  • Solar activities ejecting high energy particles influence satellites and satellite communications as well as perturb geomagnetic fields. To understand space environments near the Earth being influenced by the Sun, we must study about the magnetosphere, the ionosphere, and the atmosphere beforehand. To study this issue, we investigate some ionospheric models, atmospheric models and geomagnetic field models : IRI(International Reference Ionosphere), PIM(Parameterized Ionospheric Model) and IGRF(International Geomagnetic Reference Field). We develop the models and build a web site to serve IRI, PIM and IGRF model on the internet so that one can easily get information of daily and global ionospheric and geomagnetic variations.

  • Space environment has various hazard effects on satellite. These effects can not be experienced in earth ambient condition. In terrestrial space, plasma or atomic oxygen could erode satellite surface. Also ultra violet or particle radiation may damage surface materials or electronic parts which constitute satellite. So, in designing satellite, the natural environment of operational orbit should be investigated and appropriate mitigation should be prepared.

  • The polarized direction of MT field was analyzed using the MT dataset measured in the Korean Peninsula. The atmospherics above 1 Hz has a large dispersion of polarized direction, whereas the Schumann resonance near 8 Hz exhibits the predominant direction ranging from $N20^{\circ}W$ to NS. The electromagnetic field variations below 0.1 Hz, induced by magnetic pulsations, show a strongly polarized direction of nearly NS. It results from the regular pulsations since the regular pulsation fields, driven by Alfv.n's wave in the magnetosphere, has a worldwide predominant direction of NS. The MT field strongly polarized along NS direction causes the poorly behaved XY impedance.
