Grouting is frequently used before the construction of subsea tunnels to mitigate problems that can occur in weak ground zones such as joints, faults or unconsolidated settlements during construction. The grout material injected into rock mass often flows through the discontinuities present in the host rock and hence, joint properties such as its distribution, roughness and thickness greatly affect the properties of grouting-improved rocks. The grouting-improved zones near subsea tunnels are also subjected to high water pressures that can cause long-term weathering in the form of changes in grout microstructure and crack formation and lead to subsequent changes in ground properties. Therefore, an assessment method is needed to accurately measure changes in the grouting-improved zones near subsea tunnels. In this study, the elastic wave propagation characteristics in grouting-improved rocks were tested for various axial stress levels, curing time, joint roughness and thickness conditions under laboratory conditions and the results were compared with wave velocity standards in different Korean rock mass classification systems to provide a basis for inferring improvement in grouted rock-mass.

With increasing underwater structure construction, there is high interest in offshore foundation and underwater grout and various study has been done in this area. For grout materials constructed underwater, it may be washed away by water or easily disturbed and material separation phenomenon during curing period always happens. As a result, it is difficult to ensure construction quality and this has a significant influence on the design strength of structure. In this study, to understand application effects of anti-washout admixture for the preplaced construction method, where grout is injected in monopile after filled with aggregates, laboratory tests on bleeding and compressive strength of anti-washout admixture were performed under various test conditions varying size of aggregate, water and cement ratio and admixture, and test results were compared and evaluated.
The use of filling material based on cement paste is inefficient at field construction because it needs a lot of the charging mass. In addition, it has environmental problem according to the large amount of cement use because its strength is also larger than criterion. The excavated soil with stabilizer can be used as the filling materials when the bored pile is constructed. Therefore, this paper describes field application of solidified soil for economical efficiency and environment-friendly. The static axial load tests and the load-transfer measurements were performed to examine the axial resistant behavior of the piles. As results, the flowability, segregation and bleeding, and bond strength of filling materials was a good performance than that of the existing cement paste. But the skin friction of pile by PDA was slightly decreased than that of the existing cement paste. However, as pile filling materials, and in terms of economics and environment, the applicability of filling material is considered very effective.

Prepacked concrete has recently been used in the special constructions fields such as underwater concrete work, heavy-weight concrete work, underground structure work, partial repair works for damaged reinforced concrete structures. and polymer-modified mortars have been employed as grouting mortars for the prepacked concrete. The purpose of this study is to recommend the optimum mix design of polymer-modified grouting mortars for prepacked concrete. Polymer-modified mortars using SBR and EVA emulsions as admixture of grouting mortars for prepacked concrete are prepared with various mix proportions such as sand-binder ratio, fly ash replacement ratio, polymer-binder ratio. and tested for flowability, viscosity of grouting mortars, bleeding ratio, expansion ratio, flexural and compressive strengths of grouting mortars and compressive and tensile strengths of prepacked concretes. From the test results, it is apparent that polymer-modified mortars can be produced as grouting mortars when proper mix design is chosen. We can design the mix proportions of high strength mortars for prepacked concrete according to the control of mix design factors such as type of polymer, polymer-binder ratio, sand-binder ratio and fly ash replacement ratio. Water-binder ratio of plain mortars for a constant flowability value are in the ranges of 43% to 50%. SBR-modified mortar has a little water-binder ratios compared to those of plain mortar, however, EVA-modified mortar needs a high water-binder ratio due to a high viscosity of polymer dispersion. The expansion and bleeding ratios of grouting mortars are also controlled in the proper value ranges. Polymer-modified grouting mortars have good flexural. compressive and tensile strengths, are not affected with various properties with increasing fly ash replacement to cement and binder-sand ratio. In this study, SBR-modified grouting mortar with a polymer-binder ratio of 10% or less, a fly ash replacement of 10% to cement and a sand-binder ratio of 1.5 is recommended as a grouting mortar for prepacked concrete.

