A Study on Burden, Stress and Social Support of Family Caregivers in Intensive Care Unit Patient (중환자 가족원의 부담감, 스트레스 및 사회적 지지)

  • This study was to identify the correlation between the degree of burden, stress and social support of family caregivers in ICU patient. The subjects were 146 family care givers observed at a general hospital at D city. The level of stress that family caregivers experience the average points of 2.18, which is considered less than average. The level of burden that average point of 2.51. Points for level of subjective feeling ranged from 1.74 to 3.90. The average point of 3.03 is higher than that for objectively recognized feeling. The points for social support that average point of 3.03 for social support proves that families feel positive about the social support they are receiving. The level of stress which shows that the lower the income, the higher the stress. The effect on stress shows significance in subjective feelings of burden, social support, and employment, indicating that they have correlations with stress. Both the feeling of burden and social support have an impact upon the stress that patient families experience.

The Effects of Education Using a Relocation Information Guidebook on Relocation Stress, Anxiety, and Education Satisfaction in Family Caregivers of Patients in Neurosurgical Intensive Care Units (전실정보 가이드북을 이용한 교육이 신경외과 중환자실 환자가족의 전실스트레스, 불안 및 교육만족도에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify the effects of education, using a relocation information guidebook, on the family caregivers of patients who were scheduled to be transferred from a neurosurgical intensive care unit to a general ward. Methods: They were divided into two groups: an experimental group (n = 21) and a control group (n = 20). A relocation information guidebook was created based on a literature review and an interview with five family caregivers about how to satisfy their needs. The collected data were analyzed with a ${\chi}^2$ test, Fisher's exact test, paired t-test, and t-test. Results: The effect of education, using the relocation information guidebook, on the family caregivers of patients who were relocated to a general ward from the neurosurgical intensive care unit was not significant for relocation stress (t = 0.94p, = .352) or anxiety (t = 1.25, p = .217), but was significant for education satisfaction (t = -2.50, p = .017). Conclusion: There were no differences in relocation stress and anxiety scores between the control and experimental groups. However, several methodological issues were highlighted that must be considered in future research, including the timing and measurement of transfer anxiety, and the intervention itself.

A Study on the Compliance of Kidney Transplantation Recipients (신장이식환자의 치료지시 이행정도)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify compliance of kidney transplantation(=KT) recipients and the factors influencing on compliance of KT recipients. Methods: One hundred patients who visited out-patients department after KT at S hospital transplant center in Seoul were enrolled in this study. Structured questionnaires of compliance, self-efficacy and family support were used to collect data. The data was collected from April 21 to May 21 in 2011. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, independent t-test, ANOVA and Pearson correlation coefficient. Statistical significance was accepted to the level of p<.05. Results: The mean score of compliance was 4.37(range from 1 to 5), and that of medication compliance was the highest and that of self care compliance was the lowest. There were no differences of compliance according to characteristics of the subjects. Compliance of the subjects had positive correlation with self-efficacy(r=0.23, p<0.05) and family support(r=0.33, p<0.05). Conclusion: Based on these results, it can be concluded that the nursing intervention program to improve self care using self-efficacy and family support need to be developed.
