Analysis of Flood Flow Characteristics of the Han River using 1-Dimensional St. Venant Equations (1차원 St. Venant 방정식을 이용한 한강 하류부 하도의 홍수류 특성 분석)

  • Flood flow characteristics of the Han River (from Goan to Indo Bridge) are analyzed using 1-dimensional St. Venant equations. NETWORK, a finite difference model, is used to calculate each term (local acceleration term, convective acceleration term, pressure force term, gravity force term, and friction force term) of the momentum equation and to analyze the flow characteristics. By the result of the study, as the general characteristics of flow in a channel that acceleration terms are very small and the other three terms are much greater is presented, three terms(pressure force term, gravity force term, friction force term) are to be main terms which decide the characteristics of flow. Specially in this region the acceleration term is noted so large that it cannot be ignored according to the shape of hydrograph and the region.

Numerical Analysis for Impurity Effects on Diffusive-convection Flow Fields by Physical Vapor Transport under Terrestrial and Microgravity Conditions: Applications to Mercurous Chloride (지상 및 미소중력 환경에서 물리적 승화법 공정에 미치는 불순물의 영향 분석: 염화제일수은에 대한 응용성)

  • In this study, impurity effects on diffusive-convection flow fields by physical vapor transport under terrestrial and microgravity conditions were numerically analyzed for the mixture of $Hg_2Cl_2-I_2$ system. The numerical analysis provides the essence of diffusive-convection flow as well as heat and mass transfer in the vapor phase during the physical vapor transport through velocity vector flow fields, streamlines, temperature, and concentration profiles. The total molar fluxes at the crystal regions were found to be much more sensitive to both the gravitational acceleration and the partial pressure of component $I_2$ as an impurity. Our results showed that the solutal effect tended to stabilize the diffusive-convection flow with increasing the partial pressure of component $I_2$. Under microgravity conditions below $10^{-3}g_0$, the flow fields showed a one-dimensional parabolic flow structure indicating a diffusion-dominant mode. In other words, at the gravitational levels less than $10^{-3}g_0$, the effects of convection would be negligible.

  • 극 지역용 중력식 해양구조물의 설계시 고려되어야 할 문제중의 하나가 구조물의 유빙(ice)과 충돌시 야기되는 foundation붕괴 현상인데, 본 논문에서는 정적 해석을 위해 sliding 및 bearing failure 현상에 대하여만 연구하였고, 또한 동적 해석을 위하여 soil과ice의 특성으로부터 structure-ice-soil의 상호 작용 운동 방정식을 설정하여 구조물과 ice의변위, 속도, 가속도와 ice force와 soil force의 history를 시간영역 해법으로 풀었다. 한 예제로 Beaufort Sea의 37 feet수심과 granular soil 상태에서 구조물의 최대변위는 0.4 feet이고 가속도는 약 0.3kg이며 이때 구조물이 sliding에 대하여 안전하다는 것이 입증되었다.

  • Attitude determination algorithms for aircraft and land vehicles use earth gravitational vector and geomagnetic vector; hence, magnetometers and accelerometers are employed. In dynamic situation, the output from accelerometers includes not only gravitational vector but also motional acceleration, thus it is hard to determine accurate attitude. The acceleration compensation method treated in this paper solves the problem to compensate the specific force vector for motional acceleration calculated by a GPS receiver. This paper analyzed the error from the corrected vector regarded as a constant by conventional acceleration compensation method, and improve the error by rederivation from measurements. The analyzed error factors and improvements by the proposed algorithm are verified by computer simulations.

