Wave Load on Fixed Offshore Gravity Platform (중력식(重力式) 고정해양구물(固定海洋構物)에 작용(作用)하는 파랑하중(波浪荷重)에 관한 연구(硏究))

  • In the arctic offshore regions, massive offshore gravity platforms are recommended to be construced because of severe environments. In such structures which is so large that its characteristic length is of the order of the wave length, wave-structure interaction problem has been solved using linear diffraction theory. Structural analysis of the large scale offshore structures requires wave force distribution along depth and wave pressure distribution on the body surface. In this study, existing computer program which calculates the total wave force acting on axisymmetric bodies has been modified to calculate wave force distribution along depth and wave pressure distribution on the body surface. Numerical results of pressure distribution for a fixed vertical cylinder obtained from this analysis has been compared with the results of an analytic solution of MacCamy-Fuchs, and good agreements has been obtained. It is desirable to use 6 in the case of analytic solution, and 5 in the case of numerical solution as the Fourier Mode of Green function. The results in this study are expected to be utilized for structural analysis such as pseudo-static analysis, dynamic analysis and fatigue analysis.

A Study of Global Ocean Data Assimilation using VAF (VAF 변분법을 이용한 전구 해양자료 동화 연구)

  • ARCO and TAO data which supply three dimensional global ocean information are assimilated to the background field from a general circulation model, MOM3. Using a variational Analysis using Filter (VAF), which is a spatial variational filter designed to reduce computational time and space efficiently and economically, observed ARGO and TAO data are assimilated to the OGCM-generated background sea temperature for the generation of initial condition of the model. For the assessment of the assimilation impact, a comparative experiment has been done by integrating the model from different intial conditions: one from ARGO-, TAO-data assimilated initial condition and the other from background state without assimilation. The assimilated analysis field not only depicts major oceanic features more realistically but also reduces several systematic model bias that appear in every current OGCMs experiments. From the 10-month of model integrations with and without assimilated initial conditions, it is found that the major assimilated characteristics in sea temperature appeared in the initial field remain persistently throughout the integration. Such implies that the assimilated characteristics of the reduced sea temperature bias is to last in the integration without rapid restoration to the non-assimilated OGCM integration state by dispersing mass field in the form of internal gravity waves. From our analysis, it is concluded that the data assimilation method adapted in this study to MOM3 is reasonable and applicable with dynamical consistency. The success in generating initial condition with ARGO and TAO data assimilation has significant implication upon the prediction of the long-term climate and weather using ocean-atmosphere coupled model.

A Comparative Analysis of Keywords in Astronomical Journals and Concepts in Secondary School Astronomy Curriculum (최근 천문학 연구 키워드와 천체 분야 교육과정 내용 요소 비교 분석)

  • In recent years, astronomy has been snowballing: including Higgs particle discovery, black hole imaging, extraterrestrial exploration, and deep space observation. Students are also largely interested in astronomy. The purpose of this study is to discover what needs to be improved in the current astronomy curriculum in light of recent scientists' researches and discoveries. We collected keywords from all papers published from 2011 to 2020 in four selected journals-ApJ, ApJL, A&A, and MNRAS- by R package to examine research trends. The curriculum contents were extracted by synthesizing the in-service teachers' coding results in the 2015 revised curriculum document of six subjects (Science, Integrated Science, Earth Science I, Earth Science II, Physics II, Convergence Science). The research results are as follows: first, keywords that appear steadily in astronomy are 'galaxies: formation, galaxy: active, star: formation, accretion, method: numerical.' Second, astronomy curriculum includes all areas except the 'High Energy Astrophysical Phenomena' area within the common science curriculum learned by all students. Third, it is necessary to review the placement of content elements by subject and grade and to consider introducing new concepts based on astronomy research keywords. This is an exploratory study to compare curriculum and the field of scientific research that forms the basis of the subject. We expect to provide implications for a future revision of the astronomy curriculum as a primary ground investigation.

