The purpose of this study is to identify factors that improve psychological health of Korean navies who are dispatched overseas. Specifically, we examined the effects of the navies' occupational calling, perceived social support, and their interaction on anxiety. One hundred thirty-eight dispatched navies were recruited, and they completed the Korean calling scale, multifaceted social support scale, and anxiety scale-Y form. Results showed that after controlling for gender, marital status, and the previous experiences of dispatch, those who had a higher level of occupational calling and social support experienced a lower level of anxiety respectively before they were dispatched overseas. Furthermore, the significant interaction effect between occupational calling and social support on anxiety confirms that the effect of social support on anxiety is more prominent for those who have lower level of occupational calling. We discussed the implications of these results, study limitations, and directions for future research.
The study aims to examine the effects of crime on societal anxiety. For this purpose, two studies were conducted. In study 1, the data were collected from 286 students(male 160, female 126) regarding perceived seriousness of crime, estimation of crime occurrence, societal anxiety, and estimation of change in these 3 variables every 3 years from 1993 to 2011. The means of the 3 variables were higher than the midpoint of the scale. And the means of all the 3 variables gradually increased from 1993 to 2011 and the change patterns were very similar. Furthermore, the estimation of crime occurrence and perceived seriousness of crime were significant predictors of societal anxiety. Study 2 was conducted to explore the effect of frequency estimation of the criminal acts on the societal anxiety. The data from 259 subjects(male 141, female 118) were analysed. The occurrence of frequency of 7 types of crimes including 25 criminal acts were estimated and societal anxiety was measured. The results of study 2 showed that only the major crime was significant a predictor of societal anxiety, and among the major crimes, arson was a significant predictor of the dependent variable. Implications and limits of the studies are discussed.

The purposes of this study were to find 1) the realities of social anxiety and perception of various kinds of social problems that exists in Korean society as well as the perception on the events that causes the social anxiety, 2) to see the difference of perceived level of social anxiety through variables of social demography and difference of perception on Korean society. The sample was distributed according to population size distinguishing the nation to 6 regions. The data of 1,375 adult respondents were analysed. The results are as follows. First of all, respondents mentioned that the most immediate problem to be solved in Korean society was financial anxiety, and the most desirable state of society was when the society is financially stabled. Single question was measured about social anxiety of Korean society and scored 6.84 from full marks of 10, showing difference in variables for instance sex, age, and subjective S.E.S. where women, aged under 20, and perceived low class group showed the highest rate of social anxiety. However, there weren't any difference found in social anxiety of the variables like presence of religion, educational background, residence, and monthly average household income. Also, there were differences in level of social anxiety according to the difference of perception of Korean society. Higher the perceived unpredictability, uncontrollability, and unmovability to the upper class, unfairness, and uncertainty, unreliability of the Korean society, higher the social anxiety. And the lower the perceived chance of success of reformation, higher the social anxiety. It was also found that the perceived social anxiety is influenced by social accidents and phenomenon as unemployment, economic depression, and the gap between rich and poor as well as the increase of crime through effluence of personal information. Finally the limitations and implications of this study were discussed.
This research examined the effect of social anxiety on psychological adaptation. Higher the social anxiety, higher in neurotism & worry but lower in Psychological Well-Being and Satisfaction with Life. Among the sub-factors of social anxiety, negative adaptation was significantly predicted by personal anxiety. However positive adaption were predicted by personal anxiety, fairness anxiety and future anxiety. Among the sub-dimensions of social anxiety, negative and positive adaptation were significantly predicted only by anticipatory anxiety. And there were significant positive correlations between social anxiety and aggressive/give-up response. Particularly, personal anxiety was the predictor of aggressive response, but safe anxiety and political anxiety were the predictors of give-up response. The dimension predicted the aggressive/give-up response was anticipatory anxiety dimension. Finally, respondents used problem solving stress coping strategy most. But the respondents whose social anxiety level especially safe anxiety and political anxiety were high used wishful thinking strategy. Moreover higher the reactive anxiety level, more frequently used the avoidance coping strategy.
