban and regional development on which creativity, symbol and signs are more emphasized. More in-depth theoretical and empirical studies are needed. Geographical tradition and knowledge can play important roles in this inter-disciplinary process.

  • Web Service applications based on the social relation such as Social Network Service(SNS), Social Medias are making strong blast. Social Computing which is widely spreading to worldwide is affecting to our life including policies, economies, societies and culture. Based on Web 2.0, various services like as Social Collaboration, Social Publishing, Social Feedback are supplied, more evolved social computing services, Social Connection, Augmented Reality, will be served for the next days from now. These network based services, Social Network Service or Social Media frequently used terms, are not defined exactly and their characteristics are not gotten to the bottom yet. Theoretical and systematic studies on these themes are not made also. Applications to business area, especially the receptivity to social computing in international trade is barely made to these days. This study focuses on the concepts, characteristics and sorts of social computing and purposes to consider its possibilities of application of social computing to international trade. Considering the advantage of Social network service, it can be used in international trade, a kind of B2B transaction, while existing social network is mainly applied to B2e transaction.

  • The cyber world is organically alive. It continues to evolve as humans interact with it. Real life and virtual reality are directly or indirectly connected through technology at the network terminal. Branding, in the cyber world, is created by BI(Brand Identity), using designed symbols and logotype developed with digital technology. The objective of this study is to improve the brand value of enterprises and organizations through the use of moving images to adapt to the mobile environment in this rapidly changing cyber world. First, the basic concepts of brand identity, structure, and integrated brand identity were studied. Next, case studies of overseas enterprise branding such Swisscom, HP, BBC were analyzed examining their design concepts and implementation of integrated moving brands. Finally, moving brand identity is explored, for value enhancement, in my projects in ACM SIG CHI 2015, HCI Korea 2014, Aegis Ship 'Yulgok YiYi.' with a discussion of design planning and results. This treatise will contribute to the improvement of brand strategy and design in this country.

  • The 'Grand Challenge' in the global level raises fundamental questions on the role of private firm as a profit maximizer. From the new perspective, firms are recognized as a social entity with social and environmental responsibility. Particularly, the importance of transition-orineted firms, which pursue an objective of socio-technological system transition, have increased. These environmental changes request a new understanding on the identification of firms and the evolution of sustainable business model from the technological innovation perspectives. This paper aims on the new understanding on the motivation of firms who participated on the sustainable system transition and the proposal of 'transition-oriented firms' concept. Based on literature survey, this paper reviews the role of firms in the process of socio-technological system transition, the cases of transition-oriented firm, the types of sustainable business models and their strategies.

  • The organization for satellite operation team is mainly based on the number of satellites to be controlled, operator's workload of payload operation support and the degree of automation of the operation system. Although the structure and its functionality of satellite operation organization are a little different according to the complexity of the operation, most satellite control centers have adapted the similar architecture for single or multiple satellite support. KARI Satellite Operation Center(KSOC) has started its simple mission operations since the launch of KOMPSAT-1(21st Dec. 1999) and has been evolving into multiple mission operations for various satellites such as KOMPSAT-2, KOMPSAT-3, KOMPSAT-5 and COMS(Communication Ocean Meteorological Satellite). This paper presents the appropriate direction of future deployment for KSOC by comparing the current status with the recommendation of the advanced satellite operation organization and analyzing their experiences in order to propose the better solution for efficient and safe satellite operations.
