Generation of Korean Intonation using Vector Quantization (벡터 양자화를 이용한 한국어 억양 곡선 생성)

  • 본 논문에서는 text-to-speech 시스템에서 사용할 억양 모델을 위해 벡터 양자화(vector quantization) 방식을 이용한다. 어절 경계강도(break index)는 세단계로 분류하였고, CART(Classification And Regression Tree)를 사용하여 어절 경계강도의 예측 규칙을 생성하였다. 예측된 어절 경계강도를 바탕으로 운율구를 예측하였으며 운율구는 다섯 개의 억양 패턴으로 분류하였다. 하나의 운율구는 정점(peak)의 시간축, 주파수축 값과 이를 기준으로 한 앞, 뒤 기울기를 추출하여 네 개의 파라미터로 단순화하였다. 운율구에 대해서 먼저 운율구가 문장의 끝일 경우와 아닐 경우로 분류하고, 억양 패턴 다섯 개로 분류하여. 모두 10개의 운율구 set으로 나누었다. 그리고 네 개의 파라미터를 가지고 있는 운율구의 억양 패턴을 벡터 양자화 방식을 이용하여 분류(clusteing)하였다 운율의 변화가 두드러지는 조사와 어미는 12 point의 기본주파수 값을 추출하고 벡터 양자화하였다. 운율구와 조사 어미의 codebook index는 문장에 대한 특징 변수 값을 추출하고 CART를 사용하여 예측하였다. 합성할 때에는 입력 tort에 대해서 운율구의 억양 파라미터를 추정한 다음, 조사와 어미의 12 point 기본주파수 값을 추정하여 전체 억양 곡선을 생성하였고 본 연구실에서 제작한 음성합성기를 통해 합성하였다.

Estimation of Rain-Attenuation for Millimeter-Wave Propagation in Domestic Environments (국내환경에 적합한 밀리미터파대역에서의 강우감쇄 추정)

  • The rain attenuatio of a radio channel above 10 GHz can have impact on the availability of the radio channel. The severity of the rain impairments increases with frequency and varies with regional location. This paper presents an estimation method for rain attenuation for millimeter-wave propagation in domestic environments. the dropsize distribution is assumed to be exponential, and the measurement data in the various countries which are simlar to the domestic environments are compared with the theoretical one by varying the dropsize distribution. A rain-rate conversion model which can convert .tau.-minutes rain-rate data to 1-minute rain-rate data for domestic environments is also discussed. Using the converted domestic rain-rate data, probabilty distributions of rain attenuation are computed.

  • This paper proposes an advanced filter design to improve power quality of a head electric power (HEP) as a power conversion unit in centralized-power type electric railway vehicle. First of all, we have measured waveform of output power of transformer connected HEP to design the filter. Throughout experiment and simulation results, it is estimated that switching technique used HEP is advanced selected harmonic elimination PWM (SHEPWM) and the applied switching frequency is about 300Hz. In this paper, a filter to improve power quality considering estimated parameters is designed. As a result, the reduction of the magnitude of the overall harmonic is achieved and confirmed through simulations.

  • This paper proposes the Focused beamforming to estimate the location of target residing near to the observation platform in the underwater environment. The Focused beamforming technique provides the location of target by the coherent summation of a series of incident spherical waveforms considering distinct propagation delay times at the sensor array. But due to the movement of the observation platform and the variation of the underwater environment, the shape of the sensor array is no longer to be linear but it becomes distorted as the platform moves. Thus the Focused beamforming should be peformed regarding to the geometric shape variation at each time. To estimate the target location, the artificial image plane comprised of cells is constructed, and the delays are calculated from each cell where the target could be proximity to sensors for the coherent summation. After the coherent combining, the beam pattern can be obtained through the Focused beamforming on the image plane. Futhermore to compensate the variation of the shape of the sensor array, the paper utilizes the Nth-order polynomial approximation to estimate the shape of the sensor array obeying the water pulley modeling. Simulation results show the performance of the Focused beamforming for different frequency bands of the radiated signal.

