  • In light of the recent increase in new independent spaces within the field of artistic production, this study seeks to examine the daily experience and art practice of agents in such spaces. In-depth interviews were conducted with fifteen emerging artists, who manage new independent art spaces and participate actively in related activities, and the significance of their activities was analyzed. An important theoretical foundation of this study is Bourdieu's concept of the field of cultural production. According to Bourdieu, in order to understand a specific field, the habitus of agents must be studied together with the structure of the field. This study found that individuals belonging to the same or a close generation exhibit similar attitudes to life based on shared experiences, and they can be connected to their art practice. Most agents of new spaces did not have high expectations for success, and chose to practice art independently while bonding with their peers and enjoying the moment rather than wait for recognition or funding from external sources. Their self-fulfilling habitus is condition-specific and can be regarded as a form of flexible art practice. Given the poor conditions of today's field of artistic production, this is likely to serve as an advantage in entering the field and in position-taking. The social significance of this study lies in the fact that the aforementioned characteristics of the agents of independent production spaces not only reflect the current field of artistic production but also other fields of cultural production at large in our society.

This research observes the practices of new genre public art and focuses on the problems of the revealing nature of new genre public art through the analysis of the interrelations among government, artists, and the residents by through observation on the , Seoul City Gallery project from October 2008 to January 2009. The implementation of the project is divided into three constituent parts: local government for funding, artists for planning and implementing, and residents. Local government supports and commands the public art works to create more competitive and harmonious city. Artists emphasize the revitalization of community and take the residents as the passive objects of enlightenment. Whereas, the residents hope to use the funds to improve economic conditions. Artists accept the top-down commands of government, whereas residents tend to passively participate and become objects for enlightenment by artists, after all, might be alienated by the project. These kinds of communications and relationships raise the issue of the possibility of failure of public arts projects.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze social perceptions and discourses about creating arts in the era of artificial intelligence with making an implication of responding to the emergence of artificial intelligence. We conceptually understand the principles and limitations of creating visual arts using artificial intelligence whilst this paper addresses ai art in the social context by borrowing the theoretical lens from the sociology of arts. This article considers 472 newspapers about artificial intelligence art as the main data, which are interpreted through semantic network analysis. The analysis of this research shows that it is a controversial issue regarding who/which creates the artworks between humans and computers. However, judging from the dominant influence of a group of words representing the recognition of intellectual property rights, we have detected that social awareness is formed around the perspective of considering artificial intelligence creates visual arts rather than artists. In addition, based on the close relationship between the cluster and the cluster reflecting institutional support, we confirm that the discourse about artificial intelligence art is limited to technological development and legal system maintenance. Thus, this study suggests the need for defining artificial intelligence as the medium of art and constructing policy discourses on artificial intelligence art as an artistic genre.

  • This paper aims to understand the agents which have an impact upon artists' career development. By critically exploring previous research, this article conceptualizes the roles of intermediaries such as art schools, galleries, critics, and collectors in influencing the careers for artists. The qualitative case study is conducted by selecting KAWS as an intrinsic case. This study collects secondary data about the career trajectory of KAWS by various sources, which are analyzed according to the conceptual framework. The outcome of this research clarifies previous research from a sociological point of view in which highlights the significant importance of the art world's gallery, critics, media and collectors in developing the artist's career. In this paper, more importantly, the public attention to artists is construed as one of the agents influencing the career development of artists.

  • Museums are producing new value and being redefined as places that reproduce context, as the process of globalization are being reflected in museum activities. The new additional functions and roles to the traditional mission of museums allow artworks to find potential functions of art archive and meseum. At the same time, the public has faced originality and aura of an artwork by viewing the physical subject. However, with the appearance of a new digital object, the initiative of viewing has moved over from the artwork to the hands of the public. Now, the public does not go to the museum to see an artwork, but has started to adopt to an opposite paradigm of bringing the artwork forward to the screen. Therefore, they are not satisfied any longer with just seeing an artwork, but demand more information about the artworks and reproduce it as knowledge. Therefore, this study aimed to find types and characteristics through definition and range selection of art archive at this point where the value of art archive is enhanced and systematic management is required, and to present record management methods according to art archive structure and core execution function. It especially stressed that the basis of overall art archive definition was in an 'approach' paradigm rather than a 'preservation' paradigm, and embodied various application methods of digitalized art records. The digital object of an artwork was recognized as the first materialization of an actual artwork, and the digital original of an artwork was presented as the core record. Art archive managed under physical and intellectual control were organically restructured focusing on digital original copies of artworks, which are the core record in a digital technology environment, and could be provided to users in forms of various services that meet their demands. The beginning of systematic management of such art records will become a first step to enhance historical value, establish art cultural identity, and truly possess art culture.

  • Interactive Media Art has been developed a lot in digital age. Especially, the audience try to make interactions by accessing the world of art as one of main interacting figures, while they used to be totally separated from the art in traditional art. Also, it is one of exclusive features distinguished from the other art genres. In this thesis, the intercommunication process of interactive media art is classified and compared with Merleau-Ponty's corporeity phenomenology theories. Merleau-Ponty's corporeity phenomenology insists integrated perception through body against the western intelligence philosophy focusing on binomial reasons. Merleau-Ponty's corporeity phenomenology, which suggested the new perception way towards the art, is analyzed in this thesis by comparing it with detailed factors of Intercommunication process of Interactive Media Art. The Intercommunication process of Media Art is classified into , , , , . Additionally, they are studied and compared with the concept of , , , , out of Ponty's corporeity phenomenology theories. Therefore, it is concluded clearly that corporeity, synesthesia, poly sensation and spaciality drawn from Intercommunication process of Media Art have something in common with Ponty's corporeity phenomenology theories rather than the other art genre or minimalism art styles. Furthermore, a new direction of study upon modern Interactive Media Art is suggested.

  • The advent of image generative AI has made it possible for people who are not experts in art and design to create finished artworks through text input. With the increasing availability of generated images and their impact on the art industry, there is a need for research on how users perceive the process of co-creating with AI. In this study, we conducted an experimental study to investigate the expected and experienced processes of image generative AI creation among general users and to find out which processes affect users' sense of creative agency. The results showed that there was a gap between the expected and experienced creative process, and users tended to perceive a low sense of creative agency. We recommend eight ways that AI can act as an enabler to support users' creative intentions so that they can experience a higher sense of creative agency. This study can contribute to the future development of image-generating AI by considering user-centered creative experiences.
