A Study on the Dynamic Behavior Characteristics of Steel Column Base using Energy Absorbtion High Strength Bolt (에너지 흡수형 고력볼트를 사용한 철골 주각부의 동적 거동 특성에 관한 연구)

  • Column base is very important part of steel structure because it transmits load to foundation in structure. Column base which is used frame construction in the inside and outside of the country is distributed into exposed-type, concrete encased and imbeded-type. Exposed-type column base is most profitable, if consider reuse and recycle of elements first of all. In this study, we proposed a new style exposed-type column base improved in performance for construction work and mechanical performance.

  • Manufacturing conventional column base plate requires much manpower and time. In this research, a new method for constructing column base plate is introduced to improve on conventional methods through the use ofcast steel that is available for adjusting base plate thickness and enlarging base plate stiffness. The main purposes include reducing welding work, enlarging base plate stiffness, and clarifying the stress flow. Also, construction convenience and improvement in quality can be expected. For developing this cast steel base plate, test specimens of conventional and cast steel base plates are made and tested to analyze strength and stiffness. Also, the efficiency for long-term use is checked by fatigue tests. From these comparative tests, cast steel base plates have the same strength and stiffness as conventional base plates.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate the behavior of concrete-filled tube columns for footing connections. Eight specimens were tested to investigate such structural behavior according to the column base type. The specimens consisted of concrete-filled steel tube columns (or bare steel tube columns), reinforced concrete footings, and base plates (or stud connectors). The specimens were subjected to lateral cyclic load. The cyclic load was applied according to a predetermined strength sequence. The results of the experiment indicated that the flexural strength of the stud-connector- type column base is higher than that of the base-plate-type column base. The structural behavior of the concrete-filled tube column base was similar to that of the bare steel column base.

Seismic Evaluation of Exposed Column-base Plate Weak-axis Connections Using L-shaped Hooked Anchor Bolts (L형 갈고리 앵커볼트를 사용한 약축방향 노출형 주각부의 내진성능 평가)

  • In this study, seismic performance was evaluated for the exposed column-base plate weak-axis connections of small size steel structures through cyclic loading tests. The primary test parameters are the thickness of base plate, the presence of rib plates, the number of anchor bolts and embedment length of anchor bolts. To investigate the effect of bond performance of anchor bolts on the seismic performance of column-base plate connections, L-shaped round bars and thread bars were used as the hooked anchor bolts in the test specimens. Test results showed that bond performance of anchor bolts and the thickness of base plate significantly affect the structural performance and energy dissipation capacity. In particular, it was found that even if the requirements for minimum thickness of the base plate that is satisfied, the base plate can yield before the capacity of steel column reaches the plastic moment resulting in decreasing the structural performance of the connections. However, the proposed details of the connections might be considered as the partially restrained, that is semi-rigid connections. Consequently, the L-shaped thread anchor bolts is applicable in the exposed column-base plate weak-axis connections of small-size steel structures.

An analytical study on the structural behavior of H shape column base plates under axial loads and moments (축력과 모멘트를 받는 H형강 주각부의 거동에 관한 해석적 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the behavior of H-shape column base plates subjected to axial loads and moments. In this study, the behavior of H-shape column base plates is investigated using finite element analysis method and an analytical modelingof the base plates is obtained. The variations of six test specimens include ratiosof axial load, sizes of anchor bolts, and thicknesses of base plates. The experimental results are compared with the results from the finite element analyses and those of the analytical modeling. Bearing pressures of base plates from the finite element analyses are compared with those that are assumed in the design of the base plates. From the results of the research, it is observed that the initial stiffness and yield strengths in the analytical study are very similar to the experimental results. And bearing pressures are concentrated under column section with thin base plates.

Cyclic Loading Test for Exposed Column-base Plate Connections of Small-size Steel Structures (소규모 철골조 노출형 주각부의 반복가력 실험)

  • Cyclic loading tests for a total of nine test specimens were performed to evaluate the seismic performance of the exposed steel column-base plate connections. From the tests, flexural strength, deformation capacity, energy dissipation, and initial stiffness were investigated. The primary test parameters were the thickness of base-plate, embedment length of anchor bolt, the presence of hook, and rib plates. Test results showed that flexural behavior of column base-plate connection was substantially affected by the base-plate thickness, embedment length and the number of anchor bolts. On the other hand, the effect of rib plates on the increase of the flexural performance was not observed. The initial stiffness of the test specimens was about 15% of the flexural stiffness obtained by assuming that the support is fixed. As a result, even if the exposed column base-plate is designed in accordance with current design recommendations, in case that bond strength between concrete and the anchor bolts is not sufficient, the base-plate connection showed an unaccceptable load-displacement behavior.