  • In this paper, we study receiver design issue to apply the OFDM based WLAN specification, such as 802.11p, to the communications in high speed mobile environment, e.g., for the ICT based railroad control on a train having its speed up to 300 km/hr. To successfully apply the existing WLAN specifications without modifying its transmission format, the performance at the receiver will solely depends on the channel estimation performance if we ignore the affect of frequency offset With a speed of multiple hundred km/hr, the channel estimation using only the preamble will not provide enough precision since the channel changes so fast. Therefore, in this paper, taking the high mobility into account, we focus on the design of decision directed channel estimation and equalization techniques and perform simulations to evaluate and compare their performances and to finally confirm the applicability of the existing WLAN specification to the systems with very high mobility.

  • Recently, some variable length adaptive filters which employ variable lengths taps for the input signal statistics are proposed [1-5]. In this paper, a new subband adaptive filter with variable filter tap length is proposed. The proposed subband variable length adaptive filters can optimize filter length for each subband which can result less computational complexities with respect to the conventional full band adaptive filters. When the signal in the full band has narrow spectrum, the conventional full band adaptive requires very long filter taps, whereas the proposed subband variable filter requires less taps with the spectrum split in subband. The computer simulation results reveals that in many case, in system identification with narrow band system estimation, the proposed adaptive filter has less computational complexities with faster convergence.

  • This paper proposes a unified time-domain channel estimator (UTD-CE) for ubiquitous wireless broadband access based on orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. As a part of a software radio platform for ubiquitous services, the proposed UTD-CE can be exploited with the simply changeable parameters, pilot symbols and pilot subcarriers allocation, which are usually different according to the system specifications such as IEEE802.11x WiFI, IEEE802.16x WiMAX, DMB, Media FLO, DVB-H, etc. Given the pilot information, the channel frequency responses (CFRs) of data subcarriers will be analogously estimated by Wiener filtering and discrete Fourier transform (DFT)-based interpolation in the UTD-CE. Simulation results indicate that the proposed method significantly outperforms the conventional time-domain channel estimator when the pilot information is changed.

  • Intracavity frequency doubling of a single-mode Nd:YAG laser by using a nonplanar ring cavity is demonstrated. The nonplanar ring cavity consists of a Brewster-angled Nd:YAG crystal placed in a magnetic field, a KTP crystal, and two spherical mirrors. In this design the Nd:YAG block acts as both a nonreciprocal polarization rotator and a partial polarizer, and the nonplanar portion of the ring cavity, which is formed by a relative twist angle between the Brewster-angled end surfaces of the Nd:YAG block, serves as a reciprocal polarization rotator. An eigenpolarization theory for the cavity configuration is presented and suitable values of the relative twist angle for unidirectional operation are estimated. A single-mode output power of 22 ㎽ at 532 nm and an optical to optical conversion efficiency of 1.8% are obtained with a 1.2 W diode laser at 809 nm.

  • We propose a transmit beamforming algerian for array antenna in FDD (Frequency Division Duplex) environments. The proposed method estimates the directions and spectra of the users, and constructs the spatial covariance matrix of the interferences at the downlink frequency. The weights are computed by that covariance matrix and desired user's direction vector Simulations are performed under Rayleigh fading environments. The proposed method don't need the data feedback, has the enhanced performance in BER (Bit Error Rate).

  • We have developed an one-dimensional (ID) inversion program that can invert multiple frequency small-loop EM data from horizontal coplanar (HCP) and vertical coplanar (VCP) configurations. The inverse problem is solved using least-squares method with active constraint balancing (ACB) method and Jacobian matrix is calculated analytically. Tests using synthetic data from simple ID models indicate that conductivity and depth of each layer can be estimated properly when both real and imaginary data are used together.
