Although the Dept. of Geography in Korea has contributed to the social development of Korea with a remarkable growth for a short period, their social status and influence have not greatly improved and the graduates in Geography do not have many job opportunities. The low social statue and the limited job opportunities of the Dept. of Geography in Korea was due to the failure of the creation of their demand and the expansion of their sphere in response to the social changes and developments of Korea. In France, the Dept. of Geography has raised their social standings through the suited curriculum system to generate their demand and enlarge their domain with the social changes and development of French. The Dept. of Geography in Korea also needs not only the expansion of sphere but the building of the proper curriculum system for the creation of demand.

It is generally found that geography majors' progression in society has a very limited scope in Korea and this is one of the causes of lessening geographers' job market. As an attempt to draw a solution to this problem, this paper, by a close examination of the French case, tries to discuss the possibility of geographers' participation in the public sector. Geographers' participation in political and social issues has long history. They acted as providers of geographical knowledge on human and physical features of the world and also as counsellors for effective administration and politics. French geographers evaluate that it is the characteristics of geography that enable geographers to progress into the public sector. They also perceive that such fields as regional development, environment, economy, tourism, international politics are possible ones for geographers. Some implications can be drawn from this case study to extend geographers' participation in the pubic sector in Korea; it is required to sustain open mind to every field of social sciences, to improve specialized as well as generalized knowledge on geographical features, and to provide practical knowledge on spatial analysis and management.

This study aims to understand history and adaptive strategies of Bitgoul iCOOP Consumer's Coopertive Association(BCCA). BCCA have twofold identity as civil society organization and economic management organization. Going through several ups and downs from the founding up to now date, BCCA has adapted successfully. The numbers of association member have steadily increased and activity areas have extended consistently. Moreover united activity with local civil society have expanded both quantitatively and qualitatively. These success results from store business which stated from 2008. But maintaining successful management conditions, the numbers of association member should increase steadily and staff organization have grown in size. At the results, BCAA have been bureaucratized and recruitment of core staffs is difficult more and more.

With the increased availability of spatial datasets and advances in data processing technologies, the last 50 years witnessed remarkable progress in the area of cartography and geoinformatics. Researchers in Korea involved in these area, however, were exposed to the new development only recently. They are now at the stage of absorbing the works of leading countries. There have been only a small number of research papers on the area of conventional cartography land use/vover mapping, mapping of distribution of slope calsses, and topographic models. It is only recently that the research scope be extended to computer-assisted cartography and Geographic Information System (GIS). The majority of research papers have been focused on the applications of GIS. Recently, a group of researchers begin to address some of the fundamental issues in GIS such as formal models, standization, data structure, spatial analysis and networking.
