  • Hwagae area, which is situated in the southeastern part of the Jirisan province, Yeongnam massif, Korea, is mainly composed of Precambrian Jirisan metamorphic rock complex (JMRC). Lithofacies distribution of the Precambrian constituent rocks mainly shows NS-trending tight fold and EW-trending open fold. This paper researched deformational phased structural characteristics of JMRC based on the geometric and kinematic features and the forming sequence of multi-deformed rock structures, and suggests that the geological structure of this area was formed through at least three phases of ductile deformation. (1) Most of structural elements related to the $D_1$ deformation were recognized as $S_{0-1-2}$ composite foliation which was transposed by the $D_2$ deformation. (2) The $D_2$ deformation occurred under the EW-directed tectonic compression, and formed the NS-trending $F_2$ fold and $D_2$ ductile shear zone which is (sub)parallel to the axial plane of $F_2$ fold. (3) The $D_3$ deformation occurred under the NS-directed tectonic compression, and partially reoriented the pre-$D_3$ structural elements into ENE or WNW direction. It indicates that the distribution of Precambrian lithofacies showing NS and EW-trending folds in the Hwagae area is closely associated with the $D_2$ and $D_3$ deformations, respectively.

  • This study reviewed mineral composition on Scoria samples of this area, atomic value state of oxidized steel, and magnetic property in order to look into characteristics of scoria that was distributed in southern area of mountainous areas, Halla Mt. of Jeju Island. By XRD analysis, mineral composition was confirmed, and characteristics of iron compounds existed in samples were investigated through $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$ spectroscope. Composing minerals could be learnt as feldspar basalt from XRD analysis because composting minerals were composed of quartz and feldspar anorite mainly, and iron compounds were made up with olivine, pyroxene, ilmenite, hematite, and magnetite. By $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$ spectroscope analysis on these iron compounds. it consisted of hematite and magnetite which showed hyperfine magnetic field of sextet mostly, and also doublet by olivine, pyroxene, ilmenite could be seen as appearing together. As a result of comparing with samples of Jeju western area having been announced in previous research, I.S. and Q.S. values of olivine, $Fe^{2+}$, were 122 mm/s and 3.09~3.13 mm/s respectively, and a fact could be known that $Fe^{2+}$ olivine having similar structure each other was contained, and the ratio of $Fe^{3+}/Fe_{tot.}$. was 85.90~92.82 %. From these findings, it was able to be presumed that they belonged to samples having been formed on the land at the same period of time. As a result of investigating area ratio of tetrahedron (A site) and octahedron (B site) regarding magnetite in samples, it was turn out to be 0.22~0.55 less than 2.

  • A three layered neural network model was developed using back propagation algorithm to estimate the UU undrained shear strength of Korean soft soil based on the database of actual undrained shear strengths and piezocone measurements compiled from 8 sites over the Korea. The developed model was validated by comparing model predictions with measured values about new piezocone data, which were not previously employed during development of model. Performance of the neural network model was also compared with conventional empirical methods. It was found that the number of neuron in hidden layer is different for the different combination of transfer functions of neural network models. However, all piezocone neural network models are successful in inferring a complex relationship between piezocone measurements and the undrained shear strength of Korean soft soils, which give relatively high coefficients of determination ranging from 0.69 to 0.72. Since neural network model has been generalized by self-learning from database of piezocone measurements and undrained shear strength over the various sites, the developed neural network models give more precise and generally reliable undrained shear strengths than empirical approaches which still need site specific calibration.

  • This study is based on the observation on the patterned ground found in the northern part of the Baekdusan during two fieldtrips of 2008 summer. The patterned grounds are found in two areas-Dalmun and Socheonji. The patterned ground found around Dalmun are well-sorted, having fine materials in the center and coarse (boulder size) materials in the rim, and stretching in the form of stairs. Meanwhile, the types of patterned ground found around Socheonji are various, including polygon, stripe, and circular patterns. The particle size analysis and morphological analysis of comprising materials are carried out only for the patterned ground of Socheonji. The mean short and long axis of the patterned grounds are 91cm and 163cm, respectively. The distribution pattern of material size from the most samples increase toward the rim, indicating the patterned grounds are well-sorted. The comprising materials are dominated by silt, which is very susceptible for freeze-thaw cycle. The lower ratio of clay (low less than 10%), suggests that physical weathering is more dominant rather than chemical weathering. The involution structure found in the vertical section of the patterned grounds is likely to have formed by active cryoturbation which is one of the dominant geomorphic processes in the periglacial environments like the study area.

