Composite draw textured yarns(DTY) and air jet textured yarns(ATY) with hollow PET filament have been used for making high emotional fabrics including light weight sports wear garments. This study investigated effect of hollow composite yarns and fabric structural parameters to the comfort properties related to the moisture and thermal transport phenomena for the composite fabrics made of DTY and ATY with hollow PET filament. Wicking property of hollow composite fabric was superior at the high pore size fabric and was not influenced by fabric cover factor. Wicking property of the fabric with ATY was better than that of the fabric with DTY. On the other hand, drying rate of fine pore sized fabric was shorter than that of large pore sized fabric and drying rate of high multi yarn fabric with low cover factor and small pore size was superior than that of hollow composite fabric. The pore size of the fabric was dominant factor in the air permeability and thermal conductivity of hollow composite fabric. High pore sized fabric showed high air permeability and thermal conductivity of hollow composite fabric was nonlinearly inversely proportional to pore size of the fabric.
In this paper, static compressive test and compression-compression fatigue test of carbon/epoxy composites which have different micro-structures were carried out with respect to the bias angle. In order to find out the effect of the micro-structure of the fabric composite on compressive characteristics the specimens made of UD carbon/epoxy composite comprising the same fiber and matrix system as the fabric composite were also prepared. The compressive strength and modulus were measured and these values were used to develop a semi-empirical formula for predicting compressive strength of the fabric composite with bias angles. The fatigue behavior of the fabric composite with respect to the bias angle variation was also investigated.

Multiscale multiphysics in structural batteries make mechanical property testing difficult. In this research, the effect of electrolyte-coating on the mechanical performance of carbon fabric was studied using a suitable mechanical test method for structural batteries. For this experiment, two types of specimens were determined their dimension according to ASTM. One type of specimen was smaller than the standard dimension. The specimens were coated by spreading the electrolyte material on carbon fabric, hardened using epoxy, and tested for tensile properties using universal testing machine. As a result, it was found that the mechanical properties of carbon fabric were not influenced by electrolyte coating. In addition, the small-scale specimen used in this experiment was determined to be sufficiently reliable.
This paper studied the mechanical characteristics of boom structures by verifying the modeling method of representing unit cells of triaxial woven fabric (TWF) composites. The modeling of the representative unit cell obtained the ABD matrix by analysing the behaviour of tensile, shear, bending, and torsion using the periodic boundary conditions for the beam element. This study aimed to validate the ABD matrix by comparing the tensile analysis output from a finite element program with the experimental results from an MTS 810 machine. Additionally, the mechanical characteristics of a TWF composite boom structure were determined through bending analysis and experiments. The findings of this research are expected to be beneficial for developing structures using TWF composites.

This research presents studies on an improved method to predict the thermal conductivity of woven fabric composites, the effects of geometric structures of woven fabric composites on thermal conductivity, and structural optimization to improve the thermal conductivity using a genetic algorithm. The geometric structures of woven fabric composites were constructed numerically using the information generated on waviness, thickness, and width of fill and warp tows. Thermal conductivities of the composites were obtained using a thermal-electrical analogy. In the genetic algorithm, the chromosome string consisted of thickness and width of the fill and warp tows, and the objective function was the maximum thermal conductivity of woven fabric composites. The results confirmed that an improved method to predict the thermal conductivity was built successfully, and the inter-tow gap effect on the composite's thermal conductivity was analyzed suggesting that thermal conductivity of woven fabric composites was reduced as the gap between tows increased. For structural design, optimized structures for improving the thermal conductivity were analyzed and proposed. Generally, axial thermal conductivity of the fiber tow contributed more to thermal conductivity of woven fabric composites than transverse thermal conductivity of the tows.
In this paper. various tow parameters such as equivalent tow thickness, amplitude of longitudinal tow and tow intervals were investigated and compared with each other by using microscopic observation to find out the exact deformation patterns between both directions of the fabric structure(Longitudinal and Transverse Directions). And those observation results were compared with bias extension. biaxial tests results with dry fabric which has the same tow structure as the draped helmet materials and also compared with prepreg specimen which is cured by autoclave moulding without vacuum and pressure condition. Specimens for the observation were taken from draped helmet which is made of fabric composite(Five Harness Satin Weave). From the observation results, it was found that there are different deformation pattern between tow directions and effect of geometric condition on the deformation of the fabric materials during draping process was verified.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of contact type textile electrode structure on heart activity signal acquisition for smart healthcare. In this study, we devised six contact type textile electrodes whose electrode size and configuration were manipulated for measuring heart activity signals using computerized embroidery. We detected heart activity signals using a modified lead II and by attaching each textile electrode to the chest band in four healthy male subjects in a standing static posture. We measured the signals four times repeatedly for all types of electrodes. The heart activity signals were sampled at 1 kHz using a BIOPAC ECG100, and the detected original signals were filtered through a band-pass filter. To compare the performance of heart activity signal acquisition among the different structures of the textile electrodes, we conducted a qualitative analysis using signal waveform and size as parameters. In addition, we performed a quantitative analysis by calculating signal power ratio (SPR) of the heart activity signals obtained through each electrode. We analyzed differences in the performance of heart activity signal acquisition of the six electrodes by performing difference and post-hoc tests using nonparametric statistic methods on the calculated SPR. The results showed a significant difference both in terms of qualitative and quantitative aspects of heart activity signals among the tested contact type textile electrodes. Regarding the configurations of the contact type textile electrodes, the three-dimensionally inflated electrode (3DIE) was found to obtain better quality signals than the flat electrode. However, regarding the electrode size, no significant difference was found in performance of heart signal acquisition for the three electrode sizes. These results suggest that the configuration method (flat/3DIE), which is one of the two requirements of a contact type textile electrode structure for heart activity signal acquisition, has a critical effect on the performance of heart activity signal acquisition for wearable healthcare. Based on the results of this study, we plan to develop a smart clothing technology that can monitor high-quality heart activity without time and space constraints by implementing a clothing platform integrated with the textile electrode and developing a performance improvement plan.
