  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the educational factors on career choice of science-gifted students to science and technology bound universities and the difference of perception in regards to group factors. In addition, this study aimed to examine the effects of science-gifted education and critical events in relation to career choice to science and technology bound universities. For the study, 104 university freshmen, 75 males and 29 females, were sampled from UNIST (Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology), that many science high school graduates entered this year. The survey was conducted with questionnaires to do with the perceptions concerning career choice and educational factors that cause them to choose such career directions. The educational factors on career choice to science and technology bound universities were classified as 3 main categories such as educational environment factor (teaching-learning factor), human factor, attitude towards science factor and the subcategories within each category. The research findings are as follows: First, the factors were closely connected with each other and 'the project centered classes' were highly interrelated with other educational environment factors such as 'the experiment activity and environment for the activity' and 'influence of teachers (professors).' Second, the female students and graduates of the science high school were more positively influenced by the educational environment and human factors on their decision for career than male students and graduates of the general high school. Third, this research found that historical scientific knowledge, perception of scientists' social status and job applications in the science field gave less influence rather than other factors on their decision for career. As a result of examining critical events for science-gifted education in relation to career choice to science and technology bound universities, numerous students mentioned that the extracurricular science activities such as science camps and field trips gave significant effects on students' career choices to science and engineering fields.

  • This study investigated the factors affecting the procedures of becoming a scientist. Interview was used as a research method for deep understanding of individual career choice procedures. Interviews for individual scientists were conducted for about 60 minutes in their offices and all the interviews were tape-recorded. A total of 34 scientists who received some representative science awards in Korea during 1990 - 2001 were sampled. They were all men. But the interview was conducted with 30 scientists. The investigation was based on the framework that was composed of the following four categories: personal ability, home environment, school environment, and sociocultural environment. And each category had several factors as follows: personal ability consisted of the meta-ability to figure out the aptitude and the self-ability and the achievement; home environment consisted of parents, brothers and sisters, relatives, and hobby; school environment consisted of teachers, friends, club activity; sociocultural environment consisted of event, mass media, social recognition and social prospect. From the analysis of the career choice procedure of the scientists it was appeared that the meta-ability for personal ability, the parental influence particularly by father for home environment, science teacher and professor for school environment, and social prospect for sociocultural environment were important. In conclusion, most of the scientists made an important decision for their future career when they were the 12th grade and 1st year in university, and they considered intrinsic factor such as self-interest and aptitude and extrinsic factor such as social prospect. However intrinsic factor related to science teacher and professor and extrinsic factor related to fathers' advice.

  • This study aimed to clarify the effects of nursing students' major selection motivation on their career decision making self-efficacy and major satisfaction. For the goal, the study made a questionnaire survey of 300 nursing students in their 3rd or 4th year of a college in J City. 285 sheets were finally analyzed using the SPSS 25 Program. The findings of this research are as follows. Concerning general characteristics, there's a significant difference in influence on the abovementioned self-efficacy between personality and school satisfaction. Major satisfaction significantly varied depending on school satisfaction. There were significantly positive correlations existed between major selection motivation, and major satisfaction. Either intrinsic or extrinsic motivation affected the foresaid self-efficacy and major satisfaction in a significant, positive way. Regarding the influence of factors of major satisfaction on those of major selection motivation, curriculum and perception satisfaction had significant effects on intrinsic motivation as well as extrinsic one, while relationship satisfaction had such effect only on intrinsic motivation. These findings suggest that strategies for raising nursing students' major selection motivation should be taken, resultantly improving their career decision making self-efficacy and major satisfaction.

  • This study was conducted as a study on the SW career education of students from underprivileged areas, which is a necessary condition for SW education to become a universal education or where research has not been conducted. Therefore, this study conducted a SW career selection model using structural equations for 2,231 students in grades 3 to 6 in 6 schools located in the marginalized areas of eup/myeon. As a result of the study, it was analyzed that the intrinsic SW learning motive of students from underprivileged areas did not affect their SW career choice, whereas the external SW learning motive was analyzed to affect their SW career choice. This is inferred that the intrinsic SW learning motive does not affect the SW career choice due to the lack of SW experience of students in underprivileged areas. The correlation between internal and external SW learning motivation was analyzed to be significant. In the future, as students from the underprivileged class have more SW education experiences, research should be conducted on how internal SW learning motives affect SW career choice and how external SW learning motives support internal SW learning motives.

  • This study examined the factors that affect the relationship among career selection type, class participation, and career preparation behavior for university students who major in food service. A total of 350 questionnaires were distributed to students, of which 320 were deemed suitable for analysis after the removal of 30 unusable responses. In order to perform statistical analyses required in the study, SPSS 18.0 Statistical Program was employed for frequency analysis, factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlations, and regression analysis. The results of the exploratory factor analysis showed that two factors regarding career selection type were extracted from all measurements with a KMO of 0.754 and a total cumulative variance of 64.555%, with regard to class participation, three factors [I found only 1 factor in the paper; there were 3 variables] were extracted with a total cumulative variance of 71.1% and a KMO score of 0.702. One factor for career preparation behavior was extracted that accounted for a total cumulative variance of 64.312% and a KMO score of 0.765. Based on the study's results, the main research hypothesis that identified the relationships that career selection type had with and between class participation and career preparation behavior was partially adopted.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of selection motivation on the NCS curriculum and career decision of the students in security related department. The contents of the questionnaire consisted of "First, Motivation to select major, Second, NCS curriculum, Third, Career decision". In this study, Chronbach's Alpha coefficients were presented to analyze the reliability of variables and exploratory factors, and the Berimax method was performed. The AVE and CR values of the items were calculated to be 0.5 and 0.7, respectively. Therefore, it was analyzed that the Intensive feasibility of items were well-focused. As a result of the hypothesis test, the standardized coefficients were calculated as follows: 'Selective motivation ⇨ NCS curriculum' is 0.563, 'NCS curriculum ⇨ career decision' is 1.339. The relationship between the two hypotheses was found to be positive (+). In order to improve the career decision of students in security related departments, it seems necessary to raise the motivation of selection and to improve the satisfaction of NCS curriculum.
