  • The purpose of this study was to examine the extent to which the contents of elementary and secondary curricula are connected and overlapped in the 'family life' area of Practical Arts(Technology & Home Economics) subjects. The procedure and results are as were like below. First, the types of criteria for analyzing curriculum contents are developed. The connectivity are classified as 'discontinuous hierarchy' and 'spiral hierarchy' and duplication are classified as 'repetition (high level of overlapping)', 'reproducing', 'deepening (intermediate level of overlapping)', 'substitution', and 'omission (low level of overlapping)'. Second, as a result of analyzing the contents of elementary and secondary curricula, the 'Human Development' area showed higher connectivity with a deepening type of duplication. The 'Safety' and the 'Lifelong Planning' concepts showed lower connectivity. Third, as a result of analyzing the achievement standards of the 2015 Curriculum, the secondary Home Economics curriculum showed a considerable increase in the level of difficulty and the volume compared to the elementary curriculum. There was low connectivity between the contents of elementary and secondary curricula in the core concepts 'Safety' and 'Lifelong Planning', an intermediate level of connectivity in 'Life Culture' and 'Management', and high connectivity in 'Development' and 'Relationship'. Also, there was a high level of duplication in the core concepts 'Safety' and 'Lifelong Planning', being classified as 'reproducing', 'substitution', and 'omission', analyzed to have low connectivity. When structuring the curriculum contents with a spiral hierarchy, one should connect the elementary and secondary school contents organically: the hierarchy with core concepts considering the different characters of constructuring knowledge in each school level, with a moderate volume, with a moderate difficulty level, with a moderate level of duplication of the contents, and with the minimum level of repetition of the same topics within the same school level.

  • This study analyzed the contents of the milk-related nutrition education currently found in elementary and secondary school textbooks. An attempt was made to develop the basic data needed to in the future provide students with pertinent in formation regarding the nutritional attributes of milk, as well as the desired consumption behavior, within the school education system. To attain the objectives of this study, the researcher analyzed the contents of the milk-related nutrition education described in elementary and secondary school textbooks(1st-10th grades). Based on the results of this analysis, measures were developed to organize the contents of the milk-related nutrition education that should be taught within the school education system. At the elementary school level, milk-related nutrition education was included in the textbooks for the integrated curriculum for the lower grades, as well as in the science, practical arts, and physical education textbooks for every grade, except the End and the 6th. The practical arts textbook, which contained basic knowledge related to the nutritional attributes of milk and the proper method in which to intake milk, was found to be the one which dealt with milk-related nutrition education in the most detail. At the secondary school level. milk-related nutrition education was included in the 7th-10th grade textbooks for the science, technology and home economics, and physical education courses. In this instance. the technology and home economics textbooks were the ones which were found to contain the most milk-related nutrition education covering such aspects as the nutritional attributes of milk, the special characteristics of milk as a food. how to select and store milk. as well as how to use milk as part of a balanced diet in everyday life. However, as was the case at the elementary school levet the repetitious nature of the milk-related contents found in the textbooks for various school subjects and at different school levels, as well as the inefficient hierarchical structure in which the knowledge is presented, were identified as key problems. There is a need to establish the appropriate milk-related nutrition education for each school level. The need to develop education programs, which could be linked to the school subjects and special milk programs, was also emphasized.

  • This study analyzed the items for the Home Economics teacher selection test, which were carried out through the school year 2002 to 2010, based on Pedagogical Content Knowledge in Home Economics Education (H-PCK). Two frameworks were used: (1) H-PCK matrix transformed from the Content Knowledge in Home Economics Education (H-CK) and the Pedagogical Knowledge; (2) Five components of H-PCK. The results of this study were as follows: (1) The test items were classified into H-CK items and H-PCK items from the H-PCK matrix analysis. (2) While the number of items on knowledge of teaching strategies was the highest, no item on knowledge of understanding students was identified. Since the test can be considered as Measurement-Driven Instruction, it will have backward influences on the teacher education program in universities. Thus, if promising and capable new Home Economics teachers are to be recruited, the test items should include all the components of H-PCK.

  • The aim of this research is to analyze the items of the Secondary School Teacher's Placement Test(SSTPT) which was submitted for 8 years from 2009 to 2016 according to' detailed criteria of SSTPT'. The results of this study are summarized as follows. First, according to the analysis of items which were covered for the last 8 years, it was found that there was little difference between the evaluation area, the evaluation content elements, and the questionnaires since the questions presented in the 12 items of 12 evaluation areas and 42 of 43 evaluation contents. Second, each of the items in the 8-year questionnaire are as follows. Home economics and education 93 times (32.7%), dietary life 43 times (15.2%), family life 41 times (14.4%), clothing 41 times (14.4%), housing life 34 times (12.0%), consumer life 31 times (11.3%). This shows that there is not a large difference between the basic curriculum subjects of the content education and the ratio of question items. Third, the content elements of evaluation categorized by frequency of questionnaires for 8 years are as follows. Home economics and education mainly covers 'the methodology of teaching and learning,' Family life, 'human development,' Consumer life, 'the understanding of household economics and financial management' and 'consumer decision making,' Dietary life, 'cooking principle and practice' and 'management of dietary life,' Clothing life, 'clothing and household goods production,' Housing life, 'the understanding if residential living.' The elements of green life education were included in all parts of the Home Economics Curricula of both countries except the 'Characteristics and Objectives' part of Japanese Curriculum. In both the Korean and Japanese Curricula, the element of green life was the most frequently and concretely reflected in the 'Contents' part, contrary to the 'Characteristics and Objectives' part where the element was the most rarely and abstractly reflected.