  • Recently, the steel has been increaseingly used as an integrated part of high-rise buildings, which often composed of steel structures, steel reinforced concrete structures and composite structures. The steel base is designed to transfer the stresses induced from steel column to the reinforced concrete footing through the base plate. However, in the design of steel structures and steel reinforced concrete structure, it is generally difficult to evaluate the bearing strength of the steel base subjected to large axial force. Furthermore, the material used in steel base is quite different from those used in other connections and a load transferring mechanism of steel base is very complicated in nature. Therefore, a special attention must be placed in design and construction of steel base. In generally, the bearing strength test and research of the steel base subjected to concentrated load are carried out. But, in the design of the structures, uniaxial eccentric load is loaded to the steel base of the steel structures. In this research, the bearing strength and the me of failure considering eccentric loads and eccentric length, were experimented when eccentric load is loaded to the steel base of steel structures. Based on the test results, a basic design reference is suggested for a reasonable design of steel structures, steel reinforced concrete structures and composite structures.

  • 최근 제체 설치수심의 대수심화로 인해 직립 케이슨제의 건설이 주를 이루고 있으며, 외곽시설의 경우 평면배치에 의하여 곡면부 구간이 형성된다. 이와 같은 구간에서는 파랑 증폭이 발생할 수 있다. 특히 우각부 구간에서의 파랑증폭에 의한 월파량 산정은 기존 직각으로 입사하는 조건에 대한 월파량 산정 방법과는 다른 해석이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 직립제 우각부에 대한 월파량 분포를 검토 및 분석하고자 한다. 그림 1과 같이 우각부의 각도를 $10^{\circ}{\sim}30^{\circ}$로 제작했으며, 각각 발생시킨 파랑의 주기는 1.18초, 1.38초, 1.57초, 1.77초, 1.98초, 파고는 7.5cm, 10cm, 12.5cm이다. 또한 그림 2와 같이 각 월파가 일어나는 직립제 모형의 여유고를 7.5cm, 10cm, 12.5cm, 15cm를 적용하였다. 우각부 구간에서 월파의 공간적인 분포를 수리모형 실험을 통하여 검토하였다. 월파의 공간적인 분포를 검토하기 위하여 월파량 영향계수( )를 도입하였다. 우각부가 없는 직각으로 입사하는 조건의 월파량 실험을 통해 그 월파량의 값이 영향계수의 $r_x=1.0$이며, 우각부 중심을 기준으로 구조물을 따라서 공간적인 월파량 영향계수를 산정하였다.

A Study on the Structural Behavior of Eccentrically Loaded Steel Column Base Plates (편심 축하중을 받는 강구조 주각부의 거동에 관한 연구)

  • The behavior of eccentrically loaded steel column base plates is investigated experimentally and analytically. A total of 8 test specimens are fabricated and tested. The effects of eccentricity and thickness of baseplate on the behavior of base plates are investigated. Analytical study is performed using the Finite Element Analysis Program ANSYS 8.1 to investigate distribution of bearing pressure. The results from to the distribution of bending strain of the base plate. However, the distribution of the bearing pressure obtained from the analysis is different from that assumed in the current design method. The results from the analysis show that the bearing pressures of the baseplate are concentrated under the compressively stressed column flange, as the eccentricity is increased. Also the results from the analysis are different from the results of design using the existing design method and the design method according to the AISC-Steel Design Guide.

  • 해양플랜트의 관심의 증가로 사업의 수요가 많아지고 플랜트 사업이 활발해지고 있다. 플로팅구조물의 상부구조물과 하부구조물간의 발생 할 수 있는 집중응력으로 인한 구조적인 문제를 제기하며, 이 문제를 해결할 수 있는 효율적인 전이보시스템을 제안한다. 전이보시스템이 주각부에 발생하는 집중하중을 분산시키는 효과가 있는지 유한요소 프로그램인 ABAQUS를 통해 구조해석을 수행한다.
