  • AT(Aerial Triangulation) is the essential procedure for creating orthophoto and transforming coordinates on the photographs into the real world coordinates utilizing GCPs (Ground Control Point) which is obtained by field survey and the external orientation factors from GPS/INS as a reference coordinates. In this procedure, all of the GCPs can be collected from field survey using GPS and Total Station, or obtained from digital maps. Collecting GCPs by field survey is accurate than GCPs from digital maps; however, lots of manpower should be put into the collecting procedure, and time and cost as well. On the other hand, in the case of obtaining GCPs from digital maps, it is very difficult to secure the required accuracy because almost things at each stage in the collecting procedure should rely on the subjective judgement of the performer. In this study, the results from three methods have been compared for the accuracy assessment in order to know if the results of each case is within the allowance error: for the perceivable objects such as road boarder, speed bumps, constructions etc., 1) GCPs selection utilizing the unique LiDAR intensity value reflected from such objects, 2) using LiDAR DSM and 3) GCPs from field survey. And also, AT and error analysis have been carried out w ith GCPs obtained by each case.

  • In this research, an effective method for absolute positioning of feature points is proposed, which is applicable to geo-referencing of terrestrial LiDAR data scanned in dense urban areas. GPS positioning, common in absolute positioning, is apt to fail in the presence of signal disturbancein dense urban circumstances, while traditional surveying methods, including traversing and leveling, are generally more costly for wider areas. The idea is that reference points, marked on top of buildings, are surveyed by GPS positioning and then feature points are relatively positioned from the reference points. The present method, if laser scanning is accompanied, gets two advantages; one is that less feature points need to be surveyed because they can be substituredby reference points, and the other is that laser scanning can be more stably carried out. The present method was shown, from the experiments, to be cost-effective against traditional ones.

  • In this paper, a camera modeling method that utilizes ephemeris data and imaging geometry is presented. The proposed method constructs a mathematical model only with parameters that are contained in auxiliary files and does not require any ground control points for model construction. Control points are only needed to eliminate geolocation error of the model that is originated from errors embedded in the parameters that are used in model construction. By using a few (one or two) control points, RMS error of around pixel size can be obtained and control points are not necessarily uniformly distributed in line direction of the scene. This advantage is crucial in large-scale projects and will enable to reduce project cost dramatically.

  • It's very difficult to acquire the accurate GCP(Ground Control Point) in the urban center and forest aerial photo because of occurring of irregular multi-path error. The purpose of this study is to apply the CPS and the EDM system for 3D orthophoto in the small areas. GCPs surveyed by accuracy triangulation from EDM after from triangulation points to a fiducial point at study area used to GPS. And I have a comment on how to use areal orthophoto for future 3D-GIS after 3D-Modelling using areal orthophoto. As the results, EDM surveying could resolve multi-path error according to GPS surveying and It is possible for using aerial orthophoto on the basis of the 3D-GIS database.

  • The control surveying which aims at identifying the coordinate system of satellite images with that of ground is a repeatedly performed essential process to produce digital ortho - photos and it acts as the main factor to increase the production cost of the photos by duplicated budgets and redundant works when executing the projects for acquiring basic geographical information from high density satellite images. During the experimentation, an application system was established for producing a stereo image chip by the analysis of DPPDB file structure, the stereo image chip was produced with SPOT and IKONOS images, the analysis of 3D modeling accuracy was performed to secure the required accuracy and to present the optimal number and deployment of the control points, and a 3D modeling was performed for new SPOT images and lastly, 3D ground coordinates were extracted by the observation of the same points through the overlapping with the new images. As the results of the research, it is proved that the stereo image chip can be used as the ground controls through the accuracy analysis between the coordinates of the images and the ground, close results were obtained between the coordinates by the ground survey and those by the 3D modeling using new images and the observation of the same points, positional changes were not found during observing the same points, and the research presented the methodology for improving the process of the control survey by showing the availability of the image controls on the stereo image chip instead of the ground controls.

  • Recently, the direct georeferencing has been becoming a common method in the aerial photogrammetry. As this direct georeferencing method using converged sensor of the digital photogrammetry camera and GPS(Global Positioning System)/INS(Inertial navaigation System), more rapid and accurate aerial photogrammetry has improved following advanced performance in photogrammetry. Since the accuracy of EO parameters from the direct georeferencing is determined by GPS/INS accuracy, it is significant to calculate the exact attitude information using values of INS rotations. For following calculations, the misalignment, such as INS rotation and the gap of GPS/INS, has to be decided. Because the number of ground control points are used for tirangulation and boresight calibration, those results should be different according to array and location of ground control points. In the study, those location and array of ground control points were tested to be used boresight calibration. As a result, there is no significant change of misalignment and exterior orienation parameters in the case when ground control points were at all course. On the contrarily, the difference has been shown in the case of no ground control point at course.

  • Ground control points are needed for precision geometric correction of satellite images, and the coordinates of a high-quality ground control point can be obtained from the GPS measurement. However, considering the GPS measurement requires an excessive amount o f t ime a nd e fforts, there is a need for coming up with an alternative solution to replace it. Therefore, we examined the possibility of replacing the existing GPS measurement with coordinates available at online maps to acquire the coordinates of ground control points. To this end, we examined error amounts between the coordinates of ground control points obtained through Daum Map API, and them compared the accuracies between three types of coordinate transformation equations which were used for geometric correction of satellite images. In addition, we used the coordinate transformation equation with the highest accuracy, the coordinates of ground control point obtained through the GPS measurement and those acquired through D aum M ap A PI, and conducted geometric correction on them to compare their accuracy and evaluate their effectiveness. According to the results, the 3rd order polynomial transformation equation showed the highest accuracy among three types of coordinates transformation equations. In the case of using mid-resolution satellite images such as those taken by Landsat-8, it seems that it is possible to use geometrically corrected images that have been obtained after acquiring the coordinates of ground control points through Daum Map API.

  • In order to correct the provided RPC and DEM generated from the high-resolution satellite images, the acquisition of the ground control point (GCP) must be preceded. This task is a very complicate that requires field surveys, GPS surveying, and image coordinate reading corresponding to GCPs. In addition, since it is difficult to set up and measure a GCP in areas where access is difficult or impossible (tidal flats, polar regions, volcanic regions, etc.), an alternative method is needed. In this paper, we propose a 3D surface matching technique using only the established ground coordinate package, avoiding the ground-image-location survey of the GCP to correct the DEM produced from WorldView-2 satellite images and the provided RPCs. The location data of the public control points were obtained from the National Geographic Information Institute website, and the DEM was corrected by performing 3D surface matching with this package. The accuracy of 3-axis translation and rotation obtained by the matching was evaluated using pre-measured GPS checkpoints. As a result, it was possible to obtain results within 2 m in the plane location and 1 m in height.
