  • Although the riding comfort of tilting trains has been managed by setting allowable limits of roll motion in Korea, it is impossible for this approach to express the psychophysical relationship between various vibrational factors and riding comfort. in order to propose a function to evaluate the riding comfort of tilting train on transition curves, an experiment was performed with the Korea Tilting Tran eXpress(TTX). As a result, by referring to some international standards on the method of evaluating ride comfort, a modified method was proposed to evaluate the lateral vibration in addition to the roll motion on carve transitions.

  • It is of utmost important that track loads at rail induced by running train was usually obtained for track performance evaluation. A reaction force of track was measured wheel loads and lateral force by strain gauges on the rail, and then it was obtained to derailment coefficient and variational ratio of wheel load from its relationship. In this study, a existing monitoring system methods with many manpower working were reviewed about measurements, process of testing, and how to obtain accurately measured data.

  • Maglev vehicle has two kinds of suspension system such as a secondary suspension with air-spring and a primary suspension as electromagnetic suspension which composed of electromagnet, magnet driver, controller and sensors. The interaction between each dynamic component of vehicle and track effects the stability and running performance. To achieve the specified performance of vehicle, many various approaches of research were tried, then as the result of these efforts, the first commercial operating with Maglev will start soon. The bogie for revenue service from 2012 has some significant modifications compared to the previous one, and to verify the changes the half prototype vehicle was manufactured and took the running performance test. In this report, we will introduce the stage of manufacturing and report results of dynamic performance tests to verify new concept of bogie mechanism.

  • Test Results and Status of development of the urban transit maglev system (UTM-0l) are reported. Maglev Project Team in KIMM, in cooperation with Hyundai Precision Company and the Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute (KERI). has successfully finished the second stage development project (1995.5-1998.8) and demonstrated a prototype two vehicle consisted urban maglev train operating in the speed range of 50 km/h. In this paper, we report various test results of the UTM-01 system. present status of quo and future prospect, and what have been done so far to improve the performance of the maglev system overall.

  • This study presents the minimum spring stiffness of resilient track pad considering the safety of running train. A nonlinear static 3-D finite element is used for the modeling of railway superstructure, especially for the reflection of nonlinear resistance of rail fastening system. Moreover, ballast is considered as an elastic foundation. As the input load, eccentric wheel and lateral force are used and they are derived from ' Lateral-force/Wheel-load Estimation Equations '. Analysis results are compared with following two values : allowable lateral displacement of rail head (derived from the geometrical derailment evaluation of wheel/rail) and operation standard value (derived from the field test results of track).

  • A study on the effects of a high-speed railway bridge vibration induced by moving train on the nearby bridge is performed. Longitudinal and lateral accelerations of slabs and piers which are calculated from moving load analysis of a high-speed railway bridge can be used as input ground motions for the adjacent bridge. Dynamic responses of the adjacent bridge considering soil-structure interaction effects are analyzed by sub-structure method. Analysis procedure is made of free field analysis, calculation of impedance and effective input load and soil-structure system analysis.

  • The development of the European railway high speed network brings new problems related to the interoperability across the railways of different countries. The pantograph and the overhead wire form a dynamic coupled system and they affect each other through the contact force. Unfortunately, as the operational speed of a train increases, the vibration of the pantograph and the overhead wire also increases. This may lead to a zero contact force between the pantograph head and the overhead wire, which can results in the loss of contact, arching and abrasion. If the arching and spark happen between the pantograph and the overhead catenary system, the EMI(electro magnetic interface) and noises may occur. After an, the quality of current collection is deteriorated. This paper describes the dynamic response between the pantograph and catenary system by the numerical simulations and predicts the possibility of operating the high speed train in the conventional lines.

  • Many changes in the railway environment has directly affected to the railway company. To cope immediately with the influence of environment and to promote productivity, the railway company has to introduce an efficient train operation system and related core technologies. The railway system is composed or large-scale infrastructures ann high-cost trains. Simulation method is one or core technologies and also is efficient tool for planning and analyzing this kind of complex system. The purpose of this research is to develop multi-train traffic simulator considering high-speed train for GyongBu-Line. To achieve this objective, the elements of railway system was analyzed, and as a result, a data structure modeling for the railway system such as rail-Tine infrastructure, rain, timetable and operational route is presented. The developed simulator is composed of three major part : input-module, main-module, and output module. The concept and brief explanation of each module will be treated.

  • In this paper deals with running test for the UTM(Urban Transit Maglev)-01, that is test and evaluation for the maglev. We will predict about the test value for running maglev vhicle. In this time we tested rms gap fluctuation and peak to peak air gap for levitation system of UTM-01. And then we profit for the upgrade Maglev System.

  • A multi-train operation simulation software is under development, in this G7 Project for a High Speed Train System, to simulate the running performance, power consumption, signalling and operation. In the first stage, a Train Performance Simulation (TPS) software is introduced in this paper. This is a core module of whole system and gives some parameters of a train, e.g., its position, speed traction and braking power and electric power system state, etc. In this paper, calculation technique was used for voltage drop at the train's positions and major posts along the catenary line. The final program will be used as an evaluation tool for system performance in constructing a new line or introducing a new train system.
