  • This work was undertaken to study the effect of stigmatic and cut-style pollination on self seed set in Lilium longiflorum and L. ${\times}$ formolongi, and their crosses as the female parent with other cultivars/genotypes. Stigmatic pollination of L. longiflorum cv. Gelria and Lorina resulted in cent per cent fruit set with mean number of seeds/fruit of 189 and 70, respectively. However, cut-style pollination resulted in 87% and 40% fruit set in Gelria and Lorina, respectively. The corresponding mean number of seeds/fruit was 53 and 20. In L. ${\times}$ formolongi, stigmatic pollination set 80% fruits with 736 seeds/fruit. On the other hand, cut-style pollination resulted in 47% fruit set with 81 seeds/fruit. The intraspecific stigmatic pollination of L. longiflorum cv. Gelria and Lorina with other cultivars formed 60% fruits with a mean number of 18 seeds/fruit. However, only 20% fruit set with mean number of seeds/fruit of 7 was recorded when cut-style pollination of L. longiflorum cultivar were pollinated with other cultivars/genotypes. In the intraspecific pollination of L. ${\times}$ formolongi cv. Raizan with Novia, fruit set resulting from stigmatic and cut-style pollination was 75% and 50%, respectively with the corresponding mean number of seeds/fruit of 579 and 98. It was concluded that self as well as intraspecific seed set in the two species of Lilium gets considerably reduced as a result of cut-style pollination.

  • Operative treatment including a bone graft and an internal fixation was done in a fifteen-year old wrestler with transverse olecranon stress fracture. At 6 weeks after the operation, he could start active muscle strengthening exercise and returned to the previous level of exercise at 6 monthes after surgery. Conservative treatment including resting and muscle strengthening exercise was performed in an eighteen-year old baseball player with oblique olecranon stress fracture. At the follow-up of three months, he could start staged throwing exercise without pain or tenderness. He returned the previous level of throwing following strengthening exercise for 6 months.

  • The ovaries or the ovules of grasses were pollinated and cultured in vitro to raise the interspecific or the intergeneric hybrids between tall fescue, meadow fescue, and Italian ryegrass. The isolated and suface-sterili-zed pistils were dusted with compatible pollens on stigma, on stump after removing stigma, or on excised ovule. Furthermore, the fertilized ovaries and ovules were cultured on MS, M6, or White's media and treated with plant growth regulators: IAA, kinetin, BA to promote embryo development and seed maturity. The in vitro fertilization in grass species ranged from 44 to 92% depending on ovary and pollen parents. The stigmatic pollination was resulted in 67.8% fertilization, the stump pollination 89.0%, and the excised ovule pollination 61.0%, repectively. White's medium was the most effective to provide embryo development and seed maturity in grass species. And the combined treatment of IAA 10mg/$\ell$, kinetin 0.2mg/$\ell$, was better than the non-treatment. Only two seedlings, one complete and one abnormal with root formation were obtained from 127 ovaryies cultured. The anatomy of ovules in vitro cultured was revealed the differentiation of vascular system and meristematic tissue, and the formation of sclerenchyma cells inside ovule.

  • Tension band wiring of olecranon fractures is recognized as an effective method for fixation and union Complications as non-union, limitation of motion and subcutaneous k-wire protrusion are occasionally reported. But, there are no references about limitation of forearm rotation after tension band fixation. We report two cases of limitation of forearm rotation after tension band fixation of olecranon fracture.

  • External and anatomical characters such as stem, leaf, ovary, calyx lobe, ultrastructure of stigma epidermis of leaf blade and midvein, corolla lobe, seed coat and pollen were examined on Pterygocalyx volubilis and Tripterospermum japonicum of Korean Gentianaceae. Fruit characters(capsule and berry), absent or not of corona and pollen characters(reticulate and striate) has been used by identification characters of two taxa. But study results, external characters(root, leaf, calyx lobe, stigma, anther), internal characters(calyx love, ovary) and ultrastructure characters(epidermis o leaf blade and midvein, corolla lobe, seed coat) were useful for species identification. Taxonomic relationships among problematic taxa were discussed.

  • A new species, Fimbristylis drizae J. Kim & M. Kim, is named and described from Sucheong Lake, Jeongeup-si, Jeollabuk-do, Korea. Fimbristylis drizae shares several characters (five-angled culm, 1-2 bladeless sheath, and compound anthela inflorescence) with the related species F. diphylloides Makino. It is, however, distinct from F. diphylloides, which has two to three stigmas, ovate spikelets, two stamens, a blackish brown scale, and a roadside habitat. In contrast, the new species has two stigmas, oval spikelets, one (or rarely two) stamens, a yellowish brown scale, and a lakeside habitat.
