The Purpose of this study is to explore if people with intellectual disabilities can play a role as 'meaningful informants' in research process in Korea, by challenging the existing paradigm which consists of suspicion on the communication ability of people with intellectual disabilities and truthlessness of their statements, which results in ignorance on the covered life of people with intellectual disabilities. In this research, lessons which could learn through reinterpretation of my research experience are as follows. Firstly, the deficits of communication ability can be supplemented with restructuring interview instruments such as research questions, visual aids etc and adopting conversation analysis methods. Secondly, Suspicion on the truthlessness of their statements can be restructured by epistemological and methodological reinterpretation on the representation of social reality. Thirdly, the mechanism of exclusion and oppression according to the ignorance can be substituted by 'uncovering the life of people with intellectual disabilities', which can be basis of reconstructing the contents of programmes in the disability service centers and disability policies in the government. With these research results it could be argued that there needs to include people with intellectual disabilities as meaningful informants in the research projects funded by the government and also to provide people with intellectual disabilities with diverse roles in the research process by virtue of the development of qualitative research methods in the near future.

The purpose is to provide the basic information about the changes of the social distance, disability awareness, and activity satisfaction of the occupational therapy students through the parachute play. The subjects were 10 students in the third grade of the occupational therapy. They participated in the parachute play for 4 weeks. Their social distance, disability awareness and activity satisfaction were evaluated. The results showed the changes that the social distance was decreased, disability awareness and the activity satisfaction was increased after the play. Thus, to form the positive social distance and disability awareness and increase the activity satisfaction, the parachute play should be provided for the occupational therapy students.

This study proposes design of courseware based on scaffolding for teaching math word problem solving of students with intellectual disabilities. This courseware not only offer various technological supports to solving difficult problems of students with intellectual disabilities but also systematically withdraw that supports. Compared with previous related softwares, this courseware has potential that can adapt math strategies to meet different needs of individuals with intellectual disabilities, increase independent learning ability of learners and maintain high level of motive through successful problem solving experience.

The aim of this study is to suggest the change of behavior and motor skill of children with intellectual disabilities participating functional games using virtual reality. For this purpose, 5 children with intellectual disabilities completed a 16-week functional game program twice a week. The result was as following; the application of functional games using virtual reality has positive effect on behavior and motor skill -static coordination, hand motion coordination, normal motion coordination, motor speed, simultaneous spontaneous motion, single motion competency. The application and utilization of functional games using virtual reality systematically of children with intellectual disabilities can bring an improvement on their overall development.

The abuses on the people with disabilities reported through mass media are, in most cases, related to intellectually disabled people, who are vulnerable to abuse. Nevertheless, the actual condition of the abuses on the intellectually disabled people that had remained unrevealed was examined according to socio-demographic variables, social support network, the ability to perform daily activities, and the type of belonging of the handicapped in each age group. Based on these research results, it has been proposed to operate a rest program for their guardians as main caretakers, to improve the education and evaluation programs for activity assistants, and to enhance the quality of integration.

This study analyzed the effect of self-determination of the intellectually disabled on the quality of life, focusing on the effect of controlling family functions, with the intellectually disabled as the subject of the study. In order to achieve this goal, it was designated as an intellectual disabled person at the early age of 18 to 25 who were diagnosed with intellectual disabilities, and it was selected as a disabled person living in the community, and it selected major welfare institutions that were most frequently used by people with intellectual disabilities in the early age of 20 years, considering the difficulties of conducting the survey. The research results are as follows. First, "self-determination, psychological capacity, and self-realization" of the intellectually disabled were found to affect the quality of life (physical well-being, physical well-being, social well-being, productive activities and development, psychological and emotional well-being). Second, differences in "self-determination (self-reliance, psychological capacity, self-realization)" did not occur in accordance with the "population statistical. Third, differences occurred in the "quality of life (physical well-being, physical well-being, social well-being, productive activities and development, psychological and emotional well-being" of the intellectually disabled. Fourth, the relationship between "self-determination" and "quality of life" of the intellectually disabled resulted in the adjustment effect of family functions. This study is meaningful in that it demonstrated the service practice that should be provided to people with early adult intellectual disabilities in the field of practice by verifying the relationship between self-determination, family function and quality of life viewed from the perspective of the parties.

Objective : We try to show the necessity of crafts and arts comparing visual perception of autism with that of mental retardation using craft programmes. Methods : We applied a visual perception programme after sorting 10 autism and 10 mental retardation according to criteria. A used craft programmes are consulted and produced by specialist who are applying crafts as treatment or have experienced applying crafts. The items included potter, mobile art, wheat flour kneading, clay, corrugated cardboard work and color mix work. We applied the programmes twice a week during 4 weeks and used motor-free visual perception test-third edition(MVPT-3) to investigate the effect before and after treatments. Results : First, craft programmes had effect on both autism and mental retardation. Second, craft programmes had more effect on mental retardation. Conclusion : We could know that craft programmes influenced on visual perceptional development of autism and mental retardation.

Intellectual disability is an imperfect disorder in which mental development is permanently retarded and development of intellectual ability is inadequate. Having intellectual disabilities makes it difficult to handle their own work and adapt to social life. For this reason, it is difficult to hygienically manage the patient's oral condition, multiple caries are easily observed, and the periodontal disease incidence rate is high. The patient in this case is a 33-year-old female with a mental retardation first grade who had a problem with meals. In first visit, Patients had decreased occlusal vertical dimension and posterior bite collapse due to periodontitis and multiple caries. This case reports a satisfactory functional and esthetic results by reconstructing occlusion using partial removable dental prosthesis.

The aim of this research was to examine whether the sensory integration video modeling intervention would be beneficial to the children with intellectual disabilitiy. Four children with intellectual disabilitiy participated and the A-B-A design was utilized in this study. In the intervention phase, each individual watched his/her own 8 minutes long previously recorded video which was the independent variable in this study. The dependent variables were (1) the self-initiation and task performance of the four sensory integration activities, (2) performance time of Grooved Pegboard. During the intervention period, each individual participated in the occupational therapy session twice a week. The result showed that sensory integration video modeling increased self-initiation and task performance of the participants. Self-initiation and the task performance scores of the participants were maintained even after the intervention period. When Grooved Pegboard was administered, the performance time decreased. The findings indicated that sensory integration video modeling may be an effective intervention for improving self-initiation and task performance and reducing inattentiveness in children with intellectual disabilitiy. In the future research, it is suggested that the level of cognition and sensory processing capabilities of the participants be considered to validate the effectiveness of sensory integration video modeling.

The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of therapeutic horse riding on adult with intellectual disability in terms of adaptive behavior. The subjects were 16 adults with intellectual disability. They participated in a therapeutic horse riding program of 60 minutes long, Twice a week for 12 weeks. The participants' adaptive behavior level were measured before and after 12 weeks of program with Social Maturity Scale. The data was analyzed by paired t-test using the SPSS. After 12 weeks of therapeutic horse riding program, there was a significant improvements on self-help, task, self-regulation & socialization. However, locomotion, communication changes did not reach statistical significance. The result indicates that therapeutic horse riding has a positive effect on adults with intellectual disability in self-help, task, self-regulation & socialization. This study suggests that therapeutic horse riding could be considered an effective method on adults with intellectual disability to improve adaptive behavior.