Effective method of sediment survey in reservoir (저수지 퇴적물의 효율적인 조사)

  • 대부분의 국내 다목적 댐은 유역면적이 넓고 강우기 집중강우로 인하여 유입되는 입자성 물질이 상당히 많은 편이며, 영양염의 증가로 인하여 저수지내부에서 발생되는 입자성 물질도 많다. 이로 인하여 호소에는 외부에서 유입된 무기$\cdot$유기성 입자와 내부 생성된 유기성 물질들이 장기간 축적되어 저수지 용량이 줄어든다. 본 연구에서는 저수지 퇴적물 상태를 탐사하는 효율적인 조사기법을 제시하고자 한다. 퇴적물 탐사기법에는 탄성파탐사 등을 이용하는 간접적인 방법과 코아를 이용하는 직접적인 방법, 퇴적층 동위원소 분석 기법 등이 있으며, 이러한 기법에 대한 기본원리 및 특성, 효용성 등을 평가하고 현장에 적합한 방법을 실제 적용하였다. 퇴적물 분포를 조사하기 위하여 먼저 다중빔(MBES)을 이용한 정밀 지형조사를 실시하였으며 이를 통하여 호저지형의 특징을 간접적으로 평가할 수 있었다. 직접적인 조사방법으로 gravity corer를 사용하여 몇 개의 지점을 sampling하였으며, 잠수부가 직접 핸드코아링를 실시하여 퇴적층을 측정하였다. 16지점에서 실시한Gravity core 결과 세 곳의 조사 정점에서 최대 70cm 두께의 퇴적층이 중력식 시추기에 의해 획득되었으며 다른 정점에서는 50cm, 20cm가 시추되었고 그 나머지 지점에서는 퇴적물이 채취되지 않았다. 이는 퇴적층이 얇아 코아가 쓰러지거나 시료채취가 되지 않은 것으로 판단되었다. 잠수부가 hand corer를 이용한 시료 채취시에 채취된 시료의 퇴적층은 각 지점별로 덕치리 25cm, 경계지점 25cm, 우산리 지점 45cm로 조사되었다. 납-210(반감기 22.3년)을 이용하여 최근에 형성된 주암댐 호수저 퇴적물 중 퇴적작용 이후 교란을 받지 않은 지역의 시추 시료를 대상으로 퇴적속도를 구하였다. 주암호에서 취한 코아퇴적물 시료는 현장에서 냉동하여 실험실에서 약 2cm 간격으로 절단하여 절단체 별로 동위원소 분석을 실시하였다. $^{210}Pb$의 농도는 grand-daughter인 $^{210}Po$를 측정함 후 감마분석에 의하여 구하였다. CF:CS 연령모델을 적용한 결과 깊이에 따른 supported $^{210}Pb$와 퇴적 속도는 0.91cm/year 인 것으로 산정 되었다.

Modeling of Multi-Boom Floating Crane for Lifting Analysis of Offshore Wind Turbine (해상 풍력 발전기 리프팅 해석을 위한 해상 크레인 멀티 붐 모델링)

  • The dynamic responses of a 5 MW wind turbine lifted by a floating crane with two elastic booms are analyzed. Dynamic equations of motions of a multibody system that consists of a floating crane, two elastic booms, and a wind turbine are derived. The six-degree-of-freedom (DOF) motions for the floating crane and the wind turbine are considered in the equations of motions. The hydrostatic force, the hydrodynamic force due to a regular wave, the mooring force, the wire rope force, and the gravitational force are considered as external forces. By solving the equations numerically, the dynamic responses of cargo are simulated. The simulation results are compared with those in the case of one elastic boom. Finally, the dynamic responses of the wind turbine lifted by the floating crane are analyzed under regular wave condition.

Nearshore Sediment Transport in Vicinity of Anmok Harbor, East Coast of Korea. (동해 안목항 주변 연안 토사이동)

  • The breakwater extension at Anmok Harbor has resulted in erosional stresses along the wide range of shorelines immediately south of the harbor. In this study, therefore, the downdrift affects caused by the breakwater extension are investigated through both analytical and numerical approaches. In addition, this study stresses the need of monitoring and analysis system for the effective integrated coastal zone management and shows through the case study of Anmok Harbor how the numerical experiments are accomplished for the coastal zone management. The numerical model system, which predicts the seabed changes obtained from the difference between the rates of sediment pickup and settling due to gravity, is combined with the wave, wave-induced currents, and suspended sediment transport models. A new relationship between the near-bed concentration and the depth-mean concentration, which is required in estimating the settling rates. is presented by analyzing the vertical structure of concentration.

