Initial Climb Mission Analysis of a Solar HALE UAV (태양광 고고도 장기체공 무인기의 초기 상승 임무 분석)

  • In this research, how a solar powered HALE (high altitude long endurance) UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) can climb and reach mission altitude, 18km, starting from the ground using only solar energy. A glider type aircraft was assumed as a baseline configuration which has wing area of $35.98m^2$ and aspect ratio of 25. Configuration parameters, lift and drag coefficients were calculated using OpenVSP and XFLR5 that are NASA open source programs, and climb flights were predicted through energy balance between available energy from solar power and energy necessary for a climb flight. Minimum time climb flight was obtained by minimizing flight velocities at each altitude and total time and total energy consumption to reach the mission altitude were predicted for different take off time. Also, aircraft moving distances due to westerly wind and flight speed were calculated.

  • T-DMB is using MPEG-4 BIFS standard format for broadcasting interactive data service. BIFS enables us to represent contents as a scene which consists of various objects such as AV, image, graphic, and text. It also enables us to control objects by using user interaction. BIFS was designed to be adapted to multimedia systems with various input devices. Today, however, we are in lack of considering about mobile device with restricted input unit. The problem is that a consistent user control of interactive data contents is not possible due to the limitations of input units in T-DMB terminals. To solve the problem, we defined KeyNavigator node that provides a means to select or navigate objects (like menu) in BIFS contents by arrow keys and enter key of mobile terminal. By using KeyNavigater node, not only BIFS contents providers can make BIFS contents as they want, but also users can get a way to control BIFS contents consistently and easily.

  • Attitude determination algorithms for aircraft and land vehicles use earth gravitational vector and geomagnetic vector; hence, magnetometers and accelerometers are employed. In dynamic situation, the output from accelerometers includes not only gravitational vector but also motional acceleration, thus it is hard to determine accurate attitude. The acceleration compensation method treated in this paper solves the problem to compensate the specific force vector for motional acceleration calculated by a GPS receiver. This paper analyzed the error from the corrected vector regarded as a constant by conventional acceleration compensation method, and improve the error by rederivation from measurements. The analyzed error factors and improvements by the proposed algorithm are verified by computer simulations.

  • T-DMB (Terrestrial-DMB) service is now available in the metropolitan area, but due to the bandwidth limitation, it is allowed to provide up to CIF resolution. As users' requests for high-quality mobile multimedia services are rapidly increasing and additional bandwidth can be provided by adopting the hierarchical modulation transmission technology, the research on the Advanced Terrestrial-DMB(AT-DMB) service using the SVC(Scalable Video Coding) scheme is being actively studied. In this paper, through computer simulations, first, while keeping the current T-DMB service unchanged, the visual qualities of AT-DMB services are investigated by varying the additional bandwidth. Then, by considering the cases that the overall bandwidth can be allowed to dynamically allocate to the T-DMB/AT-DMB video services, the performance characteristics between two layers are compared over the different kinds of video sequences.

A Generalized Advanced Region Correlation (G-ARC) Scheme for BOC(pn,n) Modulated Code Tracking in GNSS (BOC(pn,n) 변조된 확산신호의 부호동기추적을 위한 일반화된 이른영역상관기법)

  • This paper proposes a novel code tracking scheme to track the fine code synchronization for BOC(pn,n) modulated spreading signals. The correlation function of BOC(pn,n) modulated spreading signals has been several peaks. In this paper, we observe that the correlation function in the advanced offset region remains almost unchanged, due to the multipath signals being received later than a line-of-sight signal. Based on this observation, we propose a novel code tracking scheme which is called the advanced region correlation (ARC) method for BOC(n,n) modulated spreading signals. And, we compare with the code tracking accuracy between the conventional and proposed methods in the static multipath and land mobile satellite system channels through the Monte-Carlo simulation. Then, base on the proposed scheme, we propose the generalized-ARC (ARC) scheme for BOC(pn, n) modulated spreading signals.

