Inter-and Intragenerational Occupational Mobility in Korea (도시취업자의 세대간 직업이동과 세대내 이동)

  • Using panel data (KLIPS) we examine the relation between respondents' occupation and their fathers' occupation. We divide the urban employed into four subgroups according to their occupation: employer, self-employed, white collar worker and blue collar worker. We find that the effects of fathers' occupation on respondents' occupation are mediated by the level of respondents' education. The effects of respondents' initial occupation on their current occupation are also significant. In terms of the extent of mobility, we can rank the occupational groups as follows: employer, upper layer of self-employed, white collar worker, lower layer of self-employed and blue collar. In order to encourage occupational mobility, we should level the opportunity of education among different occupational groups.

Career Cognition, Key Competency, Vocational Values of University Students and Junior College Students (대학생의 진로 관련 인식, 직업기초능력, 직업가치)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze career cognition, key competency, vocational values of university students and junior college students. The study was carried out through questionnaire survey method. The population sample for the study constituted 368 completed questionnaires from sample of 373 freshmen-women of university and students. A survey questionnaire consisted of career cognition items, key competency scale, vocational values scale, and personal characteristics items. The construct validity of key competency scale and vocational values scale were confirmed by factor analysis with varimax rotation. Both descriptive and inferential statistics were employed for data analysis. Major findings of this study were as follows: First, university students and junior college students most wanted to get a job after graduate. Many students decided their career at high school days. Many students were not prepared for their career after graduate. They recognized that major curriculum of university and junior college was very helpful to prepare their career. And many students discussed with their parents about their career. Second, key competency of them was moderately high. In the items of key competencies, 'communication and following' was the highest. And key competency of university students was better than that of junior college students. Key competency of male students was better than that of female students. Third, vocational values of them were high. In the items of vocational values, 'occupational stability' was the highest, and 'work in freedom and challenge' was the lowest. 'Occupational stability' and 'work in freedom and challenge' of junior college students was higher than that of university students. And 'occupational stability' of female students was higher than that of male students.

  • This study aimed to delve into the personal experiences of academic librarians as they perform their duties, seeking a holistic understanding of their professional experiences and the subjective experiences underlying them. To this end, the study conducted in-depth interviews with librarians, who were selected as research participants from private four-year universities, and analyzed the collected data using Giorgi's phenomenological analysis method. The findings reveal that the experiences of academic librarians can be summarized as "ambivalent perceptions of the librarian profession," "discrepancies between expectations and reality," "discriminatory personnel practices within university organizations," "growth and limitations derived from professional experiences," and "adaptation and anxiety in response to rapid environmental changes." A closer examination indicated that academic librarians continuously experience and resolve dilemmas within complex contexts. The findings of this study are expected to deepen the understanding of the profession of academic librarians and contribute to the development of practical strategies for workforce management and the improvement of working conditions.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine factors on wage of the Disabled. This study attempts to identify organizational effects on wage of the disabled. Then, this study adopts hierarchical linear model for the study purpose. Data used for this article is the survey on the vocational rehabilitation facilities in Seoul. The results are as follows. First, wage of the disabled is different from organizations as well as individuals. So, there are necessities in the consideration of organizational effects and the application of hierarchical linear model. Second, effects on wage of the disabilities controlling individual factors such as age, educational level, period using the facilities, sex, whether or not beneficiary, type of disability are different from organization. Finally, there are interaction effects of type of disability and organizational character variables. The implications of these findings are as follows. First, more political concerns should be given on the management of vocational rehabilitation facilities. Second, it is needed to concern about vocational rehabilitation of the mentally disabled.

Vocational Competency Constituents Affecting the Professionalism of Dental Hygienists (치과위생사의 전문직업성에 영향을 미치는 직업기초능력요소)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the constituents of vocational competency affecting the professionalism of dental hygienists. The subjects in this study were 230 dental hygienists who worked in university hospitals, dental hospitals, dental clinics and public dental clinics. A survey was conducted from December, 2013, to February, 2014. To assess their vocational competency and professionalism by general characteristics, one-way ANOVA and t-test were utilized, and the level of significance was set at p<0.05. To determine what elements of vocational competency affected their professionalism, multiple regression analysis was made, and standardized regression coefficients were calculated to represent the influence of the elements. As a result, it's found that the professionalism of the dental hygienists were under the influence of their self-development skills, organizational understanding and mathematical ability. To foster self-development skills, discussion method should be utilized, and team teaching should be used to improve organizational understanding. Besides, internship and on-the-job training should be managed in a more systematic way.

Exploring Subjectivity Concerning Occupational Achievements of KBS Journalists (KBS 기자의 직업적 성취에 관한 주관성 탐색)

  • It is common to say that Korean journalists' professionalism including the public broadcaster KBS is immature. This study used the Q methodology to explore the subjectivity that KBS reporters and citizens have formed about reporters' occupational achievements. we tried to find out the background and reasons of the subjective dimensions of journalists regarding the immature state of Korean journalists' professionalism. Under a condition for sorting of 'a reporter most likely to be promoted', using 95 statements related to the reporter's occupational achievements, 30 KBS reporters, 10 university students who were eager to be a journalist, and 40 ordinary people of various ages, a total of 80 participants took part in the Q sorting. A total of 3 Q factors were extracted, then analyzed in detail into a total of 6 reporter types divided into (+) and (-) sub types for each factor. As a result, six types of perceptions and attitudes were named as 'a professional reporter','a schemer reporter','an organizational loyalty reporter', 'a passionate reporter','a careerist reporter', and 'a reliable worker'. This study can be meaningful in that it further deepened and expanded the existing researches concerning Korean journalist's professional identity.

The Effect of CSR on the Organizational Trust and Job-esteem (CSR이 조직신뢰와 직업존중감에 미치는 영향)

  • The purse of this article is to analyze the effect of CSR(Corporate Social Responsibility) on organizational trust and job-esteem in the Hotel. Based on theoretical backgrounds, 3 hypotheses were derived and a regression model and AMOS was proposed. Analysis results are as follows: first, the higher degree of ethical responsibility and contributional responsibility have on active organizational trust positively. second, the relationship between CSR and job-esteem, only contributional responsibility affected intrinsic value and economic responsibility affected social reputation. third, the relationship between organizational trust and job-esteem, organizational trust had positive influence on intrinsic value and social reputation. In summary, the contributional responsibility among CSR was the key factors that affected employee's organizational trust and job-esteem directly or indirectly. We could lead employee's positive attitude as active charity and a portion of sale by returning to society. Therefore, Hotel should be improved employee's organizational trust with CSR consistantly and implemented policy that increase job-esteem as well.

The effects of Growth Needs and Job-esteem on Customer Orientation (호텔직원의 성장욕구와 직업존중감이 고객지향성에 미치는 영향)

  • 본 연구는 호텔직원의 성장욕구와 직업존중감이 고객지향성에 미치는 영향과 심리적 주인의식이 직원의 고객지향성의 관계에 미치는 매개효과에 대해 연구하였으며 서울지역에 소재한 특급호텔 직원을 대상으로 실증분석을 시행하였다. 그 결과, 직원의 성장욕구와 직업존중감이 고객지향성에 유의한 영향력이 있고 심리적 주인의식이 직원의 성장욕구와 직업존중감과 고객지향성의 관계에 완전한 매개효과를 미치는 것을 확인하였다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 호텔 인사담당자를 위한 직원관리에 대한 이론적 의미와 시사점 그리고 향후연구방향을 제시하였다.