  • Real-time kinematic (RTK) GPS surveying which allows centimeter level accuracy of three-dimensional coordinates without post-processing has become recognized as a major advance in GPS technology. Employing On-The-Fly initialization technique, the RTK system can escape from cycle slip problems that have affected as a main obstacle factor in traditional kinematic and static approaches. The objective of this research was to evaluate accuracy and effectiveness of the RTK-GPS surveying. First, the continuous RTK observation of a base line was conducted for the purpose of finding out the repeatability of the RTK surveying and the results which were then compared against results from static surveying showed RMS errors of $\pm{3mm}\;and\;\pm{13mm}$ for their respective horizontal and vertical components. On a test network of 30 stations covering the small area, the results of RTK testing were compared against those from not only post-processing kinematic and rapid-static surveyings but conventional surveyings and also the efficiency of RTK were analyzed. In addition, geoid heights which were derived by combination of GPS and spirit leveling about all of the points within the network were compared against those derived by the PNU95 and EGM96 models respectively.

Late Quaternary Sedimentary Processes in the Northern Continental Margin of the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica (남극 남쉐틀랜드 군도 북부 대륙주변부의 후기 제 4기 퇴적작용)

  • Sedimentary facies and high-resolution echo facies were analyzed to elucidate sedimentation pattern of the late Quaternary glacial-marine deposits in the northern continental margin of the South Shetland Islands. Six sedimentary facies are classified, based on grain texture and sedimentary structures in gravity cores. The high-resolution (3.5 ㎑) echo characters are classified into 6 echo facies on the basis of clarity, continuity, and shape of bottom and subbottom echoes together with seafloor topography. Distribution of the echo and sedimentary facies suggest that there was a significant change in sedimentation pattern between the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM) and subsequent glacier-retreating period. When the grounded glaciers extended to the present shelfbreak during LGM, coarse-grained subglacial tills were widespread in the shelf area, and deep troughs in the shelf were carved beneath the fast-flowing ice steam. As the glacial margin retreated landward after LGM, dense meltwater plumes released from the retreating ice-front were funneled along the glacier-carved troughs, and accumulated channel- or cannyon-fill deposits in the shelf and the upper to mid slope. At that time, slope sediments seem to have been reworked by slope failures and unsteady contour currents, and further transported by fine-grained turbidity currents along the South Shetland Trench. After the glacial retreat, sediments in the shelf and slope areas have been mainly introduced by persistent (hemi) pelagic settling, and fine-grained turbidity currents frequently occur along the axis of the South Shetland Trench.

Regular Waves-induced Seabed Dynamic Responses around Submerged Breakwater (규칙파동장하 잠제 주변지반의 동적거동에 관한 수치해석)

  • In case of the seabed around and under gravity structures such as submerged breakwater is exposed to a large wave action long period, the excess pore pressure will be generated significantly due to pore volume change associated with rearrangement soil grains. This effect will lead a seabed liquefaction around and under structures as a result from decrease in the effective stress. Under the seabed liquefaction occurred and developed, the possibility of structure failure will be increased eventually. In this study, to evaluate the liquefaction potential on the seabed quantitatively, numerical analysis was conducted using the expanded 2-dimensional numerical wave tank model and the finite element elasto-plastic model. Under the condition of the regular wave field, the time and spatial series of the deformation of submerged breakwater, the pore water pressure (oscillatory and residual components) and pore water pressure ratio in the seabed were estimated.

New Development of Hybrid Concrete Support Structure with Driven Piles for Offshore Wind Turbines (하이브리드 해상풍력 파일 기초 콘크리트 지지구조(MCF) 개발)

  • This paper proposes a new hybrid support structure by the driven piles which removes disadvantages of the existing type of support structure for offshore wind turbines. The hybrid type of support structure is combined with concrete cone and steel shaft, and is supported not only by gravity type foundations but also by driven piles. For three dimensional analysis of the huge and thick concrete structure, a solid-shell element that is capable of exact modeling and node interpolations of stresses is developed. By applying wave theory of stream function and solid-shell element in XSEA simulation software for fixed offshore wind turbines, a quasi-static analysis and natural frequency analysis of proposed support structure are performed with the environmental condition on Southwest Coast in Korea. In the result, lateral displacement is not exceed allowable displacement and a superiority of dynamic behavior of new hybrid support structure is validated by natural frequency analysis. Consequently, the hybrid support structure presented in this study has a structural stability enough to be applied on real-site condition in Korea. The optimized structures based on the preliminary design concept resulted in an efficient structure, which reasonably reduces fabrication costs.