중력파: 우주를 보는 새로운 창

  • 중력파의 존재가 예측된 것은 100년전 일이지만 지난해 9월 14일에야 LIGO에 처음으로 직접 검출되었다. 줄력파는 질량을 가진 물질이 가속될 때 만들어져 빛의 속도로 전파되는 현상이다. LIGO는 레이저 간섭 현상을 이용해 서로 수직인 방향의 두 팔의 길이가 상대적으로 진동하는 것을 측정하는 기기로서 지난 2002년 첫 관측을 시작한 이래 지속적인 감도 향상을 통해 아주 미세한 진폭을 가지는 중력파를 직접 검출하는데 성공하였다. 이번에 관측된 중력파는 두개의 블랙홀로 이루어진 쌍성이 궤도 운동을 하면서 중력파를 방출함에 따라 궤도 반지름이 점차 줄어들어 궁극적으로 충돌하기 직전 0.1초 정도 사이에 방출한 것으로서 이론적인 파형과의 비교를 통해 기존의 어떤 방법보다도 정확하게 블랙홀들의 질량과 거리를 측정할 수 있게 해 주었다. LIGO의 감도가 앞으로도 더욱 향상될 것이며 이에 따라 더 많은 중력파 천체가 발견될 것이다. 중력파 관측을 통해 우리는 기존의 망원경으로 볼 수 없었던 새로운 천체 현상을 자구 관측하게 될 것이며 이에 따라 블랙홀이나 중성자별과 같은 밀집 천체를 더 자세하게 탐구할 수 있을 뿐 아니라 우주의 구조나 진화에 대한 새로운 연구가 가능해질 것이다.

The Absolute Gravity Measurements in Korean Peninsula (한반도지역에서의 절대 중력관측)

  • For the establishing gravity base station and the improving the precision of exiting gravity network, and getting the gravity acceleration value in Korea, the absolute gravity measurements have been conducted at Daejeon(KRISS) from October 8 to November 8, 1996 with the NIM-II Absolute gravimeter and Suwon(NGI) from December 10 to December 16, 1999 with the FG5 Absolute gravity meter. The each absolute gravity value measured at KRISS and at NGI is 979,829.609${\pm}$0.006 mGal from 353 dropes and 979,918.775${\pm}$0.0001 mGal from a total 14,346 dropes. I think that we need the many base Absolute gravity station for the activation of the Earth science.

A Study on Meal Time Estimation and Eating Behavior Recognition Considering Movement Using Wrist-Worn Accelerometer with Its Frequency (손목 움직임과 동작 빈도를 고려한 손목형 가속도계의 식사 행위 및 식사 시간 추론 기법)

  • In this paper, we propose a method for recognizing eating behavior with almost no motion acceleration. First, by using the acceleration of gravity acting on the wrist direction, we calculate the angle between the gravity and the wrist direction. After that, detect wrist reciprocating motion when peak and vally exist in specific angle band. And then, when accumulate the number of wrist reciprocating motion occurrences are up to 10, then regard as the meal time 5 minutes before the detection time. Also, estimate the meal time only if its duration is more than 7 minutes. Using the data of 2128 minutes, which was collected from four graduate student, the result of the meal time estimation shows 95.63% accuracy.

  • An free-fall object is received only force of gravity. Movement that only accept gravity is free-fall movement, and a free-falling object is free falling body. In other words, free falling body is only freely falling objects under the influence of gravity, regardless of the initial state of objects movement. In this paper, we assume, ignoring the resistance of the air, and the free-fall acceleration by the height does not change within the range of the short distance in the vertical direction. Under these assumptions, we can know about time and maximum height to reach the peak point from jumping vertically upward direction, time and speed of the car return to the starting position, and time and speed when the car fall to the ground. It can be measured by jumping degree and risk of accident from car or motorcycle in telematics.

  • Understanding the liquid propellant transport phenomena in low gravity is essential for developing Korea Space Launch Vehicle (KSLV) upper-stage for the diversity of space missions. A low-gravity environment can be simulated via the free-fall method on the ground; however, the air drag is inevitable. To reduce air resistance during free fall, air-drag shield is usually adopted. In this study, the free-fall method was performed with an air-drag shield from a 7-m height tower. The acceleration of a falling object was measured and analyzed. Low gravity below 0.01 g was achieved during 1.2-s free fall with the air-drag shield. The minimum gravitational acceleration value at 1.2-s after free fall was ±0.005 g, which is comparable to the value obtained from Bremen drop tower experiments, ±0.002 g. A prolonged free-fall duration may enhance the low-gravity quality during the drop tower experiments.
