The purpose of this study is to analyze the geomorphic characteristics of two erosional basins with same geological conditions. The study areas, the Okcheon basin ($36^{\circ}\;14'{\sim}36^{\circ}\;20'\;N,\;127^{\circ}\;32'\;30"{\sim}127^{\circ}\;37'\;37"\;E$) and Jincheon basin($36^{\circ}\;48'{\sim}37^{\circ}\;03'\;N,\;127^{\circ}\;22'{\sim}127^{\circ}\;36'\;E$), are located on middle part of the Geum river. The geological maps, a summit level map, and a drainage network map are created and analyzed the geomorphic characteristics. The main results are as follows: 1) The Okcheon basin and Jincheon basin are typical erosional basin, in which basin floor are composed of granite. 2) The formation of Okcheon basin and Jincheon basin resulted from differencial erosion after upwarping. 3) Okcheon basin and Jincheon basin are available for specialized agriculture area and a site of new settlement with satisfactory to accessibility.
In order to assess the hydraulic effects of flow pattern changes and geomorphological evolution around spur dikes, this study carried out monitoring and numerical simulation on the changes of morphologic characteristics around spur dikes that settled in the bend of the Yeongcheon River. The study site spanned 190 m, and spur dikes were installed in March 2008. Monitoring of the site started in May 2008 and was completed in April 2014. When the water level was higher than the height of the spur dikes, the spur dikes extrude flow from the bank. Therefore, the spur dikes that were built to stabilize the channel have been effectively performing hydraulic functions. With the passing of time, the channel was stabilized and pools formed around the spur dike toes by local scouring. It was confirmed that spur dikes created various physical characteristics in the aspect of channel topography, with sediments deposits occurring between the spur dikes, while riffles and pools formed in the channel.

This paper outlines a new approach to the line generalization when preparing small scale map on the basis of existing large scale digital map. Line generalizations are conducted based on Douglas algorithm using 1/25,000 scale topographic maps of southeastern JEJU island which produced by National Geographic Institute to analyze the fitness to the original and problems of graphical representation. Compare to the same scale map which was generated by manual method, a verity of small, but sometimes significant errors & modification of topological relationship have been detected. The research gives full details of three algorithms that operationalize the smallest visible object method, together with some empirical results. A comparison of the results produced by the new algorithms with those produced by manual generalization and Douglas method of data reduction is provided. Also this paper presents the preliminary results of an relationships between the size of smallest visual object and requiring data storages for each algorithms.
The paleoseismological importance of the Yangsan fault zone was examined by historical earthquake data, aerial photograph, and trench survey of the area. Occurrences of great earthquakes during the historical time indicate that the Yangsan and/or Ulsan fault have been active during the late Quaternary and generated historical events. Geomorphological evidences of the recent fault activity are clearly shown both in the northern segment (Yugye-ri, Tosung-ri and Naengsu-ri areas) and in the southern segment (Eonyang to Tongdosa areas) of the Yangsan fault. The main Yangsan fault is characterized by fault gouges and NNE-SSW lineaments. The reverse faulting in the Yugye-ri area generated about three-mater displacement of the lower terrace deposits. On the other hand, a major strike-slip movement with a minor component of 5-12 m vertical displacement was identified by the offset of the higher terrace surface in the Eonyang area.

This study developed a Bayesian spatial regional frequency analysis, which aimed to analyze spatial patterns of design rainfall by incorporating geographical information (e.g. latitude, longitude and altitude) and climate characteristics (e.g. annual maximum series) within a Bayesian framework. There are disadvantages to considering geographical characteristics and to increasing uncertainties associated with areal rainfall estimation on the existing regional frequency analysis. In this sense, this study estimated the parameters of Gumbel distribution which is a function of geographical and climate characteristics, and the estimated parameters were spatially interpolated to derive design rainfall over the entire Han-river watershed. The proposed Bayesian spatial regional frequency analysis model showed similar results compared to L-moment based regional frequency analysis, and even better performance in terms of quantifying uncertainty of design rainfall and considering geographical information as a predictor.

Due to the increasing demand to utilize water fronts and water resource effectively, a multi-dimensional model that provides detailed hydraulic characteristics is required in order to improve the decision making process. An EFDC model is a kind of multi-dimension model, and it requires detailed 3D (3-dimensional) terrain in order to simulate the hydraulic characteristics of stream flow. In the case of 3D terrain creation, especially river reaches, measurement resolution and spatial interpolation methods affect the detailed 3D topography which uses input data for EFDC simulation. Such results make hydraulic characteristics to be varied. This study aims to examine EFDC simulation results depending on the 3D topographies derived by separate measurement resolution and spatial interpolation methods. The study area is at the confluence of the Nakdong and Kuemho Rivers and the event rain implemented was Typhoon Ewiniar in 2006. As a result, in the case of the area-elevation curve, the difference by means of the interpolation methods was significant when applying the same measurement resolution, except at 160m resolution. Furthermore, when the measurement resolution was 80m or above, the difference in a cross-section was occurred. Meanwhile, the water level changes between interpolation methods were insignificant by the measurement resolution except when the Kriging method was used for the 160m measurement data. Velocity changes emerged according to the interpolation methods when measurement resolution was 80m or above and the Kriging method resulted in a velocity that had a considerable gap in relation to the results from other methods at a measurement resolution of 160m.
In this study we examined the geomorphological and geological characteristics of the granite landforms in the Iksan area. Moreover we investigated the source areas of stones which are used to build the Mieruksaji west stone pagoda. Joint is most identifiable geomorphological and geological structure in the Iksan area. Direction of J1 joint appears to be N71°E∼EW, and that of J2 joint ranges N20°W∼N20°E. Cross-pattern joint is predominant in the study area, and linen.-pattern vertical joint is also observed. Tor and corestone are easily found as geomorphological features in the study area. Corestones forming for are almost 2∼3 m across and 2∼3 m or over 5 m high. Their hardness is mainly of hammer bounce. Tower-type and castle-type of for are characteristic in the Mireuksan granites. Other geomorphological features such as tafoni, gnamma are also observed in the study area. Petrographical and geochemical features of the stones used for the Mireuksaji west stone pagoda are compared with those of the granites cropped out nearby, and indicate that the stones from the Mieruksaji west stone pagoda are quite similar to the Mireuksan granites. In the Mireuksan we can easily find lots of old traces for rock cutting.