The purpose of this study was to testify the relationship of parental psychological control perceived by young adults in twenties and their social anxiety, and the mediating effects of internalized shame and ambivalence over emotional expressiveness in the model. The online questionnaires were administered to 350 young adults in twenties to assess the four major variables(parental psychological control, internalized shame, ambivalence over emotional expressiveness and social anxiety). In correlation analysis, parental psychological control, social anxiety, internalized shame and ambivalence over emotional expressiveness were positively correlated. Bootstrapping method was used to test the mediating effects, and this study here is statistically significant revealing the path of parental psychological control to social anxiety by mediator such as internalized shame and ambivalence over emotional expressiveness. Finally, parental psychological control-social anxiety partial mediator model was supported. As a result of the study, the higher the level of parental psychological control, the higher the level of internalized shame and ambivalence over emotional expressiveness, and subsequently the higher the level of social anxiety in twenties. The implication and limitation of this study, and future tasks were discussed.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the degrees of and relationships between self-esteem, social support, and state anxiety in community-dwelling unmarried mother raising a child. Descriptive correlational study design was used. Data were collected from 65 participants with self-report questionnaires from May to December, 2011. First, the mean of self-esteem was 3.52, social support 3.49, and state anxiety 2.47 respectively. Second, the correlation between self-esteem and social support was also statistically significant(r=.286, p=.021), the correlation between self-esteem and state anxiety was statistically significant(r=-.780, p=<.001), and the correlation between social support and state anxiety was also statistically significant(r=-.425, p=<.001). Self-esteem for unmarried mother raising a child in the study was confirmed as the primary important concept. Also, the correlation between social support and state anxiety was verified as significant. Therefore, study is needed to develop a nursing intervention program for self-esteem and social support improvement, and state anxiety decrease of unmarried mother raising a child.
This study was conducted to investigate the factors affecting the social anxiety in nursing students. A total of 227 nursing students participated in the study. Data were analyzed by frequencies, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple stepwise regression with SPSS WIN 18.0. The mean scores for problem solving ability and social anxiety were at the intermediate level. Problem solving ability negatively correlated with social anxiety. The significant predictors of social anxiety included cognitive reaction within the seven problem solving ability subscales and perceived interpersonal relationship. The regression model explained 22.6% of social anxiety. As a result, to decrease social anxiety in nursing students, nursing educators should develop educational intervention programs to change cognitive distortions presented in unfamiliar social situations and improve interpersonal relationships ability.
It has now been more than a year since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in Korea, which has claimed thousands of lives and changed every aspect of life. The corona pandemic not only caused physical damages but also psychological one which is a collective social stress phenomenon often termed as 'corona blue'. The purpose of this study is to examine how empathy affects anxiety and depression through risk perception and indirect trauma, which are psychological variables related to the corona pandemic as a disaster. The survey data from 214 people were analyzed with a structural equation modelling. The results shows that 53.3 % of the participants experienced anxiety and 35.7% suffered from depression, which were about 6 times higher than ones from the 2019 government data. Affective empathy had a significant effect on risk perception, and cognitive empathy had a significant effect on indirect trauma. Risk perception and indirect trauma both had a significant effect on anxiety, and anxiety had a significant impact on depression. Only cognitive empathy had a significant indirect effect on anxiety and depression. This study provides an important insight into understanding a social phenomenon of 'corona blue' from a empathic perspective.

The purpose of this study is to confirm the direct and indirect influence of the social presence of the Metaverse on intention to use. At this time, in addition to the direct effect of social presence, we attempted to examine the indirect effect on intention to use through perceived value. Perceived value was based on previous research. Perceived Enjoyment and perceived usefulness were used as positive values, and anxiety or worry perceived in the use of the Metaverse was defined as perceived risk and applied together. As a result of conducting a survey targeting college students who are the main users of Metaverse, the social presence of Metaverse had a direct positive effect on intention to use, and the mediating effects of perceived enjoyment and perceived usefulness could be confirmed. However, perceived risk did not have a significant mediating effect. Strategic implications were provided based on the results of this study, which showed that increasing the social presence of the Metaverse can enhance the intention to use it by increasing the value of the platform.
