To investigate the influence of the rock mass inhomogeneity caused by layer geometry on the regional stress distribution the cuboid models considering a homogenous rock mass, inhomogeneous rock mass with plane layers and with uneven layers were analyzed and discussed. It was confirmed that the structure and existence of layers in rock mass affected the regional stress distribution. An approach based on an inverse analysis of the measured local stresses and the 3D finite element analysis was suggested, and used to estimate the regional stress field of the homogeneous and inhomogeneous models, which consist of the surface geometry of ground and both the surface and layer geometry respectively. Additionally, the approach of the regional stress considering the layer geometry in the rock mass was verified to estimate the regional stress field for a site.
Geoacoustic modeling is used to predict sound transmission through submarine bottom layers of sedimentary strata and acoustic basement. This study reconstructed four geoacoustic models for sediments of 50 m thick at the Jeongdongjin area in the western continental margin of the East Sea. Bottom models were based on the data of the highresolution air-gun seismic and subbottom profiles (SBP) with sediment cores. P-wave speed was measured by the pulse transmission technique, and the resonance frequency of piezoelectric transducers was maintained at 1MHz. Measurements of 42 P-wave speeds and 41 attenuations were fulfilled in three core sediments. For actual modeling, the P-wave speeds of the models were compensated to in situ depth below the sea floor using the Hamilton method. These geoacoustic models of coastal bottom strata will be used for geoacoustic and underwater acoustic experiments reflecting vertical and lateral variability of geoacoustic properties in the Jeongdongjin area of the East Sea.
Geoacoustic model comprises physical and acoustic properties of submarine bottom layers influencing sound transmission through sea water and underwater. This study suggested for the first time that we made a geoacoustic model of long-coring bottom layers at the SSDP-105 drilling site of the Ulsan coastal area, which is located in the southwestern inner shelf of the East Sea. The geoacoustic model of 52 m depth below seafloor with three-layer geoacoustic units was reconstructed in the coastal sedimentary strata at 79 m in water depth. The geoacoustic model was based on the data of a deep-drilled sediment core of SSDP-105 and sparker seismic profiles in the study area. For actual modeling, the geoacoustic property values of the models were compensated to in situ depth values below the sea floor using the Hamilton modeling method. We suggest that the geoacoustic model be used for geoacoustic and underwater acoustic experiments of mid- and low-frequency reflecting on the deep bottom layers in the Ulsan coastal area of the East Sea.
For the elastic migation, the velocity errors between the initial velocity model and true velocity model seriously affect the migrated images. The assumption of an initial velocity model, thus, is one of the critical factor for the successful migration. In case of applying the layered earth model as an initial velocity model, the layer boundary having large velocity contrast can not be defined well with conventional traveltime calculation algolithms and we have the difficulties for expressing the characteristics of the real subsurface. Smooth Background Model (SBM) we have applied as an initial velocity model in our study is characterized to be linearly varying the velocity with the depth, which can express the velocity variation in the subsurface properly. Thus it can properly be applied to traveltime calculation algolithms such as Vidale's method. In this study, Kirchhoff operator for prestack migration was used and the absolute amplitude obtained by modeling was applied as a weighted value to consider the true amplitude for initial model. Initial velocity model for migration was determined by using stacking velocity and we applied this model to real data.

Borehole Data is geotechnical information provided so that workers can safely perform construction at the field. It creates 3D data and supports viewing as a 3D image. Currently, all Korean companies that develop programs using 3D visualization use the MVS program developed by C Tech Development Corporation. However, the MVS program is a commercial program, and it is difficult to use MVS in 3D related programs developed by Korean Companies. In this paper, we propose to develop a program that can replace MVS to generate a 3D stratum model from clustered borehole information using Python's Gempy open-source. The 3D stratum model program can creates point data for each stratum and can creates a surface for each stratum through interpolation. Then, the 3D stratum model program is completed by merging the surfaces of each stratum. It was confirmed that there was no difference when a 3D model was created and compared with the MVS program and the proposed program from the borehole data of a Goyang area.

