  • Rett syndrome is a neurological disorder seen almost exclusively in females, and found in a variety of racial and ethnic groups worldwide. First described by Dr. Andreas Rett in 1983. The specific features of the Rett syndrome is apraxia. Most of the Rett syndrome has been diagnosed erroneously to autism, cerebral palsy, and unknown developmental disorders. The etiology of the Rett syndrome is not figured out exactly but it seem to have relation with genetic factors. In this case the patient with Rett syndrome had a chief complaint of the injury of palate due to deep bite. We report this case for the satisfactory result using the bite plane to decrease the injury of the palate due to deep bite.

  • This research was conducted to determine the effects on knowledge about menstruation, coping with menstruation, menstrual symptom of middle school students after they received Health Behavior-based PMS Intervention Education. By using a non-equivalent control group pretest and posttest design, the experiment was conducted with a test group of 31 students and a control group of 33 students. There were statistically significant increases in knowledge about menstruation and coping with menstruation in the experimental group compared to the control group. From these finding, Health Behavior-based PMS Intervention Education for middle school students is effective and the development of such PMS Intervention Education is desirable in terms of health care.

  • This research aimed to verify whether family competency reinforcement had a mediating role on the effect of family cohesion of the Down syndrome family upon the independent life of children with Down syndrome. For the research, 146 families belonged to Down Syndrome Parent Assembly were surveyed and the statistical program SPSS WIN 25.0 was utilized for the data analysis. To verify the mediating effect, Baron and Kenny's causal step strategy was performed. As a result of the study, the higher the family cohesion of the Down syndrome family was, the greater the level of independence of the child was, indicating that the family cohesion had a significant static effect on the independence life. In addition, it was confirmed that the family competency reinforcement played a mediating role between the family cohesion and the children's independent living. Therefore, the results of this research suggested that it might be used as a policy approach and supporting plan for the realization of support for independence of Down syndrome children.

  • This study was performed to compare the effects of health behaviors, dietary habits, and psychological health on metabolic syndrome (MS) between young adults living in one-person households (OPHs) and multiple-person households (MPHs). The data from the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES), which was conducted in 2014 and 2016 were used. The subjects were 2,682, who were 20 to 39 years old. The data were analyzed using complex sample Rao-Scott ${\chi}^2-tests$, t-tests, and multiple logistic regression using SPSS 23.0 software. Sex, age, obesity, and subjective health status were associated with MS in young adults living in either OPHs or MPHs. Breakfast consumption frequency, eating alone, food label use, stress, and depression were associated with MS only in young adults living in OPHs. Thus, these differentiated risk factors of MS should be considered, when health promotion strategies and interventions are planned for young adults living in OPHs. Also, further studies are needed to evaluate the effectiveness of the strategies or interventions.

  • This study aimed to examine the prevalence rate of metabolic syndrome according to milk and dairy products intake and physical activity in Korean adults. After adjusting the age and sex, which are confounding factors that may affect the disease were analyzed by logistic analysis to confirm their association with metabolic syndrome. The subjects included 444 males and 807 females, aged 19 to 64 years, from the data of 'The Korean National Health and Nutrition Survey 2016-2017'. Milk and dairy product intake and physical activity were significantly associated with metabolic syndrome (OR 1.85, 95% CI 1.13 - 3.15), and low HDL-cholesterol (OR 1.52, 95% CI: 1.07 - 2.18). The results of this study show that dairy intake and physical activity tend to prevent metabolic syndrome.

  • The chest wall deformity associated with Poland's syndrome is a very rare anomaly which consists of congenital unilateral absence of the sternal head of the pectoralis major muscle and various abnormalities of the upper extremity. Other clinical features associated with Poland's syndrome include deficiency or absence of the breast and nipple, deficiency of subcutaneous fat and axillary hair, and abnormalities of costal cartilages and anterior ends of ribs. The origin remains uncertain, but is considered not to be hereditary. Poland's syndrome may pose a serious psychologic and cosmetic problem, early recognition and surgical correction may prove beneficial. A 37 year old patient with Poland's syndrome was encountered and underwent satisfactory surgical correction.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the kinematic characteristics of children with Down syndrome got congenitally joint laxity and muscle hypotonic. The subjects are boys with Down syndrome and don't have the other disabilities. We got three dimensional position data and then calculated spatiotemporal and kinematic variables during walking on treadmill used increasingly for gait analysis and training. In result, in order to overcome their gait instability due to their musculoskeletal characteristics they walked with hip, knee and ankle joints more flexed than the typical gait pattern, and on the propulsion phase they extend the lower limb joints less than the typical, result in propel the body less than. The reason is that the more is the propulsion by extending the joints, the greater is the reaction force from the ground on heel contact. This result is expected to be used to develop the training program for intensification of musculoskeletal system aim to improve the other musculoskeletal disabilities as well as Down syndrome.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship among the variables and the influence of premenstrual syndrome and stress response on the learning flow of nursing students. Method : The participants were 162 nursing students in K city, who were surveyed between June 1 and June 10, 2018, using self-report questionnaire. Result: There were positive correlation between premenstrual syndrome of participants and stress response(r=.389, p<.001). There were negative correlation between premenstrual syndrome and learning flow(r=-1.93, p<.014), between stress response and learning flow(r=-.216 p<.001). The variables for learning flow where stress response(${\beta}=-.314$, p<.001) and Psychological change of menstruation(${\beta}=-.358$, p<.001), with a coefficient of determination($R^2$) of 30.3%. The result of this study will be useful in preparing basic date for improvement of the learning flow of the nursing students and it will be necessary to develop educational programs and strategies related with the premenstrual syndrome and stress response disposition.

  • The purpose of this study was investigate the association between birth age related health factors and metabolic syndrome in women. The data of 6743 women from Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey(2012-2014 KNHANES) were analyzed. Dependent variable was metabolic syndrom related variables were collected. Menopause status was associated with metabolic syndrome [odds ratio of with post-menopause 1.44(95% CI: 1.09-1.90)]. First birth age was associated with metabolic syndrome [odds ratio of women with 26-30 year : 0.81 (95% CI: 0.68-0.98); odds ratio of women 31 year over: 0.62(95% CI: 0.45-0.87)] after adjusted for age, region, household income, smoking, occupation. In conclusion, the metabolic syndrome is closely related to menopause and first birth age, and will be used as a basic data in developing future educational programs for women.

  • The purpose of this study was to confirm the relationship between the subjective symptoms of smartphone addiction and visual display terminal syndrome in nursing college students and learning flow in the COVID-19 pandemic. For the collection of materials, the materials of the final 134 people were analyzed by collecting the students at the nursing colleges located in S city and M city for convenience. The collected materials were subjected to descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation coefficients using the SPSS / WIN 26 program. As a result of this study, the learning flow of nursing college students was negative correlated to the tendency of smartphone addiction and the subjective symptoms of visual display terminal syndrome. Therefore, to improve the learning flow of nursing college students, it is necessary to reduce the symptoms of smartphone addictive use and visual display terminal syndrome. The need for intervention and development of various effective programs for smart phone addiction management and display terminal syndrome management was suggested.