Subsea tunnel built in abyssal zone is exposed to environment under high water pressure caused by seawater and etc., and this high pressure from underground water may facilitate leaching. In particular, since underground water can be easily flown in during construction, this might cause many problems related to cutoff water. Therefore, in order to secure safety, it is necessary to apply grouting equipment and materials which are appropriate to construction environment. Accordingly, in this research, evaluation was made on the physical characteristics of grouting materials (strength, leaching and etc. depending on curing methods for each of used materials and condition) which can be applied during subsea tunnel construction. As a result of this research, stable strength increase was found in CA and CSA type, and it is determined that no decrease in their durability was found, so these can be used as stable materials for structures under influenced by seawater.
In this study, the suitability of the grouting method will be evaluated by analyzing seismic reinforcement methods for the stability of gravity structure in Port. The evaluation categories are liquefaction, sliding, toppling and circular failure. To compare the appropriateness of the seismic reinforcement method, the low mobility mortar injection, one of the grouting method and the SPC file and GRB method, which are pile wall type reinforcement methods, were evaluated and compared respectively. The object of the evaluation is the gravitational structure of Po-Hang old port. As a result of the evaluation, both the grouting method and the pile wall type reinforcement method are considered to have sufficient stability. Therefore, in the case of the gravity structure, the grouting method is more efficient than the seismic reinforcement method considering construction efficiency, economic efficiency, maintenance and similar construction cases.
This study aimed to determine the extent of artificial aquifer recharge and to evaluate appropriate recharge techniques based on field investigations and comparative analysis of each recharge method. Characteristics of the aquifer determine the target aquifer and the recharge method for artificial groundwater recharge. Electrical conductivity surveys, drilling, permeability tests, and grain-size analysis indicate that the hydraulic conductivity of weathered soil and weathered rock is higher than that of upper unconsolidated soil. Pumping tests indicate that the groundwater level was stable at a depth of 12 m until 9 hours of pumping, but after that it dropped again, indicating anisotropic aquifer characteristics. Three types of artificial recharge method were reviewed, including recharge wells, ditches, and ponds, and a combination of two methods is proposed: a recharge well system directly injecting into weathered soil and rock sections with good permeability, and an injection ditch that can increase the recharge effect by line-type injection in the upstream area. The extent of groundwater recharge by the selected methods will be evaluated through on-site tests and if their applicability is verified, they will contribute to securing water in areas of water shortage.
This study analyzes the environmental and durability problems of traditional (LW) grouting method. And the proposed method was compared to the others effects by analyzing the in-situ applicability and effect of performance of the method using the silica sol. This study analyzed the eco-friendly, effects of high strength silica sol through laboratory tests. The effects of the construction process were identified through the field tests. The compressive strength was increased by 1.3 times compared to the LW method and the shrinkage is 3~8 times less than that of LW method with water glass. No toxicity, which could affect soil contamination. In particular, it was confirmed that the Toxicity fish also survived with little pH change in the concentration tank. Also it confirmed the construction effects through field test. Field tests are a standard penetration test, permeability test, LLT, BST. Permeability was reduced to $1{\times}10^{-5{\sim}-6}cm/sec$.
Ground dynamic parameter such as shear elastic modulus and damping ratio is a very important variable in design of ground-structure with repeated load and dynamic load. Shear elastic modulus and damping ratio on small strain below linear limit strain is constant regardless of strain. Shear elastic modulus as the maximum shear elastic modulus and damping ratio as the minimum damping ratio were considered. As a lot of experiment related to the maximum shear elastic modulus, which is in dynamic deformation characteristics, have been conducted, many factors including voiding ratio, over consolidation ratio(OCR), confining pressure, geology time, PI, and the number of load cycle affect to dynamic soil characteristic. However, the research of ground dynamic characteristic improved with grout is absent such as underground continuous wall construction, deep mixing method, umbrella arch method. In order to investigate the dynamic soil characteristics improved with grout, in this study, resonant column tests were performed with changing water content(20%, 25%, 30%) and injection ratio of grout(5%, 10%, 15%), cure time(7th day, 28th day) As a result, shear elastic modulus and damping ratio, which are ground dynamic parameter, are affected by the injection ratio of milk grout, cure time and water content.

A series of experiments were performed to investigate the design and application of a rubble-ground modification method with grout injection. A small-sized injection machine was designed, and the grouts with various mix proportions were injected into 25 mm aggregate using the designed small-sized injection machine. With the compressive strength of the grout ranging from 20 to 80 MPa, the uniaxial compressive strength of the grout-filling bodies with clean gravels was higher than 1/6th of the strength of grouts themselves. However, this fraction may reduce depending on the interface conditions. The erosion resistance of the hardened grout was evaluated, and it was determined that the grout with a strength greater than 15 MPa did not require erosion consideration. Moreover, a full-scale injection test was performed for 25 cm-sized rubbles in cages with a diameter greater than 1 m and a height of 1.2 m to evaluate the filling characteristics of the grout. Results from this test indicated that the grout flowability sensitively influenced the filling characteristics.
