A review of event perception: The first step for convergence on robotics (사건지각에 대한 종설: 로봇공학과의 융복합을 위한 첫단계)

  • People observe lots of events around the environment and we can easily recognize the nature of an event from the resulting optic flow. The questions are how do people recognize events and what is the information in the optic flow that enables observers to recognize events. Motor theorists claim that human observers exhibit special sensitivity when perceiving events like speech or biological motion, because we both produce and perceive those events. However, direct perception theorists suggested that speech or biological motion is not special from the perception of all other kinds of event. The purpose of this review article is to address this controversy to critique the motor theory and to describe a direct realist approach to event perception. It is important to understand the fundamental information of how human perceive event perception for the convergence on robotics.

Cognitive Approach for Building Intelligent Agent (지능 에이전트 구현의 인지적 접근)

  • The reason that an intelligent agent cannot understand the representation of its own perception or activity is caused by the traditional syntactic approach that translates a semantic feature into a simulated string, To implement an autonomously learning intelligent agent, Cohen introduces a experimentally semantic approach that the system learns a contentful representation of physical schema from physically interacting with environment using its own sensors and effectors. We propose that negation is a meta-level schema that enables an agent to recognize its own physical schema, To improve the planner's efficiency, Graphplan introduces the control rule that manipulates the inconsistency between planning operators, but it cannot cognitively understand negation and suffers from redundancy problem. By introducing a negative function not, IPP solves the problem, but its approach is still syntactic and is inefficient in terms of time and space. In this paper, we propose that, to represent a negative fact, a positive atom, which is called opposite concept, is a very efficient technique for implementing an cognitive agent, and demonstrate some empirical results supporting the hypothesis.

A Study on Developing Sensibility Model for Visual Display (시각 디스플레이에서의 감성 모형 개발 -움직임과 색을 중심으로-)

  • The structure of sensibility from motion was developed for the purpose of understanding relationship between sensibilities and physical factors to apply it to dynamic visual display. Seventy adjectives were collected by assessing adequacy to express sensibilities from motion and reporting sensibilities recalled from dynamic displays with achromatic color. Various motion displays with a moving single dot were rated according to the degree of sensibility corresponding to each adjective, on the basis of the Semantic Differential (SD) method. The results of assessment were analyzed by means of the factor analysis to reduce 70 words into 19 fundamental sensibilities from motion. The Multidimensional Scaling (MDS) technique constructed the sensibility space in motion, in which 19 sensibilities were scattered with two dimensions, active-passive and bright-dark Motion types systemically varied in kinematic factors were placed on the two-dimensional space of motion sensibility, in order to analyze important variables affecting sensibility from motion. Patterns of placement indicate that speed and both of cycle and amplitude in trajectories tend to partially determine sensibility. Although color and motion affected sensibility according to the in dimensions, it seemed that combination of motion and color made each have dominant effect individually in a certain sensibility dimension, motion to active-passive and color to bright-dark.
