Periodic Mixed Waveform Measurement Techniques for Compact Radar Transmitter with Phase-Continuous Signal (소형 레이더 송신기의 연속 위상을 갖는 주기성 혼합 파형 측정 기법)

  • In this paper, we propose the measurement techniques of mixed waveform. Mixed waveform has phase-continuous periodic waveform with fixed frequency signal and Linear Frequency Modulation(LFM) signal. This waveform is generated from a compact radar transmitter with frequency synthesizer and high power amplifier. Frequency synthesizer generates various signal waveform with continuos phase and high power amplifier amplify transmitting signal. First, we describe a compact radar transmitter with the phase-continuos signal and then verify the distortion characteristic of pulse compression by the mismatch of LFM waveform. Second, we describe three kinds of measurement techniques for measuring LFM waveform. These techniques include methods using signal analyzer, signal source analyzer and new methods using RF mixer and phase shifter. Finally, we verify the accuracy of the measurement technique from the pulse compression result of receiving signal.

  • 본 논문은 차등 위상 편이 변조(DPSK) 시스템에서 파일럿 없이 주파수 추정하는 기법을 제안한다. 제안하는 주파수 동기오차 추정 방식은 파일럿을 사용하지 않고 DPSK 변조 방식에서 연속되는 신호의 차등 위상신호를 전송하는 특성을 사용하는 블라인드 기법이다. DPSK 신호의 위상 차분은 주파수 오차 추정을 실행 할 때 페이즈를 증가시켜 왜곡으로 작용하게 되는데, 본 논문에서는 간단한 상관기와 제곱기로 이러한 특성을 제거하여 주파수 추정 성능을 증가 시킨다. 알고리즘의 검증은 수식과 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션으로 수행한다.

Image Rejection Method with Circular Trajectory Characteristic of Single-Frequency Continuous-Wave Signal (단일 주파수 연속파 신호의 원형 궤도 특성을 이용한 영상 제거 방법)

  • This paper presents a new image rejection algorithm based on the analysis of the distortion of a single-frequency continuous-wave (CW) signal due to the I/Q mismatch. Existing methods estimated the gain mismatch and phase mismatch on RF receivers and compensated them However, this paper shows that the circular trajectory of a single-frequency CW signal is distorted elliptic-type trajectory due to the I/Q mismatch. Utilizing the analysis, we propose a I/Q mismatch compensation method. It has two processing steps. In the first processing step, the generated signal is rotated to align the major axis of the elliptic-type trajectory diagram with the x-axis. In the second processing step, the Q-channel signal in the regenerated signal is scaled to align the regenerated signal with the transmitted single-frequency CW signal. Simulation results show that a receiver using the proposed image rejection algorithm can achieve an image rejection ratio of more than 70dB. And, simulation results show that the bit error rate performances of receivers using the proposed image rejection algorithm are almost the same as those of conventional coherent demodulators, even in fading channels.

Double Duobinary MSK Modeling of the SOQPSK-TG Signal (SOQPSK-TG 신호의 이중 듀오바이너리 MSK 모델링)

  • The SOQPSK-TG is a modulated signal for aeronautical telemetry with a very good bandwidth efficiency. In this paper, the frequency waveform filter of the SOQPSK-TG is linearly approximated and modeled with a duobinary precoder and a modified frequency waveform filter having a phase transition period of about 1Tb. In combination with the existing precoder, the SOQPSK-TG is modeled by a double duobinary MSK. Comparing the SOQPSK-TG signal and the newly modeled double duobinary MSK signal in time domain and frequency domain, it is confirmed that the two signals are almost identical and there is virtually no performance difference. Moreover, we can attain 0.1 dB BER performance improvement compared to the existing cosine filter when the filter of the IQ-detector is implemented with a cosine sum filter taking into account the change in the modulation index by the new double doubinary precoder.

  • In this paper, it is presented a level sensor for measuring a level of the contents of cargo tank using frequency modulated continuous wave(FMCW). The frequency range is 10∼11 GHz, the radar cross section(RCS) of target is 0.8 ㎡ of metal plate. the experiment is performed in laboratory and open ground, the sweep time of the signal is 100 ms, the pyramidal horn antenna of about 20 dBi gain is used, and input power of antenna is about 5 dBm. the beat frequency according to the target moving to 40 m is measured. There is a good agreement between measured and calculated results. But the resolution of the FMCW radar is measured about 10 cm due to nonlinear of voltage controlled oscillator(VCO).