  • Innovation is not only one of the factors determining the competitiveness of national regions, but also an engine for economic development, and plays an important role in breaking out of the trap of middle-income countries. This paper constructs a regional innovation index from the perspectives of innovation input, innovation output, and innovation environment, and measures the regional innovation index of 31 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions in China from 2006 to 2019 by using principal component analysis and cluster analysis. The results concluded that there are large provincial and municipal differences in China's regional innovation capacities, and the provinces with higher comprehensive levels are mainly concentrated in the southeastern coastal region. Cluster analysis divides the 31 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions into five types, and the results find that the respectively developed coastal regions are in the high-level and the high-level regions relying on the advantages of location and national policies.

  • Community recently pays attention to participation, network, and partnership of local residents and community stakeholders for the purpose of solving community problems and issues. This is the typical characteristics of local governance as an institutional setting to solve the problems which communities face with. The aim of this study is to attempt an analysis of local governance from the perspective of community welfare. To do that, it especially focuses on 'Gwangju Greenway' as a case. Participation of and communications among local residents strengthen their community's capabilities to deal with problems and seek better solutions. Above all, networking and cooperation between local government and local residents are required to improve the quality of local residents' participation at the process of planning and policy-making in the area of community welfare. 'Gwangju Greenway' is a good example of community welfare in that local residents actively seek to solve their own problems and realize common good within their local community through the improvement of social interaction and solidarity among local residents, thus resulting in good quality of life.

  • This study was conducted to survey the population of water birds wintering at the seven coastal wetlands of Jeollanam province including Suncheon Bay and Yeongsan Lake, from 2000 through 2003. The 90 species and 857,570 individuals in total were sighted at the seven survey sites. We classified the wintering water birds into seventeen groups of taxa based on the similar ecological attributes, among which, eight groups were found to inhabit the water surface or riparian areas. Classified groups that showed higher rate of using bay areas than that of lake areas were in the order of waders, gulls and swans. On the other hand, the groups that showed higher rate of using lake areas than that of using bay areas were revealed in the order of dabbling ducks, grebes and geese. In conclusion, there was a difference in the pattern between the two classified groups. As a result of the UPGMA cluster analysis using CCs ($S{\varnothing}rensen'a$ index of similarity and Ro (Horn's index of community overlap), the results showed that Suncheon Bay had the most unique species formation out of the seven areas. Bay and lake areas were different from each other in the formation of species and Individuals. As a result of combining the index rank according to the maximum aggregate count, the Suncheon Bay is ranked the highest in importance of the habitats for water birds, followed by the order of Boseong-Deukryang Bay, Gangjin Bay, Gocehongam Lake, Geumho Lake, Yeomam Lake, and Yeongsan Lake. Considered overall, the importance of the bay areas was relatively higher than that of reclaimed lake areas.

  • Wireless sensor networks (WSN) consisting of a largenumber of sensors aims to gather data in a variety of environments and is beingused and applied in many different fields. The sensor nodes composing a sensornetwork operate on battery of limited power and as a result, high energyefficiency and long network lifetime are major goals of research in the WSN. Inthis paper we propose a novel cluster-based local multi-hop routing protocolthat enhances the overall energy efficiency and guarantees reliability in thesystem. The proposed protocol minimizes energy consumption for datatransmission among sensor nodes by forming a multi-hop in the cluster. Moreover, through local cluster head rotation scheme, it efficiently manageswaste of energy caused by frequent formation of clusters which was an issue inthe existing methods. Simulation results show that our scheme enhances energyefficiency and ensure longer network time in the sensor network as comparedwith existing schemes such as LEACH, LEACH-C and PEACH.