  • In digital video broadcasting-terrestrial (DVB-T), which is the European digital terrestrial television standard, the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) has been adopted for signal transmission. The main reasons using OFDM are to increase the robustness against the frequency selective fading and impulse noise, and to use available bandwidth efficiently. However, channel variation within an OFDM symbol destroys orthogonality between subcarriers, resulting in inter-carrier interference (ICI), which increases an error floor in proportional to maximum Doppler spread. This paper provides an ICI analysis in both time and frequency domains while existing literatures analyze the ICI effects mainly in frequency domain and proposes the algorithms that estimate the channel impulse response and channel variation using least square (LS) algorithm which is the most simple channel estimation technique. And we propose adaptive channel estimation algorithm that estimates the velocity of terminals. The simulation results show that proposed algorithm has similar performance with about 1.5% computational complexity of noise and ICI reduction LS algorithm in low speed environments.

Research of the Signal Processing techniques applied to the Command Link Receiver of High Speed Aircrafts (고속 비행체 명령수신기 신호처리 기법 연구)

  • In this paper, we propose the signal processing techniques for the command link receiver mounted to aircrafts flying at a high speed. In order to acquire the various information transmitted from ground through radio frequency links, the wide received signal range must be guaranteed as well as the carrier synchronization and symbol synchronization be performed correctly within short pulse sections. After the synchronization step, we should be able to achieve theoretical performance of the modulation and demodulation scheme applied as deciding bit and symbol at the time appointed. By test results, we make sure that the proposed signal processing techniques can be effectively applied command link receiver mounted to aircrafts.

  • This study deals with GPS-photogrammetry practicability by C/A-code reception. It allows data to be acquired and analyzed fast. Combined block adjustment method was applied at the topographical map production of coast-land. And we compared it that of conventional block adjustment. As a result, it was found that accuracy was very sensitive to the arrangement and number of control points. The accuracy in the horizontal and vertical was $\pm{2cm}$ if all of the control points was available. however accuracy was not affected at additional parameters for systematic errors' elimination and it leads to bad results when the number of control points was few and arrangement of control points was not stabilized. GPS observations were added in block adjustment, but the accuracy of block was not upgraded due to the low accuracy of C/A-code reception. So relative positioning method with carrier phases was required for high accuracy and it is expected that CPS photogrammetry with C/A-code will be used widely according to the improvement of observation methods and the development of receiver.

Correction of Geometric Distortion of Internet Aerial Imagery and Photo-Realistic 3D Building Modeling (인터넷 항공영상의 왜곡보정과 실감적 3차원 건물 모델링)

  • Many internet portals provide maps with spatial information services. Recently, various images including aerial, satellite, street view, and photo-realistic 3D city models are provided as well as maps. This study suggested a method for geometric correction of the panoramic aerial images in the internet portal and 3D building modeling using information which is available in the internet. The key of this study is to obtain all necessary data easily from internet without restrictions. Practically, the ground control coordinates could be available from geo-referenced internet maps, and stereo pairs of the aerial images and close-range photographs for photo-realistic object modeling are provided by the internet service. However, the ground control points are not suitable for accurate mapping. RMSE of the plotting was about 9 meters and reduced upto 4 meters after coordinate transformation. The proposed methods would be applicable to various applications of photo-realistic object modeling which do not require high accuracy.

Determination of Permissible Shear Stresses on Vegetation Mats by Soil Loss Evaluation (토양 손실 평가에 의한 식생매트의 허용 소류력 결정)

  • By the activation of environment-friendly river works, application of vegetation mats is increasing, however, evaluation techniques for hydraulic stability of vegetation mats are not presented. This study is conducted to develop the objective test method for vegetation mats. Two kind of vegetation mats are tested by the real scale experiments, and hydraulic quantities are measured and analyzed to evaluate acting shear stresses. To evaluate soil loss, Terrestrial 3D LiDAR measurement is conducted and soil loss index are calculated from changes of bed elevation. Quantified evaluation for permissible shear stresses is conducted by graphical method for acting shear stresses and soil loss index. By the results of precision survey, changes of sub soil are limited to local range in stable cases and relatively large changes of sub soil which is similar to natural river bed are detected in unstable cases. From the study, evaluation of permissible shear stresses by ASTM D 6040 is avaliable in the failure mechanism and failure criteria by soil loss index.