  • The purpose of this paper was to study how to improve the occurrence of abnormal altitude values of radio altimeter, due to RF interference signals during the flight of aircraft. In flight missions, since it performs a roll-out after several high maneuvers, accurate altitude must be displayed to effectively perform flight missions. Thus, a root cause analysis and trouble shooting were performed for the display of abnormal altitude values of radar altimeters, and a method of reducing RF interference signals by installing an attenuator was examined. Additionally, the verification results for the improvements are also described.

  • We propose a correction method of nonlinear frequency sweep in an FMCW(Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave) laser range finder. FMCW laser range finder requires linear frequency sweep for high resolution, and nonlinear frequency sweep makes the system performance degrade. In general, VCO(Voltage Controlled Oscillator) which is a component used for frequency modulation in FMCW method has nonlinear property. To correct the nonlinear frequency sweep, we utilize an auxiliary delay structure for generating trigger signal of ADC(Analog to Digital Converter). Because the trigger signal has same rate of change with the beat signal, the nonlinearity of the beat signal can be corrected. the experimental results show that the proposed method effectively eliminates the nonlinear frequency sweep problem and enhances the system performance.

  • 액체탱크의 레벨을 정밀측정하는 데 FMCW(Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave)를 이용하고자 한다. 우리는 1GHz 대역폭으로 Sweep하는 Frequency Source Module을 개발하여 테스트 중이다. 개발한 송수신 모듈은 주파수의 송수신을 위한 주요부품들로 구성되는데, VCO(Voltage Controlled Oscillator), 서큘레이터(Circulator), 필터(Filter), 전력분배기(Power Divider), PLL(Phase Locked Loop)제어부, 믹서, 증폭기 등이 그것이다. 이들 부품들이 위치한 RF Board와, 패치로 구성한 안테나를 이용하여 마이크로웨이브 신호를 송수신할 수 있으며, 송수신한 신호 간의 차주파수(beat frequency)성분을 측정하면 거리정보를 획득할 수 있다. 차주파수의 아날로그신호는 DSP를 이용하여 FFT를 수행하여 주파수 성분을 찾아 거리계산을 하도록 개발하였다. 거리 측정의 성능에 영향을 미치는 가장 큰 요소는 안정된 주파수를 만들어 낼 수 있느냐 하는 것이다. 본 논문에서는 제작한 VCO 모듈을 비롯한 개발 중인 각 모듈들을 소개하였다. 향후 VCO의 선형성 개선과, 난반사에 대한 Echo Cancel 알고리듬을 적용하여 제품의 상용화를 목표로 한다.

Design of LUT-Based Decimation Filter for Continuous-Time PWM ADC (연속-시간 펄스-폭-변조 ADC를 위한 LUT 기반 데시메이션 필터 설계)

  • A continuous-time Delta-Sigma ADC has various benefits; it does not require an explicit anti-aliasing filter, and it is able to handle wider-band signals with less power consumption in comparison with a discrete-time Delta-Sigma ADC. However, it inherently needs to sample the signal with a high-speed clock, necessitating a complex decimation filter that operates at high speed in order to convert the modulator output to a low-rate high-resolution digital signals without causing aliasing. This paper proposes a continuous-time Delta-Sigma ADC architecture that employs pulse-width modulation and shows that the proposed architecture lends itself to a simpler implementation of the decimation filter using a lookup table.

A Digital Input Class-D Audio Amplifier (디지털 입력 시그마-델타 변조 기반의 D급 오디오 증폭기)

  • A sigma-delta modulator based class-D audio amplifier is presented. Parallel digital input is serialized to two-bit output by a fourth-order digital sigma-delta noise shaper. The output of the digital sigma-delta noise shaper is applied to a fourth-order analog sigma-delta modulator whose three-level output drives power switches. The pulse density modulated (PDM) output of the power switches is low-pass filtered by an LC-filter. The PDM output of the power switches is fed back to the input of the analog sigma-delta modulator. The first integrator of the analog sigma-delta modulator is a hybrid of continuous-time (CT) and switched-capacitor (SC) integrator. While the sampled input is applied to SC path, the continuous-time feedback signal is applied to CT path to suppress the noise of the PDM output. The class-D audio amplifier is fabricated in a standard $0.13-{\mu}m$ CMOS process and operates for the signal bandwidth from 100-Hz to 20-kHz. With 4-${\Omega}$ load, the maximum output power is 18.3-mW. The total harmonic distortion plus noise and dynamic range are 0.035-% and 80-dB, respectively. The modulator consumes 457-uW from 1.2-V power supply.
