  • This paper deals with the method of using the three dimensional characteristic information to classify the front environment in travelling by using the images captured by a CCD camera equipped on a mobile robot. The images detected by the three dimensional characteristic information is divided into the part of obstacles, the part of corners, and th part of doorways in a corridor. In designing the travelling path of a mobile robot, these three situations are used as an important information in the obstacle avoidance and optimal path computing. So, this paper proposes the method of deciding the travelling direction of a mobile robot with using input images based upon the suggested algorithm by preprocessing, and verified the validity of the image information which are detected as obstacles by the analysis through neural network.

  • Intentional aggressive driving (IAD) is defined as a hazardous driving event that the aggressive driver intentionally threatens neighbor drivers with abrupt longitudinal and lateral maneuvering. This study developed a methodology for detecting IAD events based on the analysis of interactions between aggressive driver and normal driver. Three major aggressive events including rear-close following, side-close driving, and sudden deceleration were analyzed to develop the algorithm. Then, driving simulation experiments were conducted using a multi-agent driving simulator to obtain data to be used for the development of the detection algorithm. In order to detect the driver's intention to attack, a relative evaluation index (Erratic Driving Index, EDI) reflecting the driving pattern was derived. The derived IAD event detection algorithm utilizes both the existing absolute detection method and the relative detection method. It is expected that the proposed methodology can be effectively used for detecting IAD events in support of in-vehicle data recorder technology in practice.

  • This paper analyzes the performance limit of WAVE system for the platooning service requirements which is referred from the de facto standards. The performance of the packet error rate and mean delay as key parameters in the wireless communication systems should be satisfied to provide safety to the platooning vehicles. The test scenarios are conducted by considering the following vehicle groups: platooning vehicles, vehicles within a hop distance and vehicles within two hop distance( called hidden node vehicles). The models of packet error rate and delay deals with the topology of aforementioned vehicle groups, vehicle speed and communication range. The numerical results are obtained in terms of packet size, packet arrival rate and data transmission rate. Finally, this paper suggests the robust range of packet error rate and delay for the WAVE system to provide the platooning vehicle service.

  • This paper defines the mobility and rotatability, and a desired mobility and rotatability that can be achieved by adjusting the distance between two wheels of a mobile robot dynamically. The radii of wheels are assumed to be constant in this paper. If a mobile robot has a fixed axis connecting the two wheels, it may not be able to avoid a sudden obstacle because of the constraint of mobility and rotatability. The focus of this paper is on the instant rotatability with high and stable mobility. That is, by dynamically changing the distance between the two wheels, the mobile robot could get the high rotatability instantly and high mobility with high stability. Supposed that the mobility and rotatability that are defined in this paper are supplied to the design of a mobile robot, it will suggest a theoretical basis on the optimal design of the mobile robot with a given route condition and its states. The experimental data support the validity of the aforementioned mobility and rotatability.

  • The range data acquired by 2D/3D LIDAR, a core sensor for autonomous navigation of an unmanned ground vehicle, is effectively used for ground modeling and obstacle detection. Within the ambiguous boundary of a road environment, however, LIDAR does not provide enough information to analyze the traversable region. This paper presents a new method to analyze a candidate area using the characteristics of LIDAR reflectivity for better detection of a traversable region. We detected a candidate traversable area through the front zone of the vehicle using the learning process of LIDAR reflectivity, after calibration of the reflectivity of each channel. We validated the proposed method of a candidate traversable region detection by performing experiments in the real operating environment of the unmanned ground vehicle.

  • Because there is no suspension and differential devices at cart body, the deformation of the frame happened during kart driving affects the driving performance caused by the elastic deformation and the fatigue life of kart frame resulted from the permanent deformation. The dynamic behavior of kart caused by the torsional deformation during circular driving is the important factor of these two kinds of deformations. In order to analyze the dynamic behavior of kart at this curved section, GPS is used to trace the track of kart and the torsional stress at kart-frame has been measured with real time. The mechanical properties of kart-frames for leisure and racing are investigated through material property analysis and tensile test. Torsional stress concentration and frame distortion are investigated through stress analysis on frame on the basis of study result. The real karts for leisure and racing kart are also tested in each driving condition by using the driving analysis equipment. The driving behavior of kart at the curved section are investigated through this test. As the phenomenon of load movement due to centrifugal force at car is happened during circular driving, the torsional stress occurs at cart steel frame.

  • This paper introduces the spring-mounted odometer system which maintains the correct contact with the pipe wall and measures the distance along the pipe. The odometer wheel is designed to keep contact to the pipelines inner wall and to generate fifty rectangular pulses per one turn(159.5681mm) during pigging. The pipeline has the defects in various types such as buckles, winkles, cracks, dents, welding point and so on. Specially girth welding points which exist each 12m of the pipeline, much affects the operational environment of the odometer. The measurement error of the distance along the pipe is accumulated, for the measurement error of wheel's circumference and the pipeline inner environment. So, this paper proposes the method for the error compensation based on the analysis of the odometer's behavior around the girth welding point of pipe. The experimental results show that developed odometer system can be used for the intelligent pig with good performances.

  • In this paper, we proposed an autonomous vehicle platform that delivers goods to a designated destination based on the SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) map generated indoors by applying the Visual SLAM technology. To generate a SLAM map indoors, a depth camera for SLAM map generation was installed on the top of a small autonomous vehicle platform, and a tracking camera was installed for accurate location estimation in the SLAM map. In addition, a convolutional neural network (CNN) was used to recognize the label of the destination, and the driving algorithm was applied to accurately arrive at the destination. A prototype of an indoor delivery autonomous vehicle was manufactured, and the accuracy of the SLAM map was verified and a destination label recognition experiment was performed through CNN. As a result, the suitability of the autonomous driving vehicle implemented by increasing the label recognition success rate for indoor delivery purposes was verified.

  • This paper presents new algorithms of path planning and obstacle avoidance for an autonomous mobile robot to navigate under unknown environments in the real time. Temporary targets are set up by distance variation method and then the algorithms of trajectory planning and obstacle avoidance are designed using fuzzy rules. It is shown by computer simulation that these algorithms are working well. Furthermore, an autonomous mobile robot was constructed to implement and test these algorithms in the real field. The experimental results are also satisfactory just like those of computer simulation.

We have used a virtual bicycle system that combines virtual reality technology with a bicycle . In this experiment, 20 normal adults were tested to investigate the influencing factors on Postural balance. Several factors including cycling time. cycling velocity. number of times of Path deviation, center of Pressure(COP) . and weight shift were extracted and evaluated to quantify the extent of control. Also, To improve the effect of balance training, we investigated the usefulness of visual feedback information by weight shift The results showed that the system was effective Postural balance rehabilitation training device and. in addition. the analysis method might have a wider applicability to the rehabilitation field.
