  • This study is to analyse spatial impacts of tourism on fishing villages in Jeju island. The analysis shows that the location of tourist function - sea or land - has an influence on spatial use of pre-tourist and tourist function. The locational changes of tourist function are to be the indicator of the developmental stages, the uses of 'where' to be the phases, the uses of 'where' and 'what' to be the process in the spatial impacts of tourism on fishing villages. The phases are 'time combination $\longrightarrow$spatial combination $\longrightarrow$time combination', the process is 'widened range.diversification $\longrightarrow$ range.specialization' according as the tourist function of the sea changes into the land. This is to be risk management of the tourist function.

  • This paper is to elucidate geographical implications of fieldwork activities of everyday-life space of students of an elementary teachers college. The students depended mainly on questionaries and interview for gathering data during fieldwork. They had difficulty in processing data to visual-spatial representation, i.e. map, tables, and diagrams. But they were favourable for appling their fieldwork experiences to teaching the elementary geography. This is viewed as an unique behavioral orientation or desirable attitudes of students of an elementary teachers college. On the basis of the self-assessment and peer-assessment of fieldwork activities, it could be ascertained that the students came to understand the geographical value and significance of fieldwork activities. The fieldwork activities made them to heighten their interest of everyday-life space, and so to internalize positive their senses of place, to enforce their identities of place. • It is increasingly clear that student mastery of concepts and skills in geographic education is based on a complex set of variables. Sex and gender are the key variables. Much has been written about biological sex differences in learning, but less attention has been paid to the impacts of socio-cultural gender on learning geography. As such, the aims of this paper are two-fold. First, to examine theories which seek to explain why males and females might differ in their geographic and spatial knowledge or skill. Second, to examine the extent of sex differences and gender traits in the geographic learning. The results of study illustrate clearly that there are more similarities than differences between the sexes. Therefore, there are significant gender differences between the preferences of regions, contents, activities in the secondary geographic learning. The results also provide insights into improving contents and method of geographic education.

  • Since 2008 the administration of the President Lee Myung-bak is pursuing a new regional policy which differentiates from that of the last administration. It focuses on the maximizing the growth potential of the national territory and suggests the three-tiered regional development system. The paper aims to review the main contents and characteristics of the macro-economic region policy as a representative strategy in a new regional development policy and examine its achievements and the future tasks. Although it is limited to evaluate the accomplishments of the macro-economic region policy due to the short period of time (3 years), it has been successfully recognized that it would be more competitive if regional governments are supporting and connecting each other with neighboring regional governments. In addition, investments to each macro-economic region continue vigorously as planned. In order for the policy to be more successful in the future, however, it is necessary to substantially expand the development project, to systematically construct the governance structure, and to effectively process the industrial plans.

  • This study analyzes actor networks in regional innovation processes with a focus on actors' activities and finds the determinants of the networks, thereby aiming to provide information useful for regional innovation policy makers. To this end, the study conducted a social network analysis of the national R&D projects data and identified the activities of innovation actors. Finding out the network determinants was QAP analysis. The study suggests three main findings as follows. First, a meaningful difference exists in characteristics of innovation activity by region. Second, the network of innovation actors meaningfully differs from region to region. The centrality of the network was found to be high in universities and businesses in Seoul and Gyeonggi, and in public research institutes in Daejeon. There are regions where all the networks of innovative actors are composed of one component, while some regions are not yet established with the network. Finally, although the networks of innovation actors are influenced by the geographical proximity and the size of the R&D fund, it is notable that the previous continuous relationship forms a strong research network.