It is important to ensure the seismic safety of pile-bent bridges constructed in areas with thick soft ground consisting of various soil layers against seismic motion in these layers. In this study, several synthetic seismic waves that are compatible with the seismic design spectrum for rock sites were generated, and the ground acceleration history of each soil layer was obtained based on ground analyses. Using these acceleration histories, each soil layer was modeled using equivalent linear springs, and multi-support excitation analyses were performed using the input motion obtained at each soil layer. Due to the nonlinear behavior of the soft soil layers, the intensity of the input ground motion was not amplified, which resulted in the elastic behavior of the bridge. In addition, inputting the acceleration history obtained from a particular layer simultaneously into all the ground springs reduced the response. Therefore, the seismic performance of this type of bridge might be overestimated if multi-excitation analysis is not performed.

In this paper, we propose an algorithm for estimating media characteristics of sea water and subbottom multi-layers. The proposed algorithm for estimating reflection coefficients, uses a transmitted signal and reflected signal obtained from multiple layers of various shape and structure, and the algorithm is called Schur algorithm. The algorithm is efficient in estimating the reflection coefficients since it finds solution by converting the given inverse scattering problem into matrix factorization. To verify the proposed algorithm, we generate a transmit signal and reflected signal obtained from lattice filter model for sea water and subbottom of multi-level non-homogeneous layers, and then find that the proposed algorithm can estimate reflection coefficients efficiently.
In the mid-eastern Yellow Sea, glacio-eustatic sea-level fluctuations and a regional tectonic subsidence have combined to represent an aggradational stacking pattern of sedimentary units during late Pleistocene-Holocene. The accumulated sediments are divisible into two-type units of Type-A and Type-B in high-resolution air-gun seismic profiles and the deep-drilled core of YSDP-105. Type-A unit largely comprises clast-rich coarse-grained sediments of non-marine to paralic origin, whereas Type-B unit consists mostly of tidal fine-grained sediments. Based on a bottom model of the sedimentary units, this study suggested a geoacoustic model of long-coring bottom layers at the YSDP-105 drilling site of the mid-eastern Yellow Sea. The geoacoustic model of 64-m depth below the seafloor with four-layer geoacoustic units was reconstructed in continental shelf strata at 45 m in water depth. For actual modeling, the geoacoustic property values of the models were compensated to in situ depth values below the seafloor using the Hamilton modeling method. We suggest that the geoacoustic model will be used for geoacoustic and underwater acoustic experiments of mid- and low-frequency reflecting on the deep bottom layers in the mid-eastern Yellow Sea.
Constructive learning is an active process of meaning construction and students decide their individual learning objectives according to their own interest concern and ability. The purpose of this study is to develop a teaching-learning model and classroom materials from constructivist perspectives and to apply them to an elementary school classroom in Seoul for one month. In this study, it was reorganized the contents of unit of 'beds and fossils' based on the discussion between students and teacher during the second semester of 4th grade class. The teaching-learning model consists of five steps: 1) introduction; 2) exercise; 3) presentation; 4) consensus; and 5) development. The implementation results were summarized.
We setup a continuous measurement system for electrical conductivity of fluid in a model borehole and verified the basic environments in electrical conductivity measurement for estimating hydraulic constants. The experiment was made by monitoring the conductivity change within the hole using NaCI solution of different salinities and incoming formation fluid using distilled water. The experiment was made under the state of constant flow rate by maintaining balance between inflow and outflow. Conductivity variation features were observed by controlling salinity contrasts and temperature differences between fluid within the hole and incoming formation fluid. flow rate and the location of inlet and outlet. The results of the experiment show well the role of each affecting factor on the conductivity distribution. and suggest appropriate environments for conductivity measurements. It is considered that the basis of the conductivity measurement for henceforward laboratory model and/or in-situ borehole experiment has been prepared.
